    That has a lot of detail for a small model. You did a fantastic job to restore it, to it's previous glory. My old dad used to do a lot of miniature stuff. He made a simple tool out of a cocktail stick (toothpick) with a ball of bee's wax on the end. He used that for picking up jewels and small parts to put them into position. You might find it better than tweezers.

    • @martindaredare
      @martindaredare  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds like a plan jester, I have a wax placement pencil for photo etch ,but it's not great for the jewelled head light .
      Better find me some bees 😃.

    I had no idea that there were different Take Off jack mechanisms! I had a look at the Mini Marcos (though I have not finished it), but I wonder why they were not all the same? Too many decals: I'd have given up on that frustration! And an incredibly random sticker displacement. I thought I'd sent you a full set of the Hunter Minilites: I'll have a rake around and see if there are any more in the parts bin. Really nice job: I'd be delighted with that result!
    I drove Hunters, Minxes, Sceptres, Alpines, Rapiers and Vogues from time to time - great gearbox: crisp, for its day. And the Rapier H120 could give a hot Capri a run for its money!

    • @martindaredare
      @martindaredare  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Fraser, yeah there was a lot of stickers, I was running out of room.
      There was a full set of minilites but unfortunately they were to smaller diameter and looked wrong 😕
      I remember those days were you could buy the old classics for next to nothing ideal for going to work and back blanket over the engine on frosty nights 🌙.
      Thanks for watching and I will see you next week.

    Beautiful restoration as always Martin, a bit fiddly and a recipe for a bit of bad language I’d say 😉😁 also a lot of decals and stickers to put on which you did with absolute ease, can’t say it would happen like that for me if I ever get to do one of these lol!
    Anyway great job, you turned this model from a rough old toy back into a thing of real beauty, I always liked these Hillman Hunters when I was younger and to think they were everywhere on the roads, now you’d be lucky to see one at all!!
    Take care, all the best, Nick.

      Sorry small correction; the black plastic thing is a roll bar or part of a roll cage (an anti-roll bar is a suspension component). Sorry to be a pedant.
      I am glad that it was not me trying to re-assemble all the components - its next rally might have been the 'Tour through the shed window'.

    Hi Martin, great job you do there. I am on process of doing a similar restoration. I have a scrap corgi mustang that happens to have the same lights that the hillman got ( tiny diamonds).
    Mustang lights are definitively donors but they are somehow pressed inside the lamp hole, with no access. I was wondering how to get them out without damaging it. Not sure if you have done it before. Looking for an advice. Regards.

    • @martindaredare
      @martindaredare  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tricky one this , you can get them out it's not always successful though.
      You get a sharp pointed knife and clear around it and then try a prize it out some come out easy some dont ,if it starts to crumble stop .and see if you can drill a hole in the body work from behind the lights , and then push out from behind.
      Some jewels are in a separate little cup.
      You can buy replacement jewels or you can get plastic sticky back ones in long strips from art shops .
      It's a bit hot and miss but unfortunately it's a pain .
      Best of luck with it ,let me know how you get on .
      Best wishes martin
