    Just switched to the Black Hornets and a heavier front loaded arrow this year. Can't wait for the season

      Same. I switched last year and had great results. Complete pass throughs on tough shots. Magnus Black Hornet serrazor 125 gr, 114gr insert, 17% FOC set up. Just like he says in the video, TUNE YOUR BOW! The fixed blades will fly like a field point.

    It's crazy how we hunt a few weeks out of the year and go to these levels of bs looking for right stuff. Natives used 30 pound wood bow with cat gut string and a stick with a rock tied to it to feed themselves for thousands of years

    I have been impressed with my Black Hornet heads. Fly superb out to 50. Pass thru has not been a problem. When I'm having a good day shooting I have cut vanes off at 40

    At a difference of 1.6 decibels, the Iron Will Wide is about 50% louder than the Magnus Black Hornet.

    Great video. There is another video online where the guy shoots a broadhead (can't remember type) and records it in two different scenarios. In one, he puts the camera at the target (40 yards). In the other, he puts the camera at 20 yards and shoots over it.
    When the camera is at 20 yards, you can hear the broadead/arrow pass by. However, when the arrow is at the target, you can't hear it. You just hear the arrow hit. Now, this is limited by my ears and the microphone. Also, at 20 yards you hear the arrow approach and leave (more time to hear). However, it makes me wonder if the air being directed to the side and behind doesn't also lead to the sound moving in that direction mostly also (as sound is just arrow vibration/disturbance). So, from the deer's perspective I wonder how much it matters.
    I suppose you could record as you shoot overhead and then look at the sound over time. You should see a "hump" as it passes over and might be able to get at all of this more.

    • @JoeMilesMWT
      @JoeMilesMWT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the issue is the the sound at the target....the arrow is going so fast that the target impact drowns out the arrow flight sound.....we are going to do a 100 yard shot this year with the decibel reader at 25 and 40 yards and directly under the arrow so we get a real sound reading with no shot noise and no impact noise to contend with....interesting stuff for sure

    The veins you are using may also increase sound. Test might be quieter depending on veins used.

      I have the V series IW and it is significantly louder than my black hornets.
      Also, IW customer service isn’t good at all in my opinion.

    • @JoeMilesMWT
      @JoeMilesMWT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      greg monera thanks for commenting....when you say it is louder than the black hornet can you dive in to that a little deeper....is this something you have tested or just something you notice when you are shooting them? What issues have you had with customer service? I love the BH as well great head...as you saw in our test the were just a slight bit quieter than the IW....I do like the IW wide for that wider cut

    • @ghanja568
      @ghanja568 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      joemileshunting when I tested the V series, I noticed my arrow noise right from when the arrow is shot from my bow. In comparison to other broadheads, I don’t seem to hear the arrow noise until it’s half way between me and the target. This is what prompted me to do some more testing.
      I tried different fletchings and slightly different length arrows (.75” difference). Both arrows are VAP ss (300). In my findings, I learned that my setup is the quietest using feathers, blazer and AAE Max vanes.
      Imagine a baseball field (I didn’t use an actual baseball field), my target is at home base. I’m shooting from second base (30 yards away). One person is standing at first and the other is at third base. I shot the V series, magnus black hornet and montec g5. Without knowing which broadhead I shot, both people picked the V series to be the loudest by a significant margin. I shot all three broadheads in different order each set. We did three sets.

    • @ghanja568
      @ghanja568 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      joemileshunting As for their customer service, I guess I was expecting some understanding from them considering these broadheads are expensive and they have a lifetime warranty (I consider the loud noise a defect). Additionally, I explained to them that I’m leaving this week for my hunting trip. So there is some time constraints.
      I ask if I could return and exchange the Vseries for the S series. They told me I could...just the ones that I have not used. Also, I’ll have to cover shipping (both ways).
      I was advised to order the S series and have it shipped over night (another $34 for shipping) to receive the broadheads by Friday or Saturday. Then return the unused V series after. I ordered the S series broadhead last Wednesday morning. Eight days later, I still haven’t received the S series.
      I was able to get Bill (the co-founder) on the phone last Monday (I’ve been trying to get a hold of their customer service since). He gave me the option of cancelling my order (S series) and returning the unused broadheads for a refund. Or, he would cover the overnight shipping and ship the S series on Monday.
      On Monday, I received a refund of $27 for shipping. I still had to pay regular shipping of $7.95.

    • @JoeMilesMWT
      @JoeMilesMWT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Riley Zayicek I did not test them out that far....they did great at 50.....one thing you have to be very careful with is making sure your arrows are out past the riser (don’t cut them too short) the WIDE will actually hit the riser if your arrow is too short but as long as you are out past all good

    • @Ri-zay52
      @Ri-zay52 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      joemileshunting that’s what I was concerned about. I shoot trypans and cut my arrows as short as possible. I like that wide head though in case I go hunt in Idaho. The accuracy seems like it wouldn’t be a big issue with how large the vents are in that broadhead compared to a solid design with a ton of surface area

    • @braydonsmedley5652
      @braydonsmedley5652 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will never get a fixed blade to shoot like a field point if you dont set your arrow up properly. Chances are if you are shooting expanding heads then your arrow is not set up for fixed heads so keep that in mind if you ever do go hunt in Idaho.
