- Join me, Andrew Penzi of Vital Point, for this review of Iron Will broadheads, which I bowhunted with all last hunting season. We will discuss solid vs vented, fixed vs expandable heads, and other broadhead selection topics. Are they worth the money? ... Lets find out...

They ARE worth the price. Absolutely the sharpest head out of the box. I was aware of this and still got a small cut taking it out of the box. Great steel. 👍👍
Yes, I’ve been shooting the same few heads over and over again without any issues. It’s a little tricky resharpening that tanto tip without changing the angle, but I still love em.
Do you HAVE to buy the inserts also? Or will they fit inside a standard arrow without buying the extra stuff?

I use the swhacker broad heads. I shoot 68 pounds and my draw length is 31.5. I’ve always had pass throughs and have never been disappointed with performance. The first deer I shot with them was 15 yards away through both shoulder blades. Complete pass through. I always wanted to try fixed blades but I never have. Congratulations on this season. Great videos keep up the great work.
The owner of my local archery shop only shoots swhackers too. I haven’t had a chance to try them. You have a long draw, so that must help boost the kinetic energy. Thanks for the comment Jason!
I also shoot 100gr, 2" cut swhackers and I get pass throughs 99% of the time with a 70lb 28 inch draw bow. They work so well most deer run at the shot, then stop 25yds or so, look around like what just happened?then tip over, phenomenal performance! Iron wills look great, as well as tooth of the arrow and exodus.
Review is on "point"! I switched to the solid 125g heads and am super happy. I wouldn't say I get great blood trails but the deer don't go very far and they blast through shoulders pretty easily. Was thinking about getting a wide head for more blood but wanted to wait for reviews to come through before committing to them.
Ha! I was thinking of trying the new wide version, but heard they may bend easier (Ranch Fairy just did a video on that). Thus, I’ll likely stick with the solids for the dependability. Let me know if you switch. 👍🏻😜

I just got mine v200 and these things are wicked sharp, super strong . My head of choice from now on nothing compares
200s are serious! I considered trying the wide cut, but the solids are so sweet that I don’t think I’m going to switch. Hope you get good blood on those things this season.

Great video Those are nice. I’m still shooting Rage Shot 2 deer with them this past season and didn’t get a pass through on either one
I shot Rage for several years. They make a huge hole when you hit the sweet spot, but the big expandables get hung up too easily if they encounter any bone - for my current preference anyhow. Congrats on the two deer this past season!
I've been using the Montec. The ground out here in Iowa isn't so rocky like in PA so they don't get as dinged up in front.

QAD is a pretty durable/reliable head, and I still use them occasionally , but those IronWills! I’ve been using their 4blade single bevels lately, and they are sweet! …Just need to work some OT to afford them. .
I use Iron Will as well. I also use Grim reaper 150gr. 3 blade pro series for other situations. Use the "stay sharp guide" for the Iron Will heads, easy to get razor sharp!

Thank you. IronWill has a few new options now too. This past season I used their single bevel 4 blade and had great results. I’ll be at the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, and I’m looking forward to seeing the new products for ‘22.
Lol I was going to mention Dr. Ed Ashby, but then you said Ranch Fairy and I thought ah he’s knows about him already. I’ve been carrying NAP thunder heads for years, but I’ve never gotten a deer with them.

Absolutely , they are worth their weight in gold . Best fixed head on the market . That’s not being bias that’s a fact .
Andrew, enjoyed your video. Only thing I would have added would have been what your arrow specs are your using to push that broadhead. But overall, nice job. Good luck this season.
Scott Seward Thanks Scott. Last season I was using an Easton Axis 340 spine, total arrow weight about 465. This year I have 300s, with a 75 gr brass insert. Total arrow weight about 565. In both scenarios I have a 125s Ironwill head.

As I think on it, the price of Iron Wills heads is probably a wash compared to other heads for any avid hunter, as one is much less likely to lose a high quality fixed blade head. For example, I hit a doe in no-man's land this season with a Sevr 2.1 and did not get a full pass through. The arrow WAS sticking out her other side. She ran off with it and ended up living, but the arrow was gone. I'm certain that literally any fixed blade would have been stuck in the ground on her other side and I would have recovered it. The Iron will would also be more likely to be reusable than a low end or mid range fixed blade after a full pass through, so when one factors in increased loss and breakage with other heads, these might actually be cheaper in the long run. One arrow recovered that otherwise would not have been covers the cost of the head.
Very true. I’ve used the same head on multiple deer, and didn’t even need to re-sharpen it. I had one deflection and lost the whole arrow ... that hurts the wallet. Otherwise, these are still the best head out there in my opinion. They now also have a single bevel 4 blade Iron Will that looks awesome!
Andrew what accuracy are you seeing with these/what distances have you been consistently able to shoot out with them with "minute of deer" accuracy?" Definitely looking into this after just learning about the Ranch Fairey recently and becoming an adult with heavier arrows. :) Great video sir. Thank you.
I’m pretty accurate to about 40 yds. Beyond that it’s hard to tell because human error kicks in. Lusk Archery reviewed them as well and felt like they shot true to 80 yds. If your bow is in tune, there should be no issues. I wish they made the new wide cut in a non-vented version. I’ll likely try those this fall, and bumping my arrows up to about 525 gr. Making that switch back from mechanicals this year as well, strongly motivated by a Wyoming elk trip in Sep. I'm trying Valkyrie BE and Iron Will "S" 150gr. Tough call but I think the Iron Will have the "cool factor" in spades. Might give each a final exam on hogs
The Valkyries look cool, but I think they may be difficult to sharpen. Wyoming elk sounds awesome. Good luck!

Love your content Andrew! Especially your enthusiasm and excitement. Hey there are guys on TH-cam who have claimed to killing ten deer with one broadhead. I'm just trying to kill one. And for now I'm sticking with my Magnus Black Hornets, and then trying the AFFLICTORS I bought at the GAOS. Going to sell all my never used RAGE's and like you I'm into fixed or solid heads. Hey you have to hand it to the IRON WILL folks they know how to market, package and justify their price. Very slick product marketing.
I really liked the new fixed Afflictor heads I saw at the show. Is that what you bought? They are stout. The Magnus are good heads too. Hope you get some deer blood on those arrows this season Ron. Call me if you need help dragging out that monster!
I've been shooting the afflictor mechanicals the past 4 years and they do not hold up at all. They are completely mangled after going through a deer, if they even make it through. Which is a big reason why I'm switching to iron will this year

What grain you shooting, also how was the blood trails. I been looking at at the Iron Wills. Especially the 200 grain
125 gr Head last season. Total arrow weight was 475. I might do the same this year, plus a weighted collar. The first blood trail was thin, but followable. The pass through made all the difference. 2nd was a red carpet. I’ve hit many deer with large expandables... Large entrance wounds but minimal blood because there was no 2nd hole. I personally prefer having the pass through.
I should add that the first was a liver hit.
I always shot g5 deadmeats and liked them. Want to go heavier this year but the price on the iron wills was holding me back. Then again I never reshoot arrows or broadheads through deer. If I change that practice and sharpen the iron wills I might be breaking even compared to my G5 practices
Definitely worth the 💰. Super tough and super sharp.
If you wanna save some money and get a head with full lifetime warranty go with the Magnus ser razor. You won't be disappointed!! The design is similar and they're tough as nails.

I just went on the website and they look pretty sweet. Nice that they have a solid version with variable weights too. May be difficult to sharpen without their angled sharper though. Have you had any trouble with that? Thanks for the info Tom.
@@leafinitup1 i have Xl and the standard there easy to sharpen. Only sucky part is that they are carbon steal an will rust on you quick if not careful

I have been shooting RAMCATS since their conception. I've never had a problem with passthroughs. I'm thinking about going with Iron Will but I can't wrap my head around $200.00 for a quiver of arrows?
I hear you ... it hurts the wallet for sure. There are plenty of cheaper heads that will get the job done, particularly on a shot placed just behind the shoulder. These just give you some extra piece of mind that they are going to work no matter what they hit. Check out the new single bevel 4 blade. It’s vicious!
Love your attitude. If u want penetration get the Bishop Holy Trinity which is easier 2 sharpen with the 3 blades dragging across a flat diamond 800 & 100 stone. Then polish them with a little piece of saddle leather. Stick with the L140 steel version which is a 125 grain head. Take the stock insert out & put in an Ethics insert & u will have a killing machine like no other. U can even spine shoot deer very close with a pass through & they will never duck the arrow. The added weight makes your whole setup quieter. A deer @ 30 yards can duck your arrow which will never approach 1200 fps. So go quieter my friend, not faster. The Iron Wills r very nice, but I like something that has a more stout profile with less surface area that is easier 2 maintain. That is all I have 2 say about that. Good shooting.
Bishop makes an awesome head. I think you can’t go wrong with either. I just got a new sharpener gadget to bring them back to razors. Sounds like you have a sweet arrow set up. How many total grains are your arrows?
Do you have to buy the inserts? Or will the broadheads fit in a standard arrow without the inserts?
No insert needed. I shoot 5 mm eastern axis, and they worked great together.
Try out the Rockymountain Cutthroats. Single bevel and 3 blade. Very very nice heads.
They look pretty sweet, but this season I’m already set up with the four bleed single bevel iron Will 125S. Almost time to get some blood on them!

They were great solid, and sharp broadhead. But that doesn’t make them worth a ridiculous price, and they’re difficult to deal with when you go for a replacement through their warranty, it was multiple phone calls multiple emails and eventually all as I got was a blade. Magness on the other hand send you out an entire Broadhead one email and one photo. They are great

The only mass produced factory Broadhead you can get off the shelf that’s remotely worth it are the Magnus black hornet serazor and the stinger buzz cut. But the iron will is a step above for sure
There’s a $20 sharpening jig for these blades called staysharp. Look at ranch fairy videos for the stinger and black hornet, there’s a link below for the different sharpeners and he just uploaded a new video yesterday covering more sharpening. As well as the guys from hunting public also documenting their improved results with heavy arrows versus the skeet loads they used to be shooting. Why are we shooting deer with basically a target setup? The insustry is doing a disservice to hunters promoting this super light flappy wing broadhead nonsense

You have to have 2 blades or even a 3 blade single bevel like the Oz cut. 4 blades Will kill your rotation and 4 blades do kill your penetration the little tiny bleeder blades Are just a little extra cut. If you research exactly what a single bevel does on bone compared to a double bevel It's a world of difference literally a world of difference. I love my iron will wide cuts but they make so much noise because they are the vented version that I can't use them
Those tiny little bleeder blades add another 1.5” + of cutting surface! -That’s significant. I plan to try the wide cuts this fall, but I do wish they made them in a solid (non-vented) option. Thanks for the comment.

I shoot an Excalibur Assassin 420 TD , how is the flight and accuracy with this head , I don’t want to spend a lot of money to have them plane and corkscrew to the target , I want to use iron will for bear and moose deer
Accuracy is excellent, but it all depends on how your bow is tuned. If you paper tune, you should be fine
Momentum, not kinetic energy is the key to consistent pass thru.
Ok, I’m not a physicist, but heavier objects carry more momentum. I also know that a bullet will pass through a deer easier than an umbrella. Lol

Looking to purchase these blades what grain did you end up using
125 g works best for my set up, but figure out what total arrow weight you are going for and then size accordingly. They also make a 4 blade single bevel now, which is the only one of it’s kind that I know of, and it’s what I’m using this year (also in 125g solid). Good luck 👍🏻
… Ilike 125 grains because it still gives you lots of options if you ever wanted to swap out the broad-head for something else.

Very true. I would not recommend using these on groundhogs and squirrels! In this case, you get what you pay for. They have the only single bevel 4-blade broadhead that I’m aware of right now
These will shatter bone. I shoot 615 grains with these broadheads and have destroyed bone. Blade was hardly harmed.

Just way too expensive, at least here in Australia. For the price of one of these, I can buy 8 Slick Trick Viper Tricks.... my preferred head for some years now.
By the way, the math is as follows: Momentum of the arrow = mass of arrow x velocity of the arrow. The Kinetic Energy of the arrow = 0.5 x mass of arrow x velocity of arrow x velocity of arrow. Thus, in both equations the two key variables are the same...... mass of the arrow, (which of course remains the same, for anyone particular nock, shaft, vane, head combination) and it's velocity at the point of impact with the targeted animal. That said, in bow hunting Momentum is more relavent to killing power as we are concerned with achieving a pass through, wherein there is smallest loss of velocity, ( and therefore, in turn, smallest loss of momentum) we can achieve. As we all know, the pass through means the longest possible internal cut and therefore the greatest rate of internal bleeding and thus the quickest time to humane death. This is entirely the opposite with a bullet. In that case the aim is to have the bullet begin to deform upon impact and in doing so, transfer as much of the Momentum to the impact zone and thereby convert the Kinetic Energy into tissue trauma which brings the animal down. So endeth the lesson. Lol.
Thanks for all the info. They certainly are a bit tough on the wallet, but other than that they are pretty flawless. One of the other benefits is that they come in a wide variety of weights, so it makes it easy to add weight FOC.
BTW: I just tried Vegemite for the first time… How do Australians eat that stuff?!
@@leafinitup1There is a secret to enjoying Vegemite. Instead of extracting it from the jar with a conventional buttering knife, use a teaspoon. Once you've made sure the convex side of the spoon is evenly covered, hold the spoon convex side down over your slice of toast then....... and here comes the tricky part............ chuck the spoon in the kitchen tidy bin and then quicker than you can say "Bob's Your Uncle" ....your toast and Vegemite is fit for eating.
Uh,....$120 now days....... For a more reasonable priced double bevel thick sharpenable broadheads with excellent quality & warranty;
Magnus Black Hornet (regular or serrated) & the Stinger or Buzzcut(Serrated version). Razor sharp & a lifetime warranty replacement &/or sharpening. They are $49.00ish. Also, there are the Steel Force Phatheads (0.08 thick).
Yes, they will certainly all get the job done at a more reasonable cost. I used to shoot steel force many years ago. The IronWills do have higher quality steel though. I’ve used the same heads for three years now through multiple deer, and in the dirt, and they still look fantastic. Thanks for the feedback.

S this guy says he is not worried about them hearing well i hate break it to u buddy but the speed of sound is over 700 fps and your bow at the max if u were pulling 100 lbs might be 350 at the most…..!
You’re comparing apples and oranges. I hate to break it to you but the video was talking about sound that the broadhead (solid vs vented) makes through the air. It was Not talking about sound of the bow. I’ll agree with you that an animal will certainly hear a bow go off, but the sound that a broadhead makes is insignificant. By the time the animal hears the sound of the actual Broadhead, there will be an arrow through it’s heart

I’ve seen some of his material, but not necessarily on that subject. He has good info, and my total arrow weight is getting heavier each season. 😄.

Mechanical broadheads are for people that can't tune their bow , its as simple as that ... does anyone know what the difference is between the crossbow broadhead and the others... ? Cheers 🇦🇺🤙
I honestly don’t think there is a difference for fixed heads. I have heard that Mechanical crossbow heads are designed to release under greater pressure, to handle the force of crossbows. - Not 100% sure if that’s actually true.
