  • In this video, I tackle a common problem that people have with these little city bugs, indicator stalk not working. I have chosen to affect a repair by replacement for now because this has been a cause of Project C1 failing its MOT. While I’ve got the steering wheel off, I thought I’d take the opportunity to install a new wash/wipe stalk from a Toyota Auris too. This is a direct plug and play mod to a city bug and allows you to vary the interval for intermittent wiping of the front window. One of those modern convenient touches that these bugs don’t have from the factory.
Tools you’ll need are a pick of some description, spanners for removing battery terminals, 10mm socket, ratchet, extension bar, cross head screw driver and some patients… I was running low on that last bit!
In the future, I’ll take the old indicator stalk apart and clean it up. I’ll make sure it works and then keep it in storage in case I or another bug owner need it.
Remember, if you want to know how to fix the hazard light switch, see ‪@StupidBlokeStupidVideos‬ for more.

Just to point out at 9:00 the clip they have given u has actually got a clamp onit forcing it in the open position so if you dont have the tools you can easily put it onto your new assembly. Its actually the exact same clip with just a tap at the top that u slide off lol.

Can I ask what paint you used for the panels? And if so, did you use a primer with it? I'm planning to paint the lower half of the door panels all the way to the back to the rear to improve the aesthetics of my Pug, but I'm still deciding on what paint to use.

Do you mean the red paint in the trim panels or the black paint on the A pillar panels?

    • @Gourmondise

@@DABDIY black on the A pillars. I'm planning to do something similar.

I got that from a local car paint supplier, it’s just a generic satin black. Reduced by 10% with thinners and hardener.

Hi dave i seen that you have painted the heater control switches i would like to ask how did they come of please as you did not do them in your vid Painting the C1's interior plastic trim or is there a guide thanks.

I did those off camera. It’s a little fiddly, but if you remove the radio and facia, there’s a cable that is clipped onto the controls and it’s spring loaded. Use a flat blade screw driver and push the clip down, while sliding the cable off. The rotary control then slips out of the housing.

Is this wiper stalk on any other Toyota model besides the Auris ?

I couldn’t tell you, I just know that the Auris one works.

Maybe Toyota Yaris 2013 they look very similar

Did you buy a genuine indicator stalk or aftermarket one?

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

After market. The build quality isn’t as per OEM and it did need one of the copper contacts bending a little, but it works just fine.
My particular favorite part is actually the other stalk. It’s from a Toyota Auris and gives intermittent front wiper speed control.

That was my thought too. That said, I do less than 1000 miles a year in mine, so it really doesn’t get much use!
