I didn't realize that Jordan came from College of the Desert. Jordan's story reminded me of the story of Dr. Raul Ruiz. Getting into medical school without money out in that same desert region, he knocked on doors in and beyond his neighborhood asking for loans for him to continue his studies. He signed promises to pay people back. People were very proud of him studying to be a doctor and many people chipped in. When he graduated and went into practice, he paid everybody back. Then he started programs at the hospital to bring in young scholars with disadvantaged backgrounds so that they too could take that path to being a physician. People in the region trusted him so much that they convinced him to run for the US Congress, even though he was no politician, and he won. So now, I'm sure he tells people... C'mere.

"I did not wanna come home empty handed" hits so hard. I think most men fall into that feeling. If we make it home with less than we perceive as expected then we feel like we failed.
