I mine a very unique semi precious Gemstone known as BC Ocean Picture Stone. Ocean Picture Stone is a blue Chalcedony / Listwanite mix that makes perfect, naturally occurring ocean scenes. This stone is only found in one place in the world. And I run a private quarry mining this stone. Time to open up the mine for the year!

I don't want to steal your claim, I just want to find the camera and walk around in a bigfoot costume in front of them playing a tuba.
Yes! That would be a Hoot!!
I'm so glad to have purchased a beautiful slab of ocean picture stone from you at a rock and gem show this spring 😮. Everyone who visits just loves looking at it, touching it and holding it up to the light. Nature is a beautiful artist 👍
Wonderful!
@@Danhurdit really is wonderful 👍👀
I think I know the perfect mother's day present! She'd love one of these.
Thankyou for making these videos 😊 mygrandfather once owned your claim (he was the one selling it on the side of the road) he would be absolutly amazed that your making his dream a reality ❤❤
Sweet story! Thanks for sharing!
This is dangerously close to " shut up and take my money ! " Lol .
Absolutely gorgeous stuff there .
That's what I was sitting here thinking too!
I o⁹([
17:08 looks like a stormy ocean scene! As an artist I love it. There is no better artist than mother nature.
I wish I was closer to you so I could attend the show! I’ll have to head to Arizona for the big gem and crystal show this year!
You have a good kid, Dan. All around beautiful family you've got. All of the gold and gems in the world couldn't compare to how rich you must feel when you stand on your front porch looking in.
Seconded!
Absolutely!
Family fun in the nature/ artistic realm of beauty. Fun !! Living off the land .... harvesting beauty and making awesome jewelry for us all to remind us of the heart of nature which we would surely wear in faith and glory and the awe and sunshine of nature in all of it's glory
This whole video BLUE me away!
So much fun watching you guys hunt for the ocean picture stone! It’s like treasure hunting.
That is so beautiful rocks. Great job on the finds
Dan, I wish I could be your helper for free just to learn and enjoy being outdoors. Looks so fun!!!
I sure found some nice pieces didn't I? 😂 Good lookin stuff Dan!
Nature is amazing who thought that hidden inside rocks was amazing natural art.
Your Ocean Picture Stone has me hooked. Fantastic!!!
Dan you really hit a jackpot on that claim for sure. And i love seeing you and your family all working as a team. I do the same when i get ro go out tio
I love the last one it looks like a storm out at sea
as much as I like watching the gold panning I LOVE the mineral hunting!
Great finds and interesting to see the darker blue now
HOOOLY Evan has grown! Man, growing up I heard that a lot from family about myself but experiencing it first hand over a good 5 ish years is something else.
Love the ocean picture stones too! Keep it up, Dan :)
What a great day for you and your family at your claim!
Beautiful rocks!
don't know why but I love that sound of the feather and wedge getting tighter
It’s like a little spring in the brain!
I love the almost musical note the wedges make as they're driven in.
That new darker blue is great! And a couple of those pieces had tide pools in them.
I just stumbled on your channel You are the most positive person I can remember ever seeing and it's a joy to watch your videos
i know its "Ocean" picture stone, but that big slab at 28:11 looks like a photograph of the grand canyon!!!
the walls of the canyon sloping down, the bright blue sky, and giant puffy white clouds
Dan is like the Bob Ross of lapidary. Outstanding
The chisels can be sharpened with a grinder, just keep it cool so it doesn't soften.
Also, Be very careful, it looks like you have a stone angel in your garden.
@26:22 that piece is freaking Gorgeous!!
Grit in the morning, Love it! Dan Hurd, he eats chalcedony for breakfast! Haha!
The last few minutes of this video with the rough cloud tops over the cut ocean picture stone are amazing!😳🙂
It’s a work of art in stone, nice one Dan!😉
I'm glad to see that you started being patient with the wedges, you'll get better results in the end. I've heard rocks crack after a couple of minutes on their own.
Hey Dan, All I can say is WOW...those oceans scenes are just gorgeous! Amazing stone!
That last piece dropped my jaw. Sooooo beautiful. Mother Nature sure is an awesome artist.
Hello from Detroit Michigan USA thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise and for taking us on your adventures through time and geology
Years ago I had a temporary job driving a belly dump from a quarry. Several times a I came up on quarry workers with a panning operation in between loading trucks...
I love the sounds the feather and wedges make
Old Disabled House Bound Dusty Rusty Rockhound here: I have a couple of pieces of jewelry from your ocean picture jasper! They are my favorites! Please keep it coming... because I want more!
OMG that last one with the clouds was SUPERB! nice work brother in the north
Me too! I would love to see Dan and his family at the Colorado gem & mineral expo/show! Selfies & of course to purchase!!!
Me too! I would love to see Dan and his family at the Colorado gem & mineral expo/show
That slab at the end reminded me of looking over the horizon in Moab, Utah. Great finds!
The beard we all knew and loved has returned!
That was fantastic, Dan. Can't wait to see more from Evan's seam.
with these ocean picture stones you should look into getting into stores around tourist beach destinations
Beautiful B.C.O.P.S! I love that feather-and-wedge music too! Looked like a great time with the fam as well!
Great job Evan! 👍🏻
That big rock that took all of the time to cut, has to the the best slab you have ever shown. Those cumulonimbus clouds are absolutely perfect! An amazingly beautiful stone! WOW!
Evan, you've become a grown man now since I last saw you. The last time I saw you was when I subscribed to your YT channel...
28:16 Definitely my favorite cut of this video.
that's Alien Invasion Picture Stone! Noice!
Ancient game of space invaders
Some of those look like scenes from the big sky of the grand canyon, New Mexico, or states like wyoming and montana
Oh my goodness. That is the most amazing material I have ever seen.
Just beautiful. Some of the pieces from Evan’s collection look like closeup images from the space station. 😍
Think that pendant @ 4:59 is the one you showed me in Courtenay. It is even more beautiful when seen in person.
28:27 VERY good Plan Dan!!! due diligence!!!
Wow, such gorgeous stone!🤍💙🤎
A portable diamond saw could help you cut some of the choice stones to break the way you want prior to your feather and wedges
That's awesome Dan thank you for sharing this six stars
Beautiful stuff Dan! Have fun this season and thanks taking us along with y'all.
24.01 That is a Rocky Mountain snowscape right there!! ❤.
Greetings from a new subscriber in Victoria 🇨🇦
I love the sound the feather and wedge makes!
Perfect Sunday evening wine down 🤘🏿
I appreciate how people post ideas and evryone respects all the thinking and weigh the pros and cons without being artogant pompous or angry. I worked in a university in pediatric genetics and the phd's were respectful like that. The even listened to the custodian on his ideas. Great minds work together!!!
Ocean Picture Stone really is the Perfect name for your stone Dan. Just Amazing!
I would love to go rock digging, but where I live in Texas is all sugar sand! It was beachfront property several millions of years ago. I've had a couple of geology courses many years ago in college, which taught me enough to give me the rock hound bug!
25:15 those dendrites would make perfect trees in a cab!

I had hoped to buy some of this, maybe someday, what a beautiful stone to be working with.
You guys are so Canadian with how you guys talk, its so funny. I love it
I'm from the Netherlands and to me they just sound American 😁. It all sounds the same to me 😂
@@helgavoorneveld1530 that's funny but that makes sense. Some of the things they say and the way they say them are very canadian. There said 'aye' a couple times, thats as canadian as it gets
Hey I’m in BC Canada and Dan sounds just like everyone else around here eh!😁
@@Sticks017 hahaha I didn't even notice! I've lived in Ireland for the last 22 years and they say aye a lot in different areas of the island and indeed every area has a different sounding aye 🤣🤣
@@devinangola3458 that sounds about right. Im Minnesotan which I feel like is one step away from talking like a Canadian but i know that Canadian speak very well. I actually work with a French Canadian lady and she doesn't talk like a Canadian at all
Ow wow, I so wished we could get this in the UK. It’s beautiful
Amazing cut stone Dan. Glad you, Dana and Evan had such a great time.
Time to buy Evin a dump truck start with a 4x4 six wheeler get him a triaxel dump truck as soon as he gets a Commercial Driver's License keep stocking up on Ocean Picture Stone get back in the truck Even !
The lightning scenes at 28:00 are incredible
Thanks Dan and Family beautiful stuff for sure!
Greetings from the BIG SKY.
I need the one with the white clouds edge of the stone. Omg it was amazing
Hey Dan have you tried using a gas powered masonry demo saw to remove the rock? You could saw along where you want it to break and then use the feather and wedges if the saw doesn’t break it. I think that would be a whole lot easier.
Cutting solid Chalcedony with that saw would take HUGE amounts of time. Yes it would get bigger pieces, but I would just have to break down those bigger pieces to cut anyhow..... Overall time to extract would go way up.
Good critical thinking!
I would love to come and help and learn sometime I’m planning a trip to Colorado next week
One of these days I'll get around to purchasing one from your site. So beautiful!
Luck? That magical, invisible force that picks winners and losers?
Sounds like a myth.
"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" Carl Sagan.
The irony is not lost on me.
You're an extremely blessed man to share a common interest with your significant other.
I had never seen this rock before you showed me, and I am extremely impressed with it.
23:02 I see you hammering and it reminds me of my youth, I use to be called lightning with a hammer….aka never hit same place twice..
Amazing episode sir! Beautiful stuff!!
That last piece was absolutely beautiful love the bc picture stone videos there my favorites thank you dan for showing the world rock hounding can be so much fun
With the popularity of this stuff, you might need to get some power equipment out there!
Nothing big mind you, I'm talking about the smallest stuff. There was a big buzz about the "cheapest Chinese mini excavator" a while back (actual alibaba power equipment), and it's basically a gas powered shovel, which is exactly what's needed. enough power to get bigger chunks in the truck all day, a bit more breakout power, and best of all, you could move way more overburden without breaking your back for days.
Also, you can just tarp it when you're not there
I love these pieces so much, my grandma used to make paintings before she passed and the rocks that you find look so similar, it brings back good memories. Thank you for all the mazing content you put out! It always brightens up my day :)
this is going to be another amazing video
7:29 All the stuff on the surface is like "free value" too .. no rock mining needed! ... Great find! :0)
That ocean picture stone is outstanding. I thought it was a picture. The one with the clouds omg. It’s the first time I’ve seen this type of rocks
That one that you said came off the big saw, at about 27:15, kinda looked like a panorama of the Grand Canyon to me. Beautiful!
Always the best Sir... always succses.. God Bless You 🇮🇩⚒️⛏️💎💗👍👍
I wonder how well a hand-held, gas powered masonry chop saw with a diamond blade would work to cut out nice, symmetric pieces? I have zero experience doing what Dan is doing, and I don’t know if Canada has some funky laws against it, but if the overburden gets raked away, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work
Beautiful! So happy for you. Thank you, Sir.
Some of those cuts look like they were painted by Bob Ross.
Also, happyto see the family tucking the pants into the socks to keep the ticks out. Nasty critters ticks are. We even have some ticks outeast that will make you allergic to red meat with 1 bite.
Great material Dan.
Absolutely beautiful I love your ocean picture stone great video keep up the good work. 👍
Those blue rocks at the end of this video look like the Ocean around Australia!
This makes me excited for july!!
We have our 41st annual gem and minaral show here in Ontario comming up, always a good time.
That is amazing Dan sure got some amazing stone that round!
You give me the word and I’ll fly out asap
I wish you had a spray bottle to show it off just as it comes out of the ground 😊
My brother, I'd be willing to come help take care of some of that overburden, and get to the awesomeness!
I know it'd never happen, but offer is out!?😊
Incredible, and absolutely beautiful, so nice seeing your family enjoying the hunt.
