Brilliant video. I used an online spring calculator before buying my upgrade springs but I like the comparison you did. The carbon steel (dark colour) are stiffer than stainless (all else being equal). Unequal coils soften the spring rate and I'm guessing it's to reduce stress on the gears as it's a progressive rate.
Sadly my g36c gearbox lasted only minutes with a 1.4 unequal spring before the gears got stripped.
Would be good if you could do a field test on range and accuracy with a stock 1.1mm using 3s 11.1v battery vs 1.5mm .

Fewer coils= stiffer spring. But it also means a shorter spring, which means less or no preload.
The close coils in the center are a spacer used to lengthen the spring.
Spring rates are normally measured by how many kgs it takes to compress a spring by 1mm.
Springs can be linear (equally distanced coils measured with a single number) or progressive (unequally spaced coils requiring 2 numbers, a min and max spring rate). But if the coils are in contact they cannot store energy, and act as a spacer.

You really need to present a table of results at the end, or even better, in the description! By my sums, the 1.5 12.5 spring was marginally higher fps than the 1.4 13.9 spring. I think all of us were expecting the opposite, but I feel like there were other factors skewing the results, e.g. the individual fps numbers ranged from 260 to 323, which is a huge disparity, showing how many other variables are at play. That said, the typical numbers did clearly increase as the spring size and deflection scale increased.

Pretty glad I’ve seen this. Thought something was wrong with my modded M4A1 after I added a 1.5 unequal spring. It wouldn’t work even with a 3cell. Measure the bore fully pumped and the spring fully compressed. It had .5mm between each coil.

Cos lm using hard gell centers. But some of em do explode!! An lm sure it won't be long till the plastic spring retainer gives out, as low guido's did with the 1.5 spring. But it's a lot of messing around for just more fps. 240 - 270 is plenty, an u have better reliability over the long run!! Plus u also need to do the 11volt conversion. Witch is more work!! So it's not just do this an all's good. It's constant maintenance!! A pain in the area really!!. Scott

    Hi Mate,
I just did an total upgrade on gearbox. Metal gears, plunger, cylinder head, ladder, motor, piston head and 11.1 battery with 1.4 uneven spring. My problem is that the uneven spring is binding up after a couple shots. I have spent 2 days on it so far with no result. If I put the standard spring back in it works fine. I hope you can help me. You are upgrading your gearbox as well ? Will need metal gears and new Piston for those springs, or you will be replacing them pretty soon as they will break. If stock i would suggest going for a 1.25 uneven spring. Awesome spring and you will see decent upgrades >1.4 and above is for decently modified blasters

@@lowguidoschopshop Motor and/gears, you need torque to pull the spring back. Gears at 32:1 will do that well, But unless you are getting a metal box, metal gears and piston/cylinder upgrade. your blaster wont last that long with 1.3 and higher.
Unequal springs are also designed to have shorter sharper punch in the same distance as a standard spring and be more gentle on the gearbox. 1.25 unequal spring will outperform a 1.3 standard and keep the blaster working
