Great review! Point well made on the connectors. I just got mine and all I can say is you're not going to find a quad out there with this many features at this price level. The quality appears to be fantastic as you pointed out. Its flight characteristics are amazing and the added benefit is it's suited for indoor and outdoor flying. I freaking love mine! And yep swapped to a xt30. I fly it on 2s and let other people try fpv with it on 1s. Its been smashed, trashed and bashed. Still going! Best tuned out of the box BNF I have tried.
Love my TinyHawk2.. I did upgrade the battery cable to thicker wire and solid pin connector. Only thing that broke is the receiver antenna which i replaced. I still fly it around my house even though i have a 2" whoop. though my betafpv literadio broke so fast so i have to bind it back to the emax transmitter..
I fly 2S outside but I am probably killing those batteries. I let it go down to 5v if i know it will bounce back. I am just assuming battery not actually dropping
With a ph2.0 solid pins and higher awg wire the tinyhawk s works night and day better than the rolled pin. I don't get any sag what so ever. I would recommend that over the xt30 just because of battery / charger selection.

I've been planning to buy the Freestyle, but now am a little unsure seeing this has an improved camera and VTX.
Hope they bring a freestyle 2 with better cam and vtx. Really love the freestyle with run cam nano 2
I love the idea that this is upside down. My EZ Pilot is right side up and the props keep flying off. Especially after they've been on and off the motors a few times. Or after a few batteries the motor shaft gets pretty warm which allows the props to fly off easier. At least with this design when you go from 0 to 100% throttle, the props try to seat themselves instead of flying off.

that "rocket" appearance is called a sharkfin, and it's used to help the quad flip over after a crash (or turtle mode) by increasing the angle of a flipped quad
The frame out lasted the board on mine. Several crashes on mine. Very few hard crashes. Plenty of grass stains on the frame. Now it flies for about 30 seconds, then RX Loss and falls out of the sky. Unplug the battery for a minute and I can get another 15 to 20 seconds of flight before it does it again. It connected to Betaflight just fine at first. Now it's hit or miss as to whether or not it will connect to Betaflight. R.I.P. Tinyhawk 2. 7-10-2020 - 8-14-2020.

Would you recommend this or the Tinyhawk Freestyle for a smaller, safer, more portable freestyle quad? I'm looking for something to have alongside my 5in. Thanks!
The TH2 can do 1s indoors, Bob talks about the drawbacks of the 2s performance, but has improved camera and vtx so has decent exploration range. Freestyle is pretty ideal for yard flying- needs the camera and vtx to start to be a fun park flyer.
In the description of your 3rd TinyHawk S installment, you recommended the red JST connectors over XT30. However, they have never been seen, used or mentioned on video.
Do you still recommend those red JST connectors, or is XT30 better option?
That one is still good. The xt30 is just more widespread. So less work on your part. For 1s on this whoop, the bt2 connector would be best
bought the RTF version(never flew a drone before or any decent hobby craft) it takes abuse the vtx antenna broke over all the crashes i had to add more solder it would cut out every time i hit the throttle the ground was exposed and getting interference
What if u putt the racer 2 connector on it and fly 2s with two ones ?
They need to come up with 2.5 in the same reversed style ( maybe a hybrid carbon and poly ) so we can run it up the walls on our Dutch spec leagues.
The Tinyhawk freestyle is actually pretty excellent IMO. Not what I'd build myself however.
How do feel the signal 'range' outside compares to the 'original' TH?

Thanks for the video. My TH II is still in the mail and looking forward to it. You mentioned a possible camera upgrade with the RunCam Nano 3 Camera. Will the Nano 3 fit the TH II or will you need to modify it?

it'll fit in there but there's no direct and easy way to mount it. you'd have to figure that part out.
Because the props are such a pain to remove I’d say the mobula 6 or the beebrain BL is the way to go... love the pushing aspect though....
There's a technique that makes removing the props pretty easy. Turn the quad upside down, get a small hex driver. Push against the prop shaft with the hex driver while applying opposite pressure of the prop with your fingers. The props pop off pretty easily that way. I had to learn that after scooting from under a couch and fouling the prop shafts with hear balls!

They could use already the BT2.0 connector and Runcam V3 nano ;/ Also where new Tattu batteries on the way with BT2.0..
Small cell tattu packs are no good in my experience. BetaFPV packs are no good either

I know your not into brushed Whoops but do you think the BT2.0 would improve flight time/performance on a brushed indoor Whoop?
When I received my Tiny Hawk 2 I immediately did the Xt30 conversion and you were right👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The BT2 is like an intermediate connector. I do think it has a place and that place is 1S on medium sized whoops. The 75mm ones. If you have whoops with the solid pin PH2, I don't think it's worth the effort to upgrade. But if it's a rolled pin PH2 it's definitely worth it.
Are you gonna test the armattan tadpole at some point? It does look pretty neat imo but weighs almost twice as much as your TS3 frame - since I didn't get around myself to build a toothpick style quad i can't really judge how much of an impact that could make on flight performance
pretty significant impact but more importantly, the weight distribution on it is spread out far more than I would recommend. Of course I haven't tried it so I don't know for sure but I'm also not really planning on trying it either since I've built many things like it for testing.
I also find in 2s the motors get a little hot. Def stick to 1s but 2s its fun once in a while for a quick rip lol
I'm hoping I can put the Tinyhawk 2 board in my Tinyhawk Freestyle, for the VTX upgrade. I guess beyond the soldering, I'd just have to change the board orientation and input the Freestyle PIDs and other settings in Betaflight. Does anyone have any advice on that?

I just bought the TinyHawkS and the battery connector of the THFreeStyle to mod it and use 2x1S as a single 2S
Primarily because that connector doesn't have hollow pins and still let me use the quad with a single 1S
My only concern is that the weight of the double 1S pack will be too much for it
ya no worries....at all. If that frame breaks, swap to this one. Double pack is no weight issue for it but I really don't recommended on 2S. Feels like a flying rock

Could you expand more upon changing the battery connection on the drone? I'm looking to get into FPV flight and the tiny hawk range is piquing my interest. I cant settle on the 1, S or 2 though, i've seen it mentioned that it is worth changing the battery connection on the S as well, especially for 2s usage.
Changing to the connection you have used, can you still just buy 1s batteries off the shelf and away you go? Or will each pack need to be de-soldered to remove the stock connection and then resoldered for the improved one? Same with charging, are there charger options to suit the 1/2s with different connections?
I'm familliar with soldering and hobbyist electronics, but not RC at all, so just curious how that works re: power delivery.

To charge these little batteries, all you do is plug them into the charging board. That's all. It doesn't take any effort. Larger chargers will charge batteries from 1s to 8s but they require you to just tell the charger what settings to use for charging. What the battery voltage is and how fast to charge.

You could lower the power output but really the best way to go is just to swap out the battery. Running a bigger batt on lower output will give you a little more flight time with a lot less performance

You would need to cut off the existing connector and solder on the xt30
The issue I see with them soldering the motors is you can't change the frame without desoldeirng them all.....

The reason why they solder the wires is if not the white connectors, that also sits in a emax tiny hawk s version and tiny hawkfreestyle also have the same aio board as this, the White connectors will melt together on 2s if not soldering, that happed on my tiny hawk s but with a 460 mah battery 2s, when i think about it🤔 u said 450 on 2s was the sweet spot u said on your 3 part episodes on the tiny hawk s. But that’s not recommended, stay with the small original batteries it’s will save u in the long run 1s 450n mah and 2s 300mah.
At least the lens have protection - and they listened to your advice about the xt30 witch you also mentioned in your 3.part episodes. And agree on 1s it’s much better and fly better. And the motorwires look a tiny hair thicker than the previous tiny hawk
I guess more losses in heat due to impedance with plastic connectors? Seems like weight saving as well.
If you want to run 2S, you need the capacity of the 450mah to sustain the amps. So that's the 'sweet' spot for 2S but I don't like it on 2S at all.

@@Kabab oh interesting, yea the og tinycock was a flashing screen over 50% of the time on fatshark dvr, got myself a powerplay its pretty nice, next upgrade is crsf and rapidfire for my 3 inch builds
Hi Can u test the runcam Split 3 micro please, because there is not a lot of test on it...
I tested it. It's still not very good. The HD footage just isn't worth the hassle imo. If you want it for a small 3" then sure it's great. But not so great.

So I’ve just set mine up, flying fine and set it up for acro. After a few laps I tried to do my first roll and then flip and both moved soooo insanely slow it just threw me to the ground. Any ideas how to fix this and make it as reactive as my 5”? Like yours is in the park here? Wasn’t sure it was PID tuning or something I didn’t set right
plug in the USB and change the rates in betaflight.

So you recommend 1s instead of 2s? I just got it. The battery I have is a 2s. I had to set motor_output_limit to 50 because it was too fast inside the house. I only have 1 battery right now. I'm wondering if I should buy 2s or 1s. Watching your 1s footage, looks like it's very smooth. I am not sure though if the performance of a 2s with motor_output_limit of 50 is the same as a real 1s. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!

I suddenly get really bad sag on my tinyhawk. I can fly 3 and a half a minute, and it sags down to 3v. The resting voltage is 3.7v. but this came out of nowhere. Any idea what causes this problem?
@kewbla probably... But it's just out of nowhere. I always set them at storage voltage. Yes, I do that even with these small 1s Lipo's

what connector is on there. If it's still the PH2 then swap that and you'll magically get more power and longer flight time. Otherwise, the battery may be shot.

the tinyhawk S does have a cap at at least the later ones... sadly mine got run over by a car today... needs a new board and a motor, frame could be reused, even the camera made it... we'll see what I end up doing as it's around $50 to fix... too many for not TOO much more.

why does my tinyhawk stop working when I land or lightly bump into anything lighty,,i have to replug the battery everyrime

Hey Kabab, the tinyhawk 2 comes with 8k 2k. If i switch it to 8k 8k i get some really bad video noise. What is your tune on this thing and do you have an idea why i have so much noise on 8k 8k?

I recently purchased the tinyhawk 2.I have not recieved it yet.my question is will the th 2 fly right out the box when I bind it to my tanaris qx7 and assign the channels accordingly ? I asume the firmware is already installed ? or do I need to ser it up in beta flight for it to fly?

Neither really. I want a better Vtx and a Nano 3 in there. Then I'll freely recommended. But my 'wants' are also unreasonable and I know that. So kinda up to you...
If you can get a good deal on the S go that route and put the nano 3 in. I fly mine every night playing hide and seek with my 2 year old and it's been through hell and the frame hasn't broken yet. You'll have a weight advantage over this one and with that comes better performance and longer flight times. The vtx isn't great but it's perfectly adequate for indoor flight which is the primary market for these.
I’m not sure if my vtx is at 200 or it just says it is in the goggles, i heard you have to unlock it before you can switch it, but i think i pressed the button, and i think i unlocked it but how do i know for sure?

PH2 with hollow pins. Rated to 1A and actual function is even lower than 1A due to the hollow pins. It's just the worst imaginable connector situation for this thing....but it's fine for 1S still. Not that much loss on just 1S.

Man are you still flying 200 mhz? i head tinyhawk 2 Freestyle burn the vtx using 200 mhz, do you know why it happens? it happens with tinyhawk 2 even?

Wait what? But the motors on the tinyhawk are up higher not at the same level. Other whoops have the motor down low with the battery. That makes other whoops' z-axis smaller. Am I missing something with that explanation?
The battery is the issue. You need the battery to be as close to the prop line as possible since it's a significant weight. Traditional whoops have the battery swinging way below the prop line
I can almost afford it, do you recommend it for this price and for kids/beginners? The drone i've bought before was the trashcan, but that thing has too much problems. Do you have to replace things very often? (I had to replace the crazybee from the trashcan, but i didn't, because if i did, I COULD ALMOST BUY A TINYHAWK FOR THAT PRICE) please answer it Kabab, it's a lot of money for me!
Everything breaks if you smash it hard enough but this thing is very robust. It's probably one of the very best options durability

I bought one of these and the camera got too hot during the first battery and caused a video blackout. I had to let it sit for 2 minutes and then it started working again until 1 min. into the second battery and then I had the same thing happen. I bought a new camera for it and had the same issue. Then I replaced the camera with the old tinyhawk s camera and it works great. Any help with this would be awesome. I never received a answer from emax.
What's happening is the vtx is failing. Not the camera
@@Kabab that is what I thought so I bought another board as well and the same thing happened. The runcam is getting so hot I can't touch it.
@@Kabab I took your advice and installed a TBS unify pro nano and it seems to be working better. I still need to get the motors soldered back on but it has not cut out yet. So It seems I had two separate boards with bad vtx's. Thank you for the help.
Speaking of the vtx I have the same issue on both the original TH and the THs no matter what goggle or module I use. The blinding white flashes. Hate it.

KababFPV me either. I’ve tried 3 goggles and 4 different receivers and all did it. Haven’t tried a clear view tho. But the old eachine vr007pro’s do it the fatshark attitude v4’s with stock rx do it and with a true-d as well. Even my newish hdo’s with a true d 3.8 do it as well. I donno. Weird tho.
@@archer4922 right. If you have a Clearview, rapidfire or TBS module it's all good. Anything else will flash
KababFPV gotcha. Been thinking of upgrading one of these days. Just not sure where to begin. When I bought my attitude v4’s a cpl years ago from a bud of mine it had a true-d in it. I just bought his hdo’s but he kept the clear view for his hdo 2’s. So I’ve been using the true d mainly. I need to look into rapid fire and the new tbs one. Their price is similar but have no clue on which one to get.
I’m sometimes getting an Axloss on this, anyone have suggestions?

This could be perfect for my 9yr old son 🤔 he wants an AcroBee but this may be a better fit.

My rates are the same for all my quads. 0.98, 0.64, 0. The PID's on this were whatever came by defaults. I'm usually running defaults.

Looks pretty decent but I had a ESC on 2 different tiny hawk s fcs go on me so I’m gonna pass. I kinda babied the second fc to. Maybe just bad luck, who knows.

I recently purchased the TH2. What's the best way, or if there's more than one way, to change the vtx power to 200? Default is 0. Range is 0-7. I tried typing in 7 via the CLI BetaFlight and I select 'save' and reconnect but the 'power' is still set to 0. Any ideas?
you should be able to do it from the OSD with the controller. no computer needed.

I like this model. I don't like the unique FC shape. If the FC breaks, you are stuck getting the same one, at a premium price compared to it's competition.
it's not that much more expensive if at all more but I totally understand.
