      He wanted to be famous. He sent his demos to radio stations and producers, they didnt come looking for him. Thats how he became famous.
      Let you in on a little secret...Every musician wants to be famous. Thats why we join bands and try to get record deals. If it was just about the love of making music then we would all stay in the garage or basement and be satisfied. If you want to play in front of people and make a living doing it, theres only one way. Get famous.

    • @91clarie
      @91clarie 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +158

      @@LordoftheOzarks There is a difference between making a solid living out of your talent and having a stable, but relatively small fanbase and being Taylor Swift - style famous. Gotye never wanted the latter. The success of STIUTK was completely coincidental, it made him uncomfortable, so he decided to step out of the spotlight afterwards. He's still a musician and plays with his old band and lives a normal life in Melbourne, Australia. That's exactly what he wants and I love that for him.

    • @LordoftheOzarks
      @LordoftheOzarks 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

      @@91clarie Basically he wanted to be famous until he found out what came with it. Nobody sends their demo to radio stations thinking theyll play it just for a select amount of people, or to record producers hoping theyll only sell a small amount of records or book a small amount of gigs. Thats just goofy.

      yes, the contrast is heightened here, because the whole thing almost has such a childlike quality to it. all the staccato sounds and the super simple chords. the little xylophone picking out the melody is like something you'd find in a kid's classroom. marry all that with the sad, heartfelt lyrics and it's instant melancholy.

      We find someone and make them our lives, but then it goes wrong, and we must look again for someone to love. The human condition makes us need to love. There will be those who need that love, too; you just have to be open to it and not look for it. Love will find you, proximity and exposure. We never get older just our bodies do. We are still our kid self just with more life experience and knowledge. Be young again.

While I certainly was no angel, I was so mentally and emotionally abused in that relationship, blamed for everything, yet codependently hanging on his every word and feeling hoping to make things better. I just couldn't live that way anymore. We tried being friends for a little while after the break-up, but after a while, I just couldn't. So, it's now been 17 years since I've seen or spoken to him. 2024 and I the way she looks at him almost made me cry. Some people just have a passion that wakes up extra senses beyond the physical world. My God what a voice.

      just a good song? this was a masterpiece which scooped the awards and was a massive worldwide hit. And far from his only hit. But more importantly it is unique and timeless.

    One of the best songs ever. Captures a universal truism about many relationships--you are in love and together, it gradually falls apart, and then it's over and that person is no longer part of your life. Brilliant.

      Well Gotye wrote it for her to sing with him. It's also why they didn't do anything else - it's a unique song with a unique statement, which he only wanted to do with her. Inspired choice, as she is the perfect partner for it though. It's music art.
