This is a test of the brand new, much anticipated head by Iron Will Outfitters: the Iron Will "WIDE."
It is the big brother of the Original Iron Will, measuring 1 3/8" x 3/4", 125 grains. Check it out. - กีฬา

I appreciate you suggesting Ironwill. Some broadhead manufacturers actually told me they couldn't offer any advice because they didn't know anything about crossbows. I didn't quite understand that. With all due respect I was simply looking for an effective payload and I believe you set me straight with good advice. Thanks!!

Oh my gosh, as soon as you said "cape buffalo" I lost my breath for a bit! Aside from a DIY bowhunt for a bull moose, cape buffalo is the pinnacle of my bowhunting bucket list! Wishing you the best of luck from here in Indiana! Keep up the phenomenal research and videos!

Texas BowHunter Thank you. Yeah when I tested the milk jugs with the same head I got times that varied to as different as 3 x the time. The same happened with the water bag when it backed up to the Rhinehart. When I removed it from the Rhinehart so it hung freely and then didn’t allow the vanes or FOBs to penetrate it, it got way more consistent.

Great review as always. For the bag test I think it is really important you hit at the same height for all shots to give a more accurate comparison of draining times.

Great test Mr Lusk! I just got 3 s125 broadheads and they fly better than fieldpoints. That’s no exaggeration. I’m thinking of waiting for a solid version of the wide as I don’t want a vented broadhead making too much noise for a wiry eastern whitetail to move on shot.
Donovan Stockton They experimented with a solid Wide but would have had to make it .050” thick to make weight. They didn’t want to compromise the strength. I would have zero concern about flight noise on any whitetail shot. There are so many leaves falling and birds and bugs flying by, the sound of an arrow in flight is no where near as important as the sound of the shot itself.

Great job Lusk Archery for provided great detail on the Iron will Wide broadheads. I'm in the process of looking for a better broadhead than the 100gr muzzy trocar hybrid. I love the hybrid however I have noticed the expandable blades bend during impact on the animal. I'm mostly hunting whitetail in New England and my shots are less than 50 yards. In most cases 30 yards or less. I'm caught between iron will wide or the exodus. Can you provide input on your recommendation between the two or and alternative?

Thanks brother. Man, those are both excellent heads. You can't go wrong with either one. But if you can afford them, I'd go with the Wide...or even the Wide Solid with the extra weight and durability. If that price is not practical, the Exodus or Tooth of the Arrow XL Solid (now made in 100 gr & 125 gr) are both fantastic heads.
Just wondering what types of footers or inserts you run.. Or do you have any favorites. You do a great job and very informative. I think Im getting ready to order some Iron Wills for whitetails in Michigan.
I am using the Bishop FOC King arrows, and they come with a footer at both ends. But before I shot them, I used Easton Hexx arrows with a 75 gr brass insert. I glued an aluminum shaft cut to 5-7" over the end of the arrow. For a .330 shaft, a 2013 or 2014 fits perfectly. That makes those arrows extremely durable. I really like the Iron Will Wide! They make a shock collar type thing that is very good from what I hear.
Great Video, appreciate all these BH tests. Did you find them similar in the amount of noise they make in flight?
Tom Witbeck I found them similar but in talking with the designer, the Wides actually was quieter in flight when measured with high tech equipment

What a great video! However, if you keep both of these broadheads on your quiver, wouldn’t they fly different from one another? Wouldn’t you have to set your bow differently or each one?
They flew the same for me--as long as they're the same weight. Even 25 gr differences fly basically the same out to 40 yds.
Great work . Test that new Jekyl and HYDE broad-head by Evolution Outdoors. One head that can be changed from fixed to mechanical using same ferrel

very good info. Any consideration for doing a noise test, say 60 & 80 yards downrange with microphone/recorder 4'-6' from target?
my distance shots in that range, find the coues bucks ducking or flinching just as the arrow approaches. Hunt partner was filming and we noticed in viewing later this late movement by bucks at those distances.
so bucks were not flinching at bow noise upon release, perhaps due to distance range.
Thus we think it might be arrow noise combined with which type broadhead.
I've done that a bit in the past, but I just don't care about arrow flight noise.
Love your videos, have you had a chance to test the Steelforce American muscle head?

How well do these heads handle angled shots? Also how would you compare the penetration of these vs grizztrick 2? Appreciate you making these videos helps save me money testing them 👍
Thanks Mitchell. These do extremely well on angled shots and penetrate better than the GT2.
Hey John can you bring back the water back leak rate test on your new videos? That really shows the linear cutting difference between heads.
Thanks for the comment. I explained why I dropped it in a few of my vids. I tested many heads and even used every type of container/heavy plastic bag I could think of--but they are just NOT consistent enough to gauge anything by. Regardless of the container, when I shot the same head thru it multiple times, I got VERY different results.

Great review. Thank you. Could you do a comparison of the 125g Wide against a 125g s125? I'm interested in the noise comparison and flight characteristics. Based on what you've experienced so far, is there a noticeable difference in noise between the wide and the standard vented model?
Mike In The World No there’s not much of a noticeable difference. But the designer tested them with really good sound equipment and found the wide is actually quieter than the original.

Thanks Larry. If your bow is really well tuned, then you just screw it on and you're good to go. With my bow I can do that with just about any fixed head. But the key is getting your bow well tuned, like with bare shafts, and having consistent form. Thanks for watching and commenting. Much appreciated.

Do you do any distance shot testing with the IW Wide vs the original IW and notice any difference in POI? The Wide looks like it should fly pretty well.
Derrick Cunningham The Original is one of the very best flying fixed heads made. The Wide is good, but not as good as that. Same POI out to 50 or 60 yds. But after that the Wide can get a bit touchy.

What would you recommend for Midwest woodland whitetail hunting? I am pretty certain about Iron Will as my choice but am trying to decide between the solid, vented, and the wide sub-variants.
For whitetail, I would definitely recommend the Wide. It still penetrates very well, but you will get a much bigger hole.

Great video John. So is this the set-up you are looking at for Cape Buffalo? Are you hunting them out of blind with your bow? I like those broadheads. Put those up against Grizzley Stixs.

John, would you suggest the wide for an elk hunt where your avg shot is under 50yrds or still shoot the original?
Tyler Biggs Both are great choices but I’d go with the Wide for sure. It still penetrates super well and will make a really good hole!

I've tested both the Vented & the Solid in their original design, but not with the Wides. Though, you can check out the scores of each and compare them that way too.
Which IW would you suggest for wild pig? I hunt elk or deer once per year but wild pig a bunch throughout the rest of the year.

Thanks Bernard. I love the Exodus. In the "normal" price range I consider it one of the very best; actually one of the best in any price range. I already went to Africa, you can check out those vids here on my channel. I took a Cape Buffalo with a Bishop Scientific Method and a Zebra and Blesbok with a Sevr 1.5. They all performed very well. I used to use the Helix. Great heads. But there are other single bevels that are much more durable, like the Bishop Scientific Method and the Cutthroat.

I have the 125 grain and the 150 grain wide And they whistle so loud I won't use them. I did take some scotch tape and tape just over the hole And that seems to work great for the noise.
Yeah, but I don't worry about arrow flight noise at all. Bow noise is huge, cause animals can pinpoint it and trace it to you. But arrow flight noise is a non-issue. They can't place it cause it's moving. For all they know it's a bird or bug.

What draw weight do you shoot and I manly hunt whitetail deer and hogs shoot a 60lb matthews halon 32 sometimes have to shoot 60 to 70yrd which would you go for
bobby campbell I shoot a Bowtech SR6 at 72 lbs. This is a great head for hogs and deer; perfect for that.

I wouldn't use the Wide on shots over 60. Even 60 would kind of be pushing it. But I would use the Original for those longer shots and the Wide for shots under 50-60
Have you had any issues with animals ducking the arrow because of broadhead noise ?
That's a good question Colby--NEVER. I've had animals duck from bow noise, but I don't think they do from arrow noise. They can pinpoint static noise like a bow shot, but not moving sounds like an arrow, in my opinion. Could be a bug or a bird for all they know.

Ash Nindorf I should do that at some point. Just not typically a huge fan of over the top deploying mechs. They’re fantastic IF you get a pass through but if not, that opening hole is really small; smaller than any fixed blade head. So blood trails can be a challenge in that case.

Got wide iron will today but only 125gr need weight up arrow once I find the sweet spot for my bow.

For a cross bow at that speed, I would go with the Original instead of the Wide. It flies much better.
