I would say that individually they were certainly above average singers, but harmonizing together is where they really shined. I'm not the biggest fan of ABBA, but I have to admit that those two female vocalists were also on another level. Dancing Queen is another great example of a powerful harmonic duo.
WOW. The B-52's were so talented they transitioned to the 90's totally seamlessly. Same great voices, same great instruments, same fresh sound. GOD BLESS 'EM ALL.
It's close. "Deadbeat Club" has better lyrics and mines deeper emotions (the band's guitarist dying will do that), but "Roam" has Kate's "DiRRty and dusSSty trails" 🎙️

This is by far my most favorite song of the era. I live in Georgia and sadly I never got to see them play. The vocals in this song sends chills down my spine. None better.
Their vocals were second to none here. What a perfect match in harmony. So catchy and fun. Did we Gen X'rs know how good we had it with this kind of music? Probably not because we were younger. It's nice to be able to revisit all the raw talent from the 80's and 90's and further appreciate it.
I remember my mom playing this B-52s greatest hits CD all the time growing up in the early 2000s. It always made me happy because she loved those songs, especially this one. amazing band. If someone doesn't like them, I don't even understand. Maybe Fred's style might rub someone the wrong way, but their percussion* and vocals and totally fun quirkiness are one of a kind. * If you wonder why I single out their percussion it's because I saw them in concert at the Minnesota State Fair and they had a person on drums, and another on stuff like bongos, and damn that was something you don't see much
One of the all-time great videos of the 80's. Back when originality and talent fused into something beautiful. And there is no living being with a soul that can't love Fred Schneider!
An incredible track and band. I remember when this album was released when I was a teenager. "Love Shack" and this song were just everywhere music could be played.
Definitely underrated vocalists, especially Kate! She's an amazing singer, and I have a feeling critics often overlooked her because she was in a rock band.
My... main Kate Pierson reference is/was "shiny, happy, people". First time I heard this (years later not being a huge B52's fan) still nailed it in seconds. The guys in rock get a lot of dues about being "an amazing voice". These 2... absolutely on point on harmonies and unisons. Amazing track.
I know this is dark but I will have this song played at my mothers services. Few other songs take me back to childhood riding in the backseat while mom drives us kids around town. It’s one of her favorites.
Their voices were utterly incredible I couldn't stop listening, so beautiful and melodic. I'm glad to have been a child of the 70s/80s and adult in the 90s.
My friend I am with you with this wonderful song. I used to call the radio station in Toronto call cftr 680 all hits to play this song every day. God the 90s were so great back the for great songs like this.
This is one of the most underrated vocal performances in pop music history, and I don’t own a single B-52’s song in ANY format. I’m just glad this is here when I want/need it.
Dee Donner Ramone the first 10 years of MTV changed soooo much about the music business. It kind of restructured WHY bands toured and how we consumed our music. But in a way, with as much nostalgia as I feel for it, in hindsight it was probably the kick off of a slow decline that has by today rendered it a dinosaur. I hate consuming music through download because I always thought one of the coolest things about being a fan was getting to touch that album after you bought it, the artwork, photos, song info, liner notes ect. I miss that.

Honestly... I feel these two women have the most robustly true female singing voices ever. Their ability to just belt out lyrics is just talent!
You never heard Vika and Linda Bull then. Two south sea islanders they are magical. Do yourself a favor
@@zapkvr okay... I'll look them up.
I would say that individually they were certainly above average singers, but harmonizing together is where they really shined. I'm not the biggest fan of ABBA, but I have to admit that those two female vocalists were also on another level. Dancing Queen is another great example of a powerful harmonic duo.
Yeah I really love Heart also
Agree
WOW. The B-52's were so talented they transitioned to the 90's totally seamlessly. Same great voices, same great instruments, same fresh sound. GOD BLESS 'EM ALL.
Yes, this is the best pop song they ever did. Solid song structure, wonderful vocals, and tight musicianship, too.
The intro sounds like "Wild Child" by the band W.A.S.P. that came out 4 years before this.
100%
It's close. "Deadbeat Club" has better lyrics and mines deeper emotions (the band's guitarist dying will do that), but "Roam" has Kate's "DiRRty and dusSSty trails" 🎙️
Not Channel Z?
@@stephj9378 The B-52's have a number of great tunes. I happen to think that Roam has the best flow and that Kate and Cindy's vocals are first rate. Take care & Peace!

Dancin' too!
Still a great song.
It's me for example.

Still my fave after all these years !!!
man Cindys voice in her prime was just amazing, which is to take nothing away from Kates amazing voice as well. and when they harmonize with each other it is transcendent.
Melody, lyrics, instrumentation, performance, vocals , production, video, looks..... everything is just perfect. Pop at its finest
It blows my mind that this band is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, their vocals are outstanding, incredible song writers, and master multiple instruments.
Dolly Parton is a bigger rocker.

For my money the best harmonizing duo in music history. Their voices are solid alone, but turn magical when they come together in energetic harmony.

I hear a wind
Whistling air
Whispering
In my ear
Boy Mercury shooting through every degree
Oh girl dancing down those dirty and dusty trails

Timeless and legendary, icons. Love them so much
Kate and Cindy have otherworldly beautiful melodic voices
Needless to say that The B-52's are and always have been so Dope .
These girls sure knew how to harmonize
Still do! They may be in their 60s and 70s respectively, but if anything, they pull off those vocal harmonies with even less effort these days.
I think they invented it! Just so tight!

In addition to the cool lyrics and downright acrobatic singing by Miss Pierson and Miss Wilson, the video deserves extra kudos for featuring some of the best vintage travelogue footage-including many places and communities no longer intact.

amazing band.

I still mourn pre-Pinfield 120 Minutes.
I basically view this song as the 80s last hurrah.
