- Diecast Restoration Dinky Toys vauxhall 101 and Dinky Toys caravan,,I thought I would do 2 this week because yhay look good together the caravan I added some extra details inside to brighten up the interior because it had a clear roof .

The colour of that caravan is spot on for the period. Vauxhall 101's were big cars but seriously underpowered in their day.
Thanks Kevin yes your right ,but it had the kerb weight and good brakes to slow the van down and stop it ,when it needed to going up a hill would be a different thing all together 😂,

nice and shiny again. :) nice blue on the Vauxhall. and interesting method to create window chrome trim, indeed. :) haven't seen that before. that car does remind me of the Opel Rekord-A. do you think those two were related?

Thanks Lothar, yes vauxhall and opal were the same ,the opal manta and the vauxhall gte were the same .the build quality of the opal was better then the vauxhall iam afraid to say .

Hi Rob, sadly, I haven't the facility to do my own decals ,I get them from eBay, and there are some tutorials on y tube about decal printing if that's of interest to you .

I found drilling the posts out on these caravans is the biggest PITA. Some of them have a paper 'carpet' glued to the floor, I guess it got ripped out. Can't think of any other Dinky's that have that paper chrome on the window either. Love the colours on the Caravan and the interior is awesome, that little plant is stunning.
Thanks very much Peter,yep those posts are a bit tricky that's for sure ,your definitely right about the carpet it had been removed, I enjoyed doing this one putting the extra details inside, mainly because of the clear roof panel. The flowers are fiddly to make .

Thanks nick, yeah the 101 colour I had a look on Google images and blue in different shades seemed popular so I went with that .the caravan inside was an idea I have had for a while ,and I had some bits and bobs left over from some small room models that I have been doing ,so I used those parts .
Glad you liked it ,I see your one on the back of a trailer, my very first car was the model before the 101 more rounded and full of rust holes .

I was a bit busy last week and I'm trying to catch up with watching videos now. This restoration is absolutely brilliant, the caravan interior looks absolutely superb, and the 101 is a favourite of mine because my dad bought a brand new 101 Deluxe in 1966. I think even now in 2024 the 101 is still a good looking car. Hope your wife continues to make a full recovery. Very best wishes to you both. Peter.

Hi Martin what a lovely job that interior on the van looks fantastic especially the seat cushions. It's amazing this Vauxhall witch is made by England's cousin of the Australian Holden both GM company's looks a lot in the front and doors like a Holden HR witch I think came out in 67 it came with a high completion six cylinder 186 engine. Blooming hot here 🥵been in the 40s all week my poor plants in the front garden despite being watered every night are shrivelling up. I'm hopping they will revive when it cools down next week. And today the blooming fridge blew up and we are busy researching new fridges that fit in the space in the cupboards where it go's. GRRRRR 😣 I suppose I shouldn't complain we bought it new in 1991 and haven't had any problems with it in all that time. The fridge bloke recons he can't get the parts. 😭Oh well you look after that lovely woman of yours and I hope you have a wonderful trip in the van stay safe keep well over the left hand side and I'll catch you on the next one. 👍🏻And remember you never get lost towing a caravan there's always some bugger behind you telling you where to go.😂😂

Getting it moving isn't the problem stopping it is the biggest problem that's why thay brought out rules for towing, and stabilisation gadgets, to stop it from snaking,

Point of interest Vauxhall named the vehicle the 101 because it had 101 improvements from the previous model, just thought you may like to know 👍

Oh great , I have the Vauxhall 101 to do but I want to do in two tone blue as mine was years ago . Another lovely job Martin and I'm glad you took that stuff off the windows , looks much better .
Cheers Glyn, I did look at a 2 tone but decided against it because in this case it would have clashed with the van ,that silver around the windows just didn't look right in my opinion.

Hello martin 🙂 do you know any diecast models of a hillman avenger? My dad had one in the early 80s when i was young, i even remember the number plate from it. it was a light blue colour, would love to get a replica for him 🙂

Your best bet would be to look up the corgi vanguard range or atlas range ,both have a good model selection.

Better than of late,Martin.Were those Vauxhalls powerful enough to tow caravan's in real life?
FC 101 Vauxhalls 1600 cc. 70 HP.
I would say just about ,it's not so much the pulling of a van it's about stopping the thing ,if it's to heavy it would burn the car brakes out when going down hill or slowing down ,this is one of the reasons thay brought out safety guide lines for towing caravans and trailers .
Once again you have made a very good video.
Do you think you could please do a video of how to fix the cars when you make a mistake and how you put them right.
And where you get the parts like tyres and decals.
