The beta Wiggler is missing a set of legs. The "sunglasses" on the Wiggler are most likely just the eyes untextured. Along with the "hat" being the flower and the mouth being texture too. Almost all the beta enemies seem to use a single set of polygons for the eyes to be textured on. The Swoop wings also just seem untextured version. The final version doesn't change much, with the only difference being the beta body originally being 3D instead of sprite. Beta Spindrift looks like it didn't need to be textured on the flower and leaves. Obviously the eyes again are suppose to, but I wonder if the mouth was originally suppose to look happy or the single polygon was enough to just fit the mouth texture.
Yeah I figured that regarding the Wiggler. Only reason I was unsure on Wiggler was cause I was getting mixed messages from some I was talking to regarding these.
Swoopers however are actually 2D wings into the final game. And what is argued was that it had 3D wings originally as seen in the picture I posted. Thanks for watching!
@@TheObsessiveGamerNah. That "3D" wing is just one polygon without texture. It is quite difficult to make a convincing wing with a single polygon.

It’s hard for me to believe that the giga leak was over three years ago. I remember having to wait for all the information that we have now to come out day by day. Even then, it’s still entertaining to see what was left behind in some of our favorite Nintendo video games.

Just for note, textures in the game still use polygons for them, so the bats wings might've been a rectangle because their texture is missing, same with the spindrift's mouth.

2:44 ah yeah I keep forgetting to make the video on that. The unused animation is for when Mario drops MIPS into a body of water, which is something I'm sure many curious kids tried in the early 2000's when doing the door clip glitch. I guess nobody realised back then that the animation is technically unused in game!
Good thing there are videos about that, but it'll help to spread this information to make more people curious, that's for sure. :)
What's interesting is that MIPS has a falling animation for when thrown too, and uses the get-up animation after landing on the floor. To this day I still think it's funny that this animation doesn't play when crouching or doing a ground pound while being airborne, so it's definitely an early for complete-looking animation. xD

Yeah, the falling and landing animation both play out when Mario drops Mips into a body of water. Mips sinks kinda slowly too

@@Wingcapman You're certainly right there! In fact there are some unused floating in water behaviours used for several objects. The only one I can remember off the top of my head is the *looks up name*, 'Crazed Box'. You know, the bouncy box you see in several levels.
I only know about these from my time messing around with Toad's Tool 64 back in the day but I'm sure there's other interactions in the game that I missed

1:19 Ironically, having it is appearently more resource intensive because dynamically switching them is worse for the N64 than simply having a few extra polys, so removing it is legitimately an optimization. They were thinking at least one console generation too far ahead I guess.

2:48 also, by clipping mips in the doors, you can get him in the room in which you ground pound two pillars. If you go in the water with mips in your arms and throw him while underwater, mips will do this animation upon touching the floor.

I noticed this in Mario’s unused model that has different shading. Luigi model has that same shading of Mario unused one.
So that means whenever Mario model was made that means that luigi was made somewhere at that time before he got cut

You missed some info. The 3d spheres were never planned to be used. They were specifically created so they could animate the model easier in Softimage 3D.
That egg could not be Yoshi, there is no evidence Yoshi was in the game besides being a debug object.
The only reference to Yoshi is a e_yossy in a file from Mid 1995. The final Yoshi was added extremely late in development.
That wiggler model was for when it was going to be a generic enemy, specifically in levels that use the Grass Object Group according to tag.cnf
Motos/Motosman had several variants, such as Ice Motos, Fire Motos, in addition to the normal one.
1)No evidence on the 3D spheres not being used. Only speculation
2) I got a video on Yoshi in Super Mario 64 that shows a direct interview of Miyamoto saying he was gonna be playable
3) The video is on beta models, not beta enemies to describe theirs roles
4) Can I see evidence on the Motos variants?
@@TheObsessiveGamer 3D spheres are named softsprite and are toggled with flags in model headers. Animation file leftovers (.anm) exist and they match SoftImage 3d.
Motos variants are mentioned in tagdecode.h and funlike.h
Yoshi was described as being part of an event (cutscene).

4:50 - 5:15 Those sunglasses, hats, grin, wings, etc are polygons without textures. That's how they look in the final game too, if they don't have textures.. textures that have opacity map that makes transparency for that texture/polygon, so outside of the round models, almost nothing has changed.
Super Mario 64 has a lot of stuff cutout. Did you know there was a Japanese Nintendo magazine where they have dioramas of SM64 stages from the game. Some people think the reason why Nintendo copyright it was because before they made the levels on PC they made diorama versions of them in real life to see if they can work in the game. I'd try to get that but not sure if Nintendo would get mad and try to sue over it so not sure. Also, hope we get the e3 2003 prototype for Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga soon. :)

Oh wow, Blarggs were planned at one point? That would've been so cool have especially in their original SMW design as opposed to their generic magma blob design from the Yoshi games.
Missed potential everywhere but they had to release the dang thing and it was so early in 3d tech that each new feature was very novel. They tried to correct course in the DS remake but it just ended up feeling crowbarred.

well i knew what low poly models were but i dint know those 3 were used for that reason. while the games graphics are still good in my eyes i think the controls aged really badly, when i try to make mario hang upside down and swing to each pole on the lava level he ends up going his own direction and landing in the lava, it made me furious because mario does what he wants not what i press. its why i say its dated controls.

Like, this is all cool, but there's so much you say that's just blatantly wrong. Do you comprehend what an untextured model is? Do you understand how volume works? Have you somehow played through the entirety of Mario World and never used a spring?
What makes this even weirder is, that Sonic Springs work very different then SMW Springs
SMW:
-Pressing nothing = small Jump
-Holding Jump = big Jump
Sonic:
-Yellow Spring = big Jump
-Red Spring = bigger Jump
