“Can we gossip at the end” is so real 🤣🤣
Her big smile after Madi said yes was so cute 🤣
She’s not in the asswhole. As a Nigerian our weddings are extravagant and we WANT the guests to come over the top. A white wedding is a European style wedding with a white dress. It’s just different cultures.
When I listened to the story I also couldn’t help think it’s racist simply due to the fact they treated the woman like a spectacle for embracing her nationality and culture.
white people weddings are so boring and overdone that when someone dresses out of the norm ESPECIALLY a POC WOMAN it’s so foreign to them they can’t help but stare and show how uncultured they are
It was ridiculous of them to expect her to know what they wanted when they knew she was from a different culture and wasn’t familiar. She even asked, and they left it vague. And THEY respond with racism?! Saying Africans have no manners?! Disgusting! Not much has changed since the 40’s.
I also can’t help but think the racism is SO deeply rooted they’re blind to it. Not only did they make her a spectacle by ogling over her they put her down when she was embracing her culture/identity. White people are so uncultured most of the time they can’t help but stare when they see something out of the norm.
But white wedding doesnt mean shit, like are all black people weddings are the same with the same rituals? im russian, but part of my family is super traditional so they kept to true traditions, not what most modern russian people do, so the bride wore red so are th4e guests, cuz red is our color. and we have our own rituals you do just for asking hand in marriage if its dont truly in a traditional way. i dont know anything about what german people do , never been to one, so really, what is a white wedding. my jewish side of the family they are white, but trust me that wedding was completely different than our russian one.
@rainbows5232 .... the point is she was unfamiliar with the customs. Asked for clarification/help. Received none. Was met with coldness, and the relevant info she asked for in advance, with a healthy dose of racism and lack of accountability.
"This isn't Afruca. People here have manners"😅😅😅😅😂😂😂
Meanwhile your dresscode was , "dress to impress" 😅😂😂😂😂😅😅😅
Hey comforters - It said she was Black African not African American.
BLURRING THE BARE FEET IS SO FUNNY 😂😂
NO FREE FEET
as a black african who mostly grew up in the U.S., our traditional weddings are VERY over the top and the garments we wear are very intricate. she didnt even wear a white dress so i think they were just jealous that she looked so good 🤷🏾♀
People need to come to Nigerian weddings. They are literally more extravagant than some fashion shows. The designs with lace alone will make your eyes pop out of your head 😂😂😂😂. Imagine being threatened because your guests look good 😅
As a south asian person in the US, story 1 is the reason why I’ll never wear traditional clothes unless it’s to a south asian event 😩
Aw, don't say that. Just know the people whose wedding you're going to. Most people would love to see that sort of thing. I think of it as a gesture from the heart, personally. 😊
Ugh, so true! I once, _in Africa_ by the way, attended a Westerner organized Pan African event in my basic traditional garb. Now, I should've known something was up when everyone else purposefully underdressed in their traditional clothes but I was still innocent and thought they didn't want to give the barest minimum. The comments, _the comments,_ the comments I got from the organizers were insane! 😫😫 I genuinely think most Westerners (West Europeans and North Americans) don't know exactly how "not like they're used to" different cultures are out here. I gave no effort and still they acted like it was too much.
Nah put that shit ON!!! 😤✨️
First story, I have an inkling OP IS AFRICAN and lives in America. In that case her outfit was probably even more extravagant than I think the story tells. Not her fault tho, if you outshine the bride it’s the brides fault
Agreed. If someone was wearing an eye-grabbing outfit at my wedding, (ethnically speaking, not something white or trashy, because that would be deliberately disrespectful) I actually would think it was cool that someone (who I don't even really know) respected my wedding enough to dress their absolute best and that it would add an extra interesting element to the party.
Seriously the bride's fault.
They said dress to impress.
Ain't nothin wrong with African clothing. It's bright, it's tailor made and therefore fitting, it's fancy. It's for weddings.
I'm biased because I'm African. Ain't no tsuch thing as "overdressed" here. 😅
Facts!
I believe she lives in Germany
She showed the dress she wore and it wasn't even that extravagant.
In response to the fake name story: I am a barista and serve somebody daily who gives me the name “Smith”. I know it’s not his first name (might be his surname) and it has never caused me any harm to use Smith when calling out his order. We have friendly conversation each time he comes in, so I think the girlfriend is overreacting 🥴
I do not get brides that get all bent out of shape about being "outshined". It is still your day. Why not be ecstatic that she pulled out all the stops to look good? I would be THRILLED to see something like that at my wedding!! As the bride, I'd want to know all about it and learn about what Nigerian weddings are. But I'm a big geek for learning about other cultures, so maybe I'm different. As a married woman, I just can't imagine NEEDING to be the absolute center of attention because you're a bride, though.
The recruiter story is example of “you can’t do wrong to a mf and tell them how mad to get”
The last story: why is the youngest upset with his dad for proposing to his girl when the dad is not the one who wanted the divorce? She has good kids. I think it was petty but I guess that was the point
The funny thing about reading the revenge stories is once they go “i coulda done this… but I decided not to” I’m like… well you already went that far, c’mon give us the content. 😂
Ooof. That woman who barred her husband from the bedroom needs to bar him from her life! He doesn't do housework? Or want to spend time with her? Left her in the rain? He does not care about her. He is using her for her money.
5:29 WE SAW THAT BRANDON!
Seriously that was the cutest thing ever. I love the way he looks at her while she’s speaking.
The first story is a perfect example of why anthropology matters
For the first story, I might be able to give some context as a European growing up in America for most of my life. Europeans love showing off, and especially that there was a race aspect to it plus the fact that she came from America, I think they told her that thinking she would not come dressing "as nice" as them because some Europeans see themselves better than the Americans, then were upset when she came there dressed nicely. They also might have preconceived notions about people of color being "ghetto" or whatever, thinking that she might not have a good sense of style, so they might have just invited all their coworkers just to show off. That's my take on it. I love my family and everything, but one thing I really hate about European culture is the fakeness of it all. Knowing she is in Germany really makes me believe that is what happened.
I’m an American who has lived and worked in Europe for about 8 years and I’d agree with most of this. Europeans find out you’re American and their treatment of you immediately becomes condescending. The one thing that has always shocked me though is how openly racist white Europeans tend to be, while simultaneously believing themselves to be much much more civilized and progressive than Americans. 😂 Not in the racism department, that’s for sure!
I have a lot of love for Europe and Europeans, but they are a lot less self-aware than they generally think they are, and it becomes apparent really fast that America’s attitude of white supremacy was definitely implanted here by European colonists. It’s not something that magically culminated on its own as a uniquely American phenomenon.
Shes African. Not African American
@@CharlieApplesyou do realise that Europe is not one country. Their are European countries that are more, or less racist than others.
@Unadostres8408 op is not american, shes black african, madi read it wrong
So I looked further into the outshining bride story and recognised she was Nigerian, Nigerian traditional wear is phenomenal coming from a fellow African myself from Angola/Congo. if you say dress to impress to a Nigerian they'll deliver plus EAT. We Africans don't mind because it's like a fashion show, even Nigerians offer material or fabric to help make your dress. the MOB and the co-workers were in the wrong for making racial insults and not wanting to talk about the misunderstanding
The story where the wife asked the husband to spend the day: I wonder if he’s cheating on her. He definitely doesn’t like her 😂
Also, can SJ just be a regular? She fits so perfectly with you guys ❤
Most germans dress quite plain. Their sense of style is often minimalistic at best, but usually just boring. OP wasnt even wearing white. Not her fault for having a better sense of style
Hate when a bride dresses basic, tells everyone to “dress to impress” the turns around to judge guests for their outfits? Make it make sense
Omg ive been missing yalls podcast and wondering when the next uplaod will be
Sobbing from happiness 😭💝
38:40 this is such an odd take for the gf to have especially if she’s a cis woman. Like if I wasn’t a barista at Starbucks for a while I think I would also give a fake name or primarily use the drive through. I don’t enjoy wearing name tags at work, if there’s a professional reason someone needs my name I’m more than happy to give it but the idea of random strangers knowing my name is just kinda icky. So I don’t think it’s necessarily accusatory of the people in the room I feel like it’s just self preservation that allows the person to feel more comfortable in their environment, as long as he’s confirming it’s his food and drink I don’t see how this harms anyone 🤷♀️
Also I got a lot of mobile orders with rude names and “Batman” “iron man” stuff like that but that’s less harmful than the perverted stuff.
I think the reason that OP was thinking she MIGHT be the asshole in the last story is because it IS a crappy thing to do to trash talk your ex to the children you share, no matter how true. But the kids are adults now, and the ex was stupid enough to write that down, so she had evidence of his crappy behavior. She is well within her rights to show it to whoever she wants. But it's making me think of my cousin in her divorce. Post-divorce, her ex became a "Disneyland Dad." Her youngest 2 sons still have a decent relationship with their dad because they were too young to really understand what was happening while the marriage was going downhill. But the oldest was old enough to witness and understand that his dad was gas-lighting, manipulating, disrespecting, even emotionally abusing his mom. So his relationship with his dad has been non-existent post-divorce. (She has since married again, and that stepdad is more of a dad to them than their real dad ever was.) Kids understand more than we think, so the fact that the now adult kids are deciding to take Mom's side now that Dad is "free" from his alimony/child support obligations tells me that they probably ALWAYS knew that their mom had made a lot more sacrifices for them DESPITE her serious health issues, while Dad thought it was sufficient to just send money. The snarky statement on the check was just the final push to be like, "Okay, you're done with your obligations as a parent, and we're done with our obligations to respect you as as your children."
I cant get over Sj's feet being blurred 😭😭
Maddie ..
That sock has had Kenough😂
☠️☠️💀
just cuz they were mentioned in this episode, were boycotting starbucks and mcdonalds until they stop supporting Israel! FREE PALESTINE!! 🍉❤🔥
🍉🍉
If you remember it when I call your drink, I don't care what name you give me lol
Not Celery making constant Cameos! 😂 I love it! Have me laughing at work!
6:56 - Maddie and the camera person had a full-on conversation through just a look!
Hey guys!!! Thank yall for making my day with yalls fun stories
I felt that fake name story bc idk how many times I have heard my name pronounced wrong it’s “Zion” say it the same way u say “Lion” just w a ”Z”
Wow how many people actually don't know how to say Zion. Never heard Bob Marley. It shocks me sometimes how little some people know.
If you outdo the bride, that’s the bride fault😭 she ain’t go hard enough. A btc could never outdo me at my shit cuz imma steppp.
I love that SJ has her feet blurred during this podcast 😂😂😂😂
Perfect timing😂 I’ll watch this whole thing during my lunch break
my chickfila has three drive thru lines going at once they NEED to take names
Great time ❤ love your perspectives.
37:43 Starbucks worker here: I wish EYE could give a fake name to customers
Loved the everybodys so creative reference 😂
Recorded in October and released in April is CRAZY
i have a somewhat uncommon name and i don’t hear it spoken very often so i’m taken aback when i do. one time the barista at starbucks remembered my name and drink order, and i was soooo embarrassed that i avoided that specific location for a few weeks lol. so then i made my name “toadstool” for rewards at a gas station to avoid the whole name thing, but i didn’t realize how strange it was because i was just so desperate to not be called by my name. not sure why i didn’t pick katie or something
Whoa! Here in the first 4 minutes of upload! 🤩
I think the recruiter story was ok. She made them lose a job they were happy with. She got away with everything.
Y’all have been in Colorado for 5 months now!!!
Love me a tomato, absolutely down with the tomato girlies! ❤😂🍅
3:20 meanwhile, Tim Hortons has had the bagel belt on their menu for over a decade😅. It’s not that revolutionary, but I’m sorry you hadn’t experienced it earlier, Sam😔.
Story two is WAY over the top. Made the “victim” seem like he may have deserved the work he was given or being called out by the other coworker. Like i really wonder how he was at work if this was his “petty revenge”. I’m getting unreliable narrator.
It’s crazy that they all think it’s weird for dude at the end to shoot his shot at SJ. I heard nothing wrong besides four young people that are furthering the divide between us as a society that needs to be capable of face to face interaction…
You know Sam would be down for the “Only Tails” 😏😌
I love tomatoes
I’m so earlyyy!!! Hi from Portugal!
She’s African and wore traditional African wear. I feel like y’all weren’t even listening.
44:09 headphone warning lol
Ahhh hiii!!!!
he wore a white Batman suit to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding
I hate when businesses ask for my name. I use “27”. My name is noyb
sam is really hard to hear. Is it just me? Do i need to have the lower registers of my hearing checked?
The golfing husband wants a mommy, not a wife.
Spends most of his time playing LoL = League Of Legends
34:40 This isnt the dunk you think it is. Why is the idea of working for 2 days any more more ridiculous than the capitalist idea of working 5 days out of the week to get 48 hours of free time? Free time that gets spent cleaning, shopping, doing chores, etc by most people.
How come my comments keep getting deleted? 😭
AHHHH IM EARLY
Maybe a bad take, but I feel like that petty revenge story has a lot of holes and I have a feeling that OP was overblowing the situation. They kept saying that their boss and other coworkers sided with Karen and that made me wonder if his perspective was reliable. I also think the revenge he took is indicative of some of this. It honestly makes me wonder if he did not like that a woman was more respected at his company than him.
With the wedding dress story I think the verdict depends on the actual dress. You can't show up dressed like a queen/pope to someones wedding and we don't know how extravagant the dress was. So idk if OP is an a hole.... I'd have to see the dress.
She’s not it’s different cultures
But wouldn't the relativity of queen-ness kind of ruin a "standard"?
For the bride story i kinda think everyone is an asshole first the mother of the bride for her racists response and the american girl for not looking what "dress to impress" mean for some european & not dancing even if it's not ur things it look like she was bored to the eyes of some of the people i think. And more than all leaving before the end is disrespectful but well 😅
You cant say "it's my first white wedding" as an excuse to be ignorant of sometimes culture then get mad when they say "this isnt Africa" 😂
