  • Today’s video is what I promised in the last video, I’m cleaning up and re-commissioning the old indicator stalk. In the last instalment, I replaced this unit for an entire new one, but the quality of that new part isn’t where I’d like it to be, so I’ve decided to clean up the factory installed one and re-install it into #projectc1.
    As you’ll see in the video, the copper track that the contactor swipes against to tell the indicator circuit which direction you want to indicate is covered in burnt grease and carbon deposits. These needs cleaning off and re-assembling to put it back into action again. I used a handful of basic hand tools including two screw drivers and a pick plus some scotch brite and electrical contact cleaner to achieve this.

    Think you’ll find your main beam control won’t work. The small white plastic bit that popped out needs to ride over the little white stud sticking up it then flicks the plastic sled back and forth to operate the main beam contacts. Don’t ask me how I know 😃😃

      Absolutely correct as I put it back wrong and the main beam was permanently on. Lol! All ok now.. Thanks

    not completely free though, but definitely worth a shot instead of throwing in twenty for a used 1.

    Surprisingly serviceable nothing like the one on my ford fiesta which was impossible. I noticed you didn't put any grease back in,. I think it's just the years of moisture that build up and cause it to go green

      I didn’t re-grease it because I intend to get myself one of those liquid copper pens for PCB track repairs to see if it helps out any. More of an experiment than anything really.

    What sort of grease is suitable to apply on to contacts after cleaning them? Is silicon grease suitable?

    will disconecting the air bag cause a warning light to come up on the dash?

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the battery was disconnected. Everything gets reassembled and plugged back in as normal before the battery gets reconnected.

      Only if you turn the ignition on - so best to disconnect battery.

    did this to mine and its working. but mine had a problem with the Left indicater in the dashboard not working. and it is still not. any fix for that?

      That’ll be one of the surface mounted diodes on the dash that’ll have failed. You need to strip the clocks down, de-solder the failed SMD, solder in a new one and re-assemble the clocks, they’re a common failure point. I have a video on the channel where I do exactly that, but to change the back lighting colour. It’s the exact same principle.

      No, I’m not a commercial business and I’m not insured. You’d be better off replacing it with an after market part of you’re struggling to clean yours up.
