    I've got this one. I sprayed it with dark blue car paint in the 1980s.Its not the colour I liked, but dark blue was in the garage, and I used it!

    Repainted overenthusiastically ;) I did such a thing to a siku merc 230SL in my childhood, still have it...i think this will be my first project. Your restoration turned out very nice, got the same plated competition version and the yellow/red unsprung version with realistic ground clearance.

    A casting that size needs a tablespoon full of caustic soda in one go, to initiate the reaction. It is both heat, and chemical action that removes the paint. 'Matchbox Garage' uses this stuff all the time, with great results. His container of choice for this is the jar some foot-long hotdogs came in. It's obviously heatproof, and being tall, the chance of spitting chemicals escaping are considerably lessened.
    And the finished result? What a beauty!

    Looks great. I think the silver paint is more realistic than plating it.

    Very nicely done. I like the corgi mode of the 300SL as much as I like the Tomica model.

    Love this one. Went for the natural look with mine. Blinged it up with solvol autosol & some of that buffing soap. For protection, just gaveit a coat of clear lacquer. that sadly seemed to dull the shine abit. Did try a can of spray on chrome from plastikote. Nae bad

    it's odd to think that when I was a child I thought I was the only one re painting toy cars with my mates , since the internet i'm discovering it was a worldwide activity ......if it wasn't for the internet i'd have sworn if i'd found a painted toy car that it was one of mine from my childhood

      I painted mine as well, but masked off the glass and wheels beforehand. Once made a Corgi VW into "Hebie the Love Bug" that way.

      I agree i keep forgetting my bad i use automotive paints, craft paints and sometimes water based modeling paint basically what ever is to hand or i can get locally. I live in a rural location so i do not want to always be ordering stuff from the internet as it gets expensive.

    Nice job. I look forward to your next restoration.
    Just as a matter of interest are you aware that you can use Detol disinfectant to remove paint from the plastic screen and interior of your restos without and damage? It usually takes 24 hours totally imerged.

    • @diecastrescue3597
      @diecastrescue3597  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes someone else suggested this a while back i have a bottle poised for action but the next few videos will not be needing it yet!

  • @donbrynelsen2157

    Would a shot of clearcoat over the polished metal keep it from tarnishing? Also, have you ever considered doing one of your restos in Spectraflame like the early Hot Wheels?

    • @diecastrescue3597
      @diecastrescue3597  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spectraflame is on my todo list But i am operating on a budget hence my elcetic use of paints :)

    @pimpmydiecastsdiecastandto3176 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    the heat melted the screen , done it myself ,,,,,, if you come across the same problem again throw the complete car in a neat tub od Dettol , no heat or nasty chemicals so strip paint with no issues to plastics
