Well the price have increased pretty well for the 205 GTI. Anyway, even by the time it was filmed it was pretty hard to find a 205 GTI for that price in France, Germany, Belgium or the Netherlands. Or if you could get one for this price, its condition was close to be fit for scrapyard.
I paid £1700 for a track prepped 205 GTI 2 months ago. No MOT since 2013 but it had a 2.0 swap. For the money it took to make it decent enough for the road I might as well have spent £3800 on buying one already road worthy.
Ive got a great 2.0 gti6 engine and box and loom and all the bits and bobs in my garage.removed from my own 306 which started to rot.anybody wana give me 2250 quid for it im all ears.😂

My daily driver is a peugeot 405 GLX 1.6, 1994, 58,000 on the clock. It's the sort of gentle slow saloon version of these 205 buzzbombs!
I had a J Reg 405 GL that could take a mini roundabout 180 degrees without breaking sweat.
The entire 205 range were perfection, even the diesels.
Hmmm, the UK "Rallye" was a dog to be fair - mainly because of what you got from the same name in France :/

Power to weight ratio is all what counts. You can have 250 bhp, if your car is 2 tons, a 205 GTI will overtake you anytime.
