Claytos Republic I actually have such a 'system overload emergency powercut' it's called kataplexy and its a rare form of epilepsy induced by too many different kinds of triggers like loud noises or bright flashes
Also, I find (at 71) that as I walk around having my day: being on the lookout for funny situations and mis spellings, or just silliness, gives me such joy. And the happy feeling - lingers long in my mind. And, I suspect, in my immune system, to fight illness and aches and pains..
Watching this really makes me realize that humor is a skill, and that is from his presentation. He adds jokes along with facts that make you laugh, but it is not forced.

People don't understand my jokes they always take the opposite of what I meant. Speaking of opposite, if you say funny backwards it kinda sounds like enough, which is what people keep telling me after my jokes😢
Depends on the culture. A lot of it is wit and in some cases people don't respond positively to some jokes. It sounds like I'm restating the obvious, no, I *am* doing so. Humor is often a reflection of how much you understand a person/people's culture. Personally normal jokes don't really work unless they're done in conjunction with the odd random event in life, or in quick back-and-forth banter. Some people laugh easily, some almost never budge. When people don't laugh, we might take it personally or dismiss their culture when it might just be different. It's the humor version of rejection. I don't think it's that people lack a sense of humor, it just doesn't match up with another people's humor. Different strokes for different folks.
What most teachers aspire to is the ability to be entertaining while they educate. Andrew is trying to educate, while being entertaining and he succeeds. Love the rhythm, it draws us along and while delivery is a matter of taste and not everybody busts a rib listening to John Cleese, the dry, factual way that Andrew delivers his punch lines is powerful yet understated, or perhaps, powerfully understated. This is also a TED talk that is inspirational because if I tech nerd can come up with successful lines, there is hope for all of us. Well done, Andrew
Dear Andrew, W.T.F., youtube is reading my mind. Just yesterday I was thinking about the importance of humor and how I should cultivate this skill to it's maximum potential. Great talk. Enjoy a fun life!
It was a joke in the video.. A guy walk up to a girl in the Bar who ignore his.. as a geek the guy responds " You are way above average, dont be mean(the mean in statistics ie Average)" it cant be any geeky and wittier.. :)
While technically true, an infinity is often used to denote unbounded limits especially in a beginning level calc course (which most ppl will end up stopping at)
@@GuiPurri Twitter has never been a place that advocated for free speech. It has gotten worse though. People’s account being temporarily disable or permanently disable due to people posting jokes 5 years ago. Cancel culture is the worst of it. Examples include canceling a Mexican content creator for speaking Spanish. Ruining a mans life because he was cracking his knuckles out of context at a protest (the man wasn’t directing it at anybody). Canceling a minor content creator for having friends. It’s not all a terrible community with toxic people, but is certain has a large amount of people who get super offended at jokes.
He does not express himself like an average engineer, and I don't say it as an stereotype, but rather as my perception, since I am an engineer and know that engineers tend not to have much humor, or iniciative in general, we just solve problems and talk to a computer all day long. It's pretty cool when people realize that they can improve in certain areas, such as humor and attitude, and just go for it. I think I am one of the few engineers who want to have a different attitude to people and life in general, just like this guy. Well done!
I used to work for a wedding photographer, and I learned that if you take enough pictures (a ton of them, really) then you'll always end up with some great gems. The same thing applies to cracking jokes, at least in my experience. Just let them out, and you will land some great ones even if there are some duds.
That's a great strategy. On a slightly less attractive version of this principle a guy I know used the shotgun broadside of the barn approach with hitting on women, (his terminology not mine) shoot his shot at everyone he could and eventually he'd get his target.🤷🏽♀️ I like your approach better.
Added to my list of favorite TedTalks. He’s talking about the power of funny and being funny at the same time. That’s kinda genius. I love to laugh but there are actually people in this world who don’t like funny and laughter. You can like what you like but how can anyone pass up an opportunity to just get a “good feeling” even if it’s just temporary. Love, someone else’s grandma
Favorite quote: "I am obsessed with milk shakes. Milk shakes are the most efficient form of dessert." He just made my life better, and my dessert obsession justified.
This is so true. I have worked in a number of different environments, including managing my own IT company and being a London Policeman. In both of those environments, humour was very much a part of everyday life. It was used as a mechanism to cope with the stressful moments that occurred in very different circumstances. I don't remember much of the difficult times in the police but I can recall many of the humorous ones.
This guy is actually very funny and smart. Good delivery and I'd say he's "underrated" as a stand up comic and I don't know why. The more you listen to him, the more you'll like him. Thanks.
I use humour every chance I get at work. Especially when people seem pissed off. It's the most amazing feeling knowibg that I've made someone's day seem a little bit brighter than it was before they walked in...
I love this, I share it very regularly and usually wind up watching it myself again each time (at least 10 times now). Humor is everything and this guy, as he says himself, personifies the fact that humor doesn't have to be innate and that's beautiful :)
One element to being better at humour is being able to see the funny in your own life. This was a non-verbal point that he made throughout his presentation. From showing old photos of himself to listing the famous people he has been told he resembles (can totally see the Justin Timberlake one btw lol), he constantly demonstrated how he uses his own life experiences and peculiarities to generate a laugh. We all have something about us that's funny. It's about opening our eyes to it, owning it and sharing that with others.
This guy made some really subtle easy to understand jokes, surprised the audience didn't get around him more. Not the funniest thing I've seen but impressive considering it was informative and he taught himself comedy

And finally take note that wrapping someone in a foil blanket is not as good as wrapping them in a hug and telling them a silly knock knock joke. lol hope you stay safe and do good work!

Hahahahah same with me. But I keep telling my jokes that way
Roy Mizrachi ..Your comment was funny.
Be like proton . Be positive.
I’m kinda confused why a lot of people in the comments is still trying to learn to be funny while they already get me laughing to death
Indeed 😆
internet humor is different with real life humor
We've all been infected by the humour in this video.
Dear Andrew,

@@GuiPurri Twitter has never been a place that advocated for free speech. It has gotten worse though. People’s account being temporarily disable or permanently disable due to people posting jokes 5 years ago. Cancel culture is the worst of it. Examples include canceling a Mexican content creator for speaking Spanish. Ruining a mans life because he was cracking his knuckles out of context at a protest (the man wasn’t directing it at anybody). Canceling a minor content creator for having friends. When he made the sin joke, my first though was, "OH." (Opposite / Hypotenuse) 😂 I would definitely respond favorably to this pick up line. 👌🏻

This is now my favorite talk.

Man this is GOLD! Always had that feeling that the skill of humor is underrated
Underrated for sure but overused everywhere!!!
