Wow! I was there in all my 13 year old glory. I never thought I would see something like this up on TH-cam. You are so cool to take all that time and remaster these precious films. The sound is exceptional! It is so cool to see the concert up close. I was so far back they were all specs. Thank you so much for all the work and sharing!
I envy you! Being a hard rock, metal fan, I appreciate all genres of music!!🎶 I went to the 83' Heavy Metal Day the next year!
@@kerbystaley It was so much fun! I am sure that metal fest rivaled this festival. 🤘
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great comment - just pinned at the Top
Was there too, 15 it was my birthday
Her voice is so amazing !! No effects on her microphone! Raw untreated vocals. American woman!!!!!!!
16 years old, about 20-30 rows back in the middle, hot, dusty, and high as a kite on the L S D- such good times. What an incredible day. The B-52's, The Talking Heads, and Oingo Boingo sort of stole the show that day.
wow those mustve been great bands to hear see on acid 🙂
I was there as well. On that day Gang of five, The Ramones, and the Police played as well.
@@anthonyburnham6670 Gang of Four....but. yeah. They opened. The English Beat was impressive too.
@@JimmyHandtrixx It was one of those right times for something like that. Of course, back then, we considered a weekend to be the right time for that.
LOL! Yes, gage of four. I don't know why I typed 5. And I went to see the English Beat and the Police. I am going to Las Vegas at the end of May for the Punk Rock Bowling Festival to see the English Beat again!@@88pjtink
I loved this song when I was 21 and I love it at 64.
Watching Fred play that glockenspiel with the stoic intensity of a man disarming a bomb.
Of all the comments regarding this video, yours is by far the best.
James Bond in Goldfinger comes to mind
Dont forget his booger sugar jaws.
He looked nervous at first
Playing in front of 400000 people must of been an experience
Rickie on the lead guitar was sensational
Rickie was way ahead of the game - he once siad Rock N Roll was gone - He sure could play that Guitar man - " Hall of FAME Rickie Wilson " !
Three strings!
His playing changed my idea of guitar... he opened a whole unique sonic world!
@@idpfilm Ricky
Agreed
I saw them a few years back, before COVID, Kate was 70 and still rocking a mini dress and gogo boots. Inspirational. Be healthy, stay young.
This was the best concert line up i've ever seen in my life! The Ramones, Oingo Boingo, B-52's, Talking Heads and the Police all in one day! I even ran into Ray Bradbury, Steve Wozniak and Steve Bartek when i wandered through the almost-empty tents, and was able to chat with all of them. What a day that was!
Wow now that's a line up! Ray Bradbury too?!
Yeah. What the hell was Ray Bradbury doing at the US Festival?
@@langelle1 Good Question!
According to Ben Wener of the Orange County Register (September 1, 2012), "As with all aspects of the US Festival - the security force, the loaded tech expo, the lineup of guest speakers (ranging from Ray Bradbury to Bianca Jagger), even the stage itself, which now resides at Fantasyland Theatre in Disneyland - Wozniak “paid top dollar for everything.”
There were several tents set up for the tech expo -- filled with early 80s technology. I visited the tech tents during The English Beat's set. The tents were practically empty at that time, but there were a lot of exhibits and random unaccompanied notables like Bradbury and Woz wandering about.
Fuck yeah
B52s.....my all-time fave American band.
Everyone should have a little room in their hearts for the B52s ❤❤❤
Agreed
Any band that can make you smile this much deserves one's respect and appreciation .
Man that guitar is awesome.
The legendary Ricky Wilson, like all the greats, left us too soon.
As products of late 70's and early to mid 80's music, very few of my friends liked the new music wave. We were all enthralled with Blue Oyster Cult, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, the Scorpions and Lynyrd Skynyrd. While I still love those those bands and hard rock in general, I took a shine to the Talking Heads, Blondie and Devo a little harder than the guys I hung with. I still think the B-52's are a severely underrated New Wave band and I still listen to them regularly. Favorite songs? Private Idaho, 52 Girls
Me too Markyapp
From the UK I totally agree with you.
Dance This Mess Around
" I ain't no limburger " one of the greatest lyrics in the history of Rock !!
@@ttomgast1769 That's another one! You gotta say, their songs are fun!!
Ditto
I was there, 21 years old, what a time to be alive!
Lies
When this track came out I thought there was something special about it. I was right and I’m still listening to it over 40 years later. Great performance. Brilliant band.
Too right! They were hitting it hard. I was 13, now I'm 55. It's still good.
Too right
Freakin Ricky Wilson is a GREAT guitar player! Left us way too soon...
Really nice video and sounds good too. Thank You!
Ricky's guitar had such a unique sound
His sound was a total throwback to early rock n roll, and he got a ton of mileage out of it.
Yes, they were really this brilliant.
Looks and sounds great, what a huge labor of love to produce this! Thank you for remastering the entire concert and for sharing it with us.
IT JUST NEEDED TO BE DONE ! - " What a Group " - " What a Concert " - History needs to be kept alive .......... " This Band should be in the Hall of Fame " - SUPERSTARS ..... with Ricky on the Lead Guitar it was going to be History in the Making ! - and boy could he play that Guitar.
I’m a sabbath/zeppelin fan. But propts to the 52’s. Great Great Band. I’m out of words.
well said & so true
Cindys voice is amazing.
I've been head over heels in love with a woman for over 40 years and I've never even met her.
Her name is Cindy Wilson ❤
Hands Off She's Mine!
Y'all can fight over the candy.
I want the fish.
Same ❤
Kate is mine then 🥰
👍@@kencraig7308 Good luck with that 😉
The level of pure talent from so many bands back then is just astounding !!!! These folks worked their butts off hard and it shows. Legendary
This is the most 80’s thing I’ve seen in a long time.
Awesome! Ricky was a unique talent.
I was so fortunate to see them at the Us Festival. Crazy times with the ULTIMATE PARTY BAND! Fred is perfect keeping the xylophone hook in the song as well. RIP Ricky Wilson.
Watching Ricky jam is always a pleasure
His style is unmistakable his own picking and it’s The B52s!!❤
It’s a shame. This level of uniqueness will never happen again. Maybe in a pub in a small town somewhere?
You’re name makes sense😞
Cal Jam 1 and the US festival
Two of the best concerts in history
Cindy looking gorgeous.
My wife bought tickets to Vegas from Australia last week to see them. And she doesnt mind that Im still in love with Cindy
My wife and I saw their Vegas show last fall too. You won’t be disappointed. We live in Atlanta where the b52s are from. We had only seen them once before and knew that we couldn’t miss one of their final shows. Cheers.
I started the summer of 1981 being weirded out by “Dance this Mess Around” and finished it with a new favorite band-the B-52s.
What an outstanding band!
ALL HAIL THE B52's💜🤘🏽
Passed their first album to my son recently. Hope he has it as long as I did.
Watch his face light up ! - You have given him a beautiful gift - Music like the B-52's gave us back in the 80's - made the 80's and 90's the best years ever ! - GLORY YEARS of hope and Love
It's a jam and he will.
Sound is so vivid. The tactile sound of Ricky's fingertips on the strings. Cindy's breathy notes and false-cord growl.
Legendary guitar riff. They absolutely killed this. Legendary band.
i dont see a comment pointing out the story of the song, so here goes. ricky wilson (guitar) wrote this song, for his sister (cindy wilson, vocalist) to sing. it was based on a fight they had in childhood. he took one of her toy dolls and went off with it, to tease her. she chased him around the house saying "give me back my man. i'll give you everything i have etc".
Here’s me thinking it was a Jolene style thing.
Not true
@@jussikankinen9409 oh but it is. should be easy enough for you to find the interview with cindy. go look it up. not interested in your baseless assumption. which is what it must be. if you knew what was true, you would know that this is.
Why not just include a source?@@ice-iu3vv
Cindy, and all the B-52's, are on record many times saying they don't want to ever explain their songs. They prefer them to be esoteric. If Cindy did give such an interview, she was bullshitting.
I was 9yrs old and remember my mom playing this song over and over. Good times
Oh your mom must have wanted her man back. 😔
Ricky's rhythm lead was a force to be reckoned with...seriously great.
it’s incredible.
Keith Strickland was killing it on the drums.
Finally!! So much love for Ricky Wilson ( quite right) and Cindy Wilson ( Swoon) but the skeleton it all hangs on is that amazing driving beat ( and bass drum). God only knows how he sustains it throughout.
I had heard how instrumental the guitar player was to this band, but didn't really grasp his importance until I saw this video. I have always liked this band .
You had to see these guys live. I saw them in San Francisco Civic Auditorium (I think) around the time of Mesopotamia and the minute they came on stage, everyone stood up and danced until the end of their show. Never saw that happen with anyone else!
Both Wilsons at their best.
All ages show. My daughters who are now 30s still love the 52s . Me too. Great free show. Tight + light .
Came out in 1977-78
I'll give you fish,
I'll give you candy,
I'll give you everything I have in my hand.
Why?
@@adebadwolf a siren stole her man.
Yeah lovely aye, nice words
How are they not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame
The woke ROF inducts RAP stars to make them feel important.
I think this is my favorite of all Cindy's looks! She was so fine! Fish and candy and Cindy's love. What more could anyone ask for?
I totally agree!
I will always love them!! Always makes me happy whenever I listen to their music!
Ricky was so underrated as a guitarist
Ricky Wilson was outstanding. His use of the Space Echo 501 is freakin' genius…♥
Cindy Wilson: one of the few human beings that understand what existance is all about.
I was there for all 3 days
The Dust Festival
The low end on that bass synth totally rips! 🤯💥
This was such an amazing performance Ricky RIP was incredible 4 strings and the heavy gage you could put on his guitar and what he does is brilliant, he just LOOKED cool preppied out for 1982 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Graduated in 82! Me and my lady friends were SO INTO THEM, the Cars, in late 70’s, before the big new wave thing started, we consider the B-52’s as punk
If I had only one shot at a time travel I’d hop back to this set.
a great comment - bet so many would do the same
THAT is how I want to play guitar! RIP Ricky!!
Rick is the best!!!
I was at this 3 day concert. It was the best. So many really great bands. US festival 82. Thanks Woz!!
You can just picture her and her brother running around as kids as she screams at him, " Give me back my Man !!"
Great sound.
I'd like to have seen a lot more of Super Cindy dancing.
That's been a while ago. I was there. ❤
I remember in 81 as a 12 year old dancing to this awesome band at our dances!!! 👍👍👍👍
I like how calm/cool Cindy is with like 100000 people 5 ft from her mic.
this is the best of humanity right here
B-52's at the Concord Pavilion made my top 5 concerts ever, and i've seen a lot of live bands.
Yes! The Greatest New Wave American Band of All Time!!!!
I love it. Many pals of mine muck me because i like them . They cannot understand how can i have taste for b52 and king Crimson ELP yes and so may prog bands . I SEE b52 kind of special unique style and originality
probably one of the greatest songs ever written. utterly slays with such a minimal arrangement.
Cindy Wilson is on fire🔥
Bloody brilliant!!!!!
I am sure they wil read this one - nice one
Saw these guys Providence Colleg circa 88. Unfortunately, Ricky was gone by then. Countless hours listening to the B52s in high school. Great memories.
I don't think there is a band The exemplified the fun, the genius and the life of the 80s than the B 52s!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
OMG ....... So true and a magical write up - Thank you for posting so nice x
I hate sounding old but, we're used to lots of different kinds of music today. When this came out in 1980 it was insanely brave, totally different and very contagious.
Great to see Ricky at the fullest extent of his powers. RIP sweet price.
❤ love it ❤
The B52’s were part of my youth. The B52s are part of the future. Music and performance that transcends time and fashion.
Excellent!! A band that marked its own style and the mix of many interesting things. Thanks for keeping it alive!
Our pleasure ! - The whole World need to know how good they were - why are they not yet in the Halll of Fame ?
Wacthing from SP Brazil.
Bom dia!

I never got to see these FANTASTICAL'S live and if I had a T.A.R.T.I.S. I wouldn't travel back in tyme to save the world, I'd be going to concerts that I was either too young to go to or financially broken to go to, B~52's
Big Definitely,Black Sabbath the OZZY yrs. & many many more. when the B52's 1st hit the airwaves in 1979 with Rock Lobster I couldn't make out what they were saying (I have a hearing problem) I understood every word except ROCK LOBSTER, so when I called my local Radio station to request the song I asked them to play that Russian song called FLOB SCOBBA ,he laughed his ass off and politely corrected me, but bashed me on the air. one of the best songs ever, thanks for listening ✌️to all
SPACE RANGER JYM
Amazing how intricate B-52s were to sound Pop and punk. I loved the melodies and the rhythm, so infectious and I never realized how they made this sound live. Some people just assume it’s studio magic but there are some singers who are just super talented.
Ricky with that driving punkabilly rhythm is off the chain.Im a metal head but props to Ricky.Freakin genius.
Their in my top 10 favs, unique and timeless.
What a band ,what a time .
Listening to the B52s always simultaneously brings the widest smile to my face as well as a few tears to my eyes (mourning my long lost youth). Goddam I love this band.
It’s 2024 and i just discovered this Great song!!!❤
Thank you Steve Wozniak!!!!!! At 21 YO I managed to see all three days...barely...LOL. What a great weekend. The endless water supply helped with the heat......dang I'm old...
Charlres - you were there ! - Your One lucky Guy ....... seeing History in the Making - Does't come better than that !
Damn. What groove on that guitar.
Thank you for posting this. I had the GREAT fortune to be at this show. I only went for the first day, drove all the way down from Northern California, but it remains the greatest Festival lineup I've ever seen. Gang of Four. Ramones. Oingo Boingo. English Beat. B-52s. Talking Heads. The Police. And I'm pretty sure I still remember the order. Everyone was in rare form. (Hot as hell, though.) Also - my favorite Cindy performance. Still rings.
You are one hell of a Lucky Fella - to be there back in 82 .......Here at IDP FILM many a day the Studio is playing tracks through the large B&W studios speakers - most of the time it's the B-52's
We have since the 80's been B-52 fans - and for you to actually have been there - it must have been just a Magical Time ! - only in the USA can this happen
You were so lucky going to this concert. I was at university at Exeter England when this took place. Wish I had been at the concert ! Thanks for sharing your experience
the guitar is great !
Man what a great band. Thanks for reminding me !
I got the word of mouth on the B52s from a guy who was a musician I respected. I played it like crazy for everyone, including my parents. Everyone loved it. Then before long, they hit the sellout route and decline. It took a while to get to Love Shack, but it was a sad slide. They had such a great sound on that first record, and every song was awesome.
Yep. I was a huge fan for years, but when love shack came out I was shocked and confused… of course, most people know them only for that song and that album.
Sad…
Thank God Autotune was still decades away from being invented. Raw, rough, and real, the talent was in the people rather than in the machine.
i love this song ❤️
As a pro dominantly rock and metal fan
I always liked the B52s because of how original they were
You can pretty much tell it’s a 52s song in about 20 seconds
My favourite B52s track
Absolute FIRE 🔥 😍 They were so darn talented and cute. All 5 are Heartbreakers. Ricky's guitar , Keith's drums and Cindy's voice, amazing.
Like my absolute fav B-52’s song!
Ricky rocking the coolest guitar riffs ever. Wore those records out and really dig this band.
Ricki Wilson was the first music loss I remember feeling sad about but he's so very alive right now above as I type - and it's sort of true he's living when we play this stuff
I'll give you fish ❤ one of my favorite songs.
Those us festivals were great.
Those days are gone
That was badass!
B2s' holey damn!
