I'm from Texas, born and raised in the desert of west Texas and currently living in the heat and humidity of North Texas (DFW Metroplex). In both places, I've established a familial and working policy of one 591.4ml/20oz bottle of Gatorade (or other electrolyte) for every two (500ml/16.9oz)water bottles. If, after two complete rounds of that and no one needs to use the bathroom, immediate shade/cooling break as one of the things people don't realize if that you can be drinking plenty of fluids, regularly, as you're working, but if you don't need to head to the bathroom at some point, you're dehydrating. Dizziness counts as overdoing it😮. Stay safe. I so enjoy watching you (and getting Christmas presents from y'all's shop), but I'd rather y'all be safe, sound, and healthy.
Old Disabled House Bound Dusty Rusty Rockhound here: I now have several jewelry pieces of BC picture stone. I lived 40 years on the Washington coast... I've been away for 10 years now. I miss it so much! Wearing this stone gives me a vision of what my life was like back then... makes me feel a little closer to the coast that I so loved! Thank you for turning me on to this special stone... it helps to heal my soul! ⛵️
I wear a Petoskey stone around my neck from lake michigan that a local jewelry maker was selling. The stone was from lake Huron. I have a beautiful perfect Petoskey my son and his beautiful wife found me in my pocket that I want set in silver for a ring. I love my state and wear the stone pendant every day. I'm a total rock hound and have been since I could pick them up and stuff them in my pockets lol
@Emeraldwitch30 I was a pebble pup as a tot also. When I would tell my husband, "I want a rock for our anniversary!" He knew I meant a trip to the rockshop, not the jeweler! Lol! My dad was into lapidary... so I'm a chip off the old rock! 🪨

Dear D & D, I so enjoyed this video. The stones are magnificent. It was lovely to see you working as a couple, you seem to work well together. I loved hearing the stone “ring” it was quite incredible. I had never heard of picture stone until I watched your videos. It’s so beautiful. 😊. Dan, I have done a lot of stone work,, mostly limestone (fairly soft and easy to direct flaw) I would recommend,, your hammer is too heavy. How hard you strike is more a product of the mass or strength of person, and/or the length of the handle, than the weight of the hammer. A too heavy hammer just saps your strength, gains you no additional. I would suggest you try a 2.5 pound for your wedges and chisel,, 3 pounds tops. A 2 pounder would work fine but might be a little light,, or the classic,, and it IS classic for reasons. A 3 pound hand jack,, the short stout handle. It is what a jack hammer(powered) is named after. My bet is a shorter handle, and or lighter hammer/longer handle, somewhere in there, is the right hammer for you or Dana. Get all the work done,, and much easier on you.
I agree. I will add that rhythm of the hammering also comes in the equation. This site reminds me of a quarry in Scotland in the approach to loch Assynt with a magnificent contact metamorphic dolomite.

You have indeed earned my subscription, and keep earning again with every video! Love watching your enthusiasm for the outdoors and everything rock related! Thank you Dan and Family!
You will get bigger cracks forming doing ONE tap per wedge EVERY time and sometimes even leaving some time for pressure to release and form the crack. Especially in brittle / fractured rock multiple hits in one spot over stress the rock locally and breaks off a bunch of small chunks. Also popping off chunks from a face is best done from multiple sides and depending on natural grain going in at an angle helps.
you always inspire me with your videos, and again i know nothing about these stones.... However, I did do some research, and it is amazing how it looks when you do your magic to the rocks.

BTW, I enjoy your videos. And, having seen the last 2minutes of this video, I've called Diogenes and told him where to find you!
19:47 famous Dan Hurd quotes, " I can hear the sound it's making" ❤😂
Does it usually get that hot where you are? I didn't think it got that hot.
These ocean picture stones look amazing!!!!!
Nice specimens. I wonder if some of your stuff is in my local rock shop. Bryson's in Ogden Utah.
Beautiful stuff Dan !
Wow. I didn't even think it ever hit 100 fahrenheit in Canada. I'm used to it in the States, but I hate it every year. Don't blame you for calling it a day. Nobody likes heat like that.
this is going to be another great video, from Red beard
Dan - you need to try Texas :) 100 F is the start of the day with massive humidity.
