I have a Peugeot 205 XS in a beautiful Red color. The Car was the first car who my father has driven and for me this car is more than a object. It’s a part of my past and I never will sell him. Beautiful Video Chris PS: Sorry for my bad English 😅
Had one of these in the 90s. Bear in mind I'm coming up to nearly 50, & had many cars since, this is the best drivers car I've ever owned! Had cars with more BHP, had cars with better grip, but as an all-round package this is the best car I've ever owned. Memories of belting over the Snake Pass between Sheffield & Manchester with the biggest smile on my face! Regret everyday selling that car. Thanks for sharing & the nostalgia you lucky sod! 👍🏻
Merci pour cette vidéo. J'ai également une 205 xs. Elle à 200000 kms au compteur et j'en suis fou. Ton témoignage sur cette voiture pourrait être le miens en tout point ! Je me suis complètement reconnu dans ton discours
I have never been so eager to subscribe to a channel as with this one. You really have a lot of talent telling stories both speaking and visually. Great shots and editing! As someone who owns a bog standard 88 205 which will receive an xs engine very shortly this really motivates me to keep going with the project!
Thank you for this video, you are very lucky 👌 My wife owned an XS many years ago and she loved it. I’ve owned three GTi’s, a 1.6 and two 1.9’s. I still own a low mileage Miami 1.9 GTi today and it’s awesome.... the 205 is brilliant still.
Love this. I like you am so tired of GTI this GTI that. There are loads of them everywhere. All hammered. Cars like yours are really special. (I've got a 1995 Mardi Gras). The XS, XT and Rolland Garos are probably my favourites.
Thanks for that, really put a smile on my face.. Owned one of these mid 90's.. Black.. Most fun car I've ever owned.. couldn't agree more with your sentiments.. Treasure it!!
Thanks an amazing video and somehow very emotional. I have always been in love with the 205 but I can't explain why. When they where common place I would always try a park next to one in a carpark, just to admire it. Sounds crazy doesn't it! You drive it with real gusto just as it was designed to be .
Thanks in part to your videos ( they stirred something inside me) I am now the proud owner of a 205. It's a red 1.1 mardi gras in fantastic condition, and it drives beautifully. Thanks again for your videos.
I remember this being for sale on FB in Brighton 5 years ago for £1200, I very nearly went down to view it, glad to see it when to a enthusiast, it's a awesome little car!
Woah, small world! It must be that very same car! As I mention in the video, it's not perfect (I mean it's 31 years old now), but it's such an honest low mileage example. I didn't actually get it with a mindset to keeping it forever, but I can't see how I can ever part with it now...
My fave car ever. It was the light weight aluminium block engine and short ratio gearbox that made it so much fun. Second gear was just glorious. Mine was also an '89 (F31 SRY), black, lowered, 1.6 Gti wheels and cammed up to 105bhp. Such an easy engine to work on and just loved to rev. Oh the nostalgia. Goose bumps at the end. Thanks for making this !
Just subbed. Almost bought an XS for my first car but it was sold so got Nova SR instead. Replaced that with a 1.9GTi which I still have 24 years later. All 205s are great and they still look amazing. I’d love to try the Euro spec Rallye and obviously the T16 but your XS is a cracking little car.
I owned an H reg 205XS from new - great car. You are right it lived in the shadow of the GTI but some motoring journalists at the time did rate it as handling even better than the GTI.
What a great video. I have a 205 XS that I’m fixing up at the moment. Cant wait to get it back on the road. This video has made me even more eager. Unfortunately I’m having issues with getting a spark at the moment. I’ve just ordered a full new ignition system as it’s been sat for a few years. Hopefully will get it springing into life 🙏🏼
I had a 205xs of the same vintage in white. It was a marvellous communicative car and a hoot to drive. To this day it is the only car I have ever owned I would have back in a heartbeat.
Awesome video, absolutely love this car. I had a Citroen ax gt which had the same engine as this and it was joy to drive, wish I still had it. Love the channel keep up the good work 👍
+20 years of daily drive 205 GTi here , pretty much 205 addict :) I've 3 GTi's , driven and worked on a lot of them during the years . You have to try Euro Rallye 1.3 TU24 it's mega fun car !!
God how I enjoyed my XS. Still my favourite car - the car that gave me most smiles and the happiest memories. Chris Harris once told me that the XS was one of his favourite cars too. Maybe he was just being polite, but the look on his face told me that he knew exactly what I was talking about, that he'd been there too.
My first car was a silver XS followed by a dark grey XT. My older brother had a red XS followed by a 1.9 GTI. When you started the car at 55” brought back so many great memories. The 205 handled so well and if I’m not mistaken the 1.4 had a twin Weber carb. Currently scouring the web to see if I can find any for sale. Great video. 👍
My first car was an 86 grey 205 XS. £450 from the garage down the road in 2001. I loved it. I can still smell it.

Great content, at 3:00 its so beatiful! I like you videos, style of them, and your XS and its story. Story of my 205 is interesting too, its 1.1 Winner, pretty rare edition made only for one year, with original rallye interior and few extra bits, it was owned by 77 year old guy, i bought it just for weekend fun but im so much in love with it i started to dailying it. I spend all my money to fix it by myself so its in top form, buti really think about swaping for 1.4 engine in future (whats your opinion on that?) :) 205 is my life style, i love how it stands out from all bland cars on the streets.. Its such a different experience that im addicted to it. I dont want younger car anymore! Keep filming your XS, its a beauty!
Thoroughly enjoyed the vide and thanks for sharing. Well put together and it brought out your love and passion for the car. I've just let go my Peugeot 206 because with the 1124cc engine it was under powered and I'm on the lookout for a 1.4 with aircon. At age 66 I need my creature comforts but there's still an 18 year old inside. Thanks once again
Everything you tell in this vidéo is true. It was my first car 20 years ago… I have now a 1.9 GTI and the specialist who make everything on shew me an XS this week with 75 000 kms for sale ! The same than mine… From France ;)
I know, right! It still astounds me today how good a relatively tiny little 4 pot can sound, and to think this wasn't a top sporting (i.e Gti) model either!
Fantastic story Chris, great to see! Your honest love for this little bugger really shines through. Would love to get something like this next to the Coupé - hopefully some day. Keep up the good work mate!
Would love an XS one day but they’re so thin on the ground now. At least I’ve got the engine out of one in mine. Great film, you’ve gained a new subscriber 👍🏼
Thanks for the support, I'll have to think of another video to get the 205 out again for some more films. Seems that I'm not alone in my love for such honest, fun little cars!
I was brought up in a 2o5 GT (the 5-door XS) driven by my mom in the late 80s and early 90s and got myself a 2o5 Roland Garros Convertible with the TU3 75hp last year...it’s SUCH a blast even though you’re not that fast in reality. Heel and toe, the directness, the playful drive... My 2020 Polo GTI in contrast is VERY quick indeed but the least fun ever to actually drive. It lacks all of what the 205 has in character.
Great video. I loved my XS - easily my favourite car I've owned. I used to hate it when I'd see one someone had tried to make look like a GTI. I'm still a fan of steel wheels. I actually had one of the conversations you describe with a car salesman today - when I said I'd owned a 205. I got the 'Oh, a GTI?' 'No - an XS but it had the 1.4 alloy engine ...' etc etc. That clearly stays with you 🤣
I love the little steel wheels too! It's pretty much guaranteed that every single time I mention the 205, people assume I mean the GTI, or say "oh right, I used to have a GTI." Thanks for watching.
@@OvertakeFilms I still feel like people don't believe me when I say I didn't want a GTI 😁. I would love another XS though - unfortunately whenever I've looked around for one there are either none or people ask silly money. Great to see you enjoying yours though.
Oh, I miss my four wheeled hero of my early twenties. It was infamous in the neighbourhood nicknamed the red flash as I took tight corners on three wheels. Does your car also feature the manual lever sunroof? Such a genuine and pure car in a time when driving was just fun & freedom.
My first decent car was a red G reg 205 XS, exactly the same as the one in this video. I replaced it with a 205 1.6 GTi which I hoped would be the same, but better but I much preferred the little XS. As you say, the XS was such a pure car to drive and the GTi lost a lot of what made the XS so brilliant.
Great video, my dad had an XS when i was a kid, i was so bummed that he sold the car because he got a company car at the time. Recently i have been looking for one....but they are so hard to find!
Thanks! They are getting thin on the ground now, like so many of these types of cars. The top stuff seems to be kept, but the lesser models just disappear!
i own a a late model 205 (maybe from the 90's) with a SPI conversion done and i love the car, but its sadly a ''field car'' or ''race car'' and is not registered, after seeing this video, i even more want a other one for my first street car and but sadly the 205 has become expensive in finland (the 1.1's are going for well past 1000€) but then i was thinking of how simular in handling is the 309? and now im debating between the peugeot and having fun mostly on my own (and if the friends keep up with their bald tyres, they are also welcome) or getting something rwd and going drifting with friends.
Back in the day I had the 1.9 gti and a friend of the time, the xs. Strangely his xs was at least as much fun to drive. It was lighter but quick too, not to mention with slightly understated cool as was the requirement of some. There was also the gt which I think was an xs in other clothes.
Hi there great to see another one on the 205 XS. Giving me motivation to restore mine that's exactly like yours but not in such great condition. 😂😂 Will need to post a video on mine!! 👌👍😁
the 205 xs is totaly underrated a few weeks ago my friends were realy shocked because they werent able to catch me with a E-golf war realy funny for me
@@OvertakeFilms in germany there are many ppl who also like the smal 205 models with 60 hp. My 205 is now 30 and war running 320.000 km i stil love it!
the bad thing about it, I look at the overburden camera, see the xs from my brother that he gave me ..... and I feel the emotions.... I love peugeot.. ^okay i´m driving an chriysler neon..
Loved the video, brought back happy memories of my 205GT (the 5 door version) brought it in 2000 with 35000 on the clock and sold 10 years and 120k later. Still regret selling it and none of then ten cars I’ve had since including a 911 have been as much pure fun. Never let me down and even when It spent two years sitting at 5k constantly on a 500 mile round trip each weekend. Enjoy your car and don’t ever forget the sensations as you won’t find anything like it again unfortunately
Wow, amazing story to not only have one, but to run one for 10 years! They do sit high in the revs on a motorway so good to hear it was more than up for the challenge. The challenge as ever, is that cars like this just all of a sudden disappear from the marketplace and you can't find any for sale. Thanks for your support, it means a lot!
my dream car a peugoet 205 xs, i've been looking everyday since i was 17, im 19 now and have not seen any for sale near by to me ! i check loads of websites everyday. hopefully one day i will get one :)
If your in the UK I'd suggest joining the 205 owners club on FB as I've seen a couple pop up for sale over the last couple of years. There aren't many left though, that's for sure! Good luck with your search!
Guarantee Your little XS is a lot cleaner and runs better that most of the GTI's up for sale. Great car ive got the 4 door of this the GT but great cars and I don't think I will ever part with mine.
I've got an 205 Green with 1.4 litre and 75 HP with four doors. It goes rather fast. Unfortunately it has no RPM-meter like yours. Mine is a 1990 model.
Great film! Subscriber now. Its not THAT more special than most hatches of the 80's I remember. The GTI seats were good. I really liked the Fiat Uno too, the Turbo of course but also the warm-hatch 1500cc Uno 75SX with its tan corduroy seats and digital instruments. Grunty, great engine (Fiat did have the edge over Peugeot here) and very low weight
Thanks for the sub! I used to know a guy that had an Uno Turbo, that was a great fun car, spent quite a bit tuning it up too! Can't remember the last time I saw an Uno on the road of any kind, they've all disappeared sadly.
now buy a 106 s1 rallye with the 1.3 screamer which I would say is the successor to this car :) Don't feel like you have to justify when you say you drive an XS those in the know know they're brilliant i've owned 3 205's a 1.1 as my first car a gti as my 3rd car and a 1.1 base again up until a few months back if I have the means again i'd definitely go tu engined car prob a Roland Garros which is an XS but in abit more plush form.
I hope u realize you can rev this car well into the red just like the ax GT . If you ever seen the rev counter in the car which has the same engine doesn't start til 68000 rpm . I don't know why Peugeot did this .
The engine is not far off a rallye .u need to rev it to about 6.500 at least to get the best out of it . Go look at a Citroen ax GT rev counter the tiny little one red don't start till almost 7,000 rpm dude.
Thanks to your channel I was looking for a 205 XS. Instead I settled on a very low mileage Suzuki Swift 1.3 GS, a car much in the same spirit but with better highway gears. Also a very fun car. My dad has an 205 XE Accent that he bought new in 1989 and still daily drives today. He also has a 205 CTI 1.9, and I’m restoring a 106 GTI :D

@@OvertakeFilms in germany there are many ppl who also like the smal 205 models with 60 hp. My 205 is now 30 and war running 320.000 km i stil love it!
Beautiful Video...
Looking for one at the moment but the prices! High.
Nice car, nice video... I’m watching in Turkey.
Wow nice, thanks for watching!
the bad thing about it, I look at the overburden camera, see the xs from my brother that he gave me ..... and I feel the emotions....
Just bought a 205 Roland garos same car basically
Nice! Certainly is, but you've got some leather if my memory serves! Enjoy!
@@OvertakeFilms yes nippy little car love the musty smell and petrol smell takes me back to early 90’s when I had my gti
my dream car a peugoet 205 xs, i've been looking everyday since i was 17, im 19 now and have not seen any for sale near by to me ! i check loads of websites everyday. hopefully one day i will get one :)
If your in the UK I'd suggest joining the 205 owners club on FB as I've seen a couple pop up for sale over the last couple of years. There aren't many left though, that's for sure! Good luck with your search!
@@OvertakeFilms yes im from the UK :) i'll join that right now! anything to give me a chance at one !
Brilliant video.. Subbed
Awesome, thank you!
Soo cute!
Guarantee Your little XS is a lot cleaner and runs better that most of the GTI's up for sale.
Great car ive got the 4 door of this the GT but great cars and I don't think I will ever part with mine.
I don't think I could either, it's so humble, yet so enjoyable - the essence of motoring! Glad to find another enthusiast.
I've got an 205 Green with 1.4 litre and 75 HP with four doors. It goes rather fast. Unfortunately it has no RPM-meter like yours. Mine is a 1990 model.
205's are such pure machines, they're all good fun!
Can't remember the last time I saw an Uno on the road of any kind, they've all disappeared sadly.
now buy a 106 s1 rallye with the 1.3 screamer which I would say is the successor to this car :)
Don't feel like you have to justify when you say you drive an XS those in the know know they're brilliant i've owned 3 205's a 1.1 as my first car a gti as my 3rd car and a 1.1 base again up until a few months back if I have the means again i'd definitely go tu engined car prob a Roland Garros which is an XS but in abit more plush form.
I'd love to try an 106 S1 Rallye, had an S2 for a brief period which was great fun, a long time ago now though!
I hope u realize you can rev this car well into the red just like the ax GT . If you ever seen the rev counter in the car which has the same engine doesn't start til 68000 rpm . I don't know why Peugeot did this .
anyone else desperately need this in their livess????? i know i do
The engine is not far off a rallye .u need to rev it to about 6.500 at least to get the best out of it . Go look at a Citroen ax GT rev counter the tiny little one red don't start till almost 7,000 rpm dude.
Ahh amazing. I have been in an AX GT but that was a few years ago now! Thanks.
أحسن سياراة في العالم أحب هاد سياراة لأكن لآ استظيع الحصول عليها قبحا الله الفقر
i sold my xs 2 years ago to my neighbour for £450 very bad move .
Nice, plenty of love for fun small cars then! Where did all the 106 Gti's go!? There used to be loads on the roads!!
