      Do you think eliminating vacuum would benefit Airsoft applications? Increased cycle time maybe?

    • @lowguidoschopshop

      It's not as important because you can't really suck a BB back into the cylinder. But it would make it more efficient.

      firearms and gel blasters are two totally different animals. Gel blasters are fun toys that you can tag your mates with. firearms are a completely different thing that really shouldn't even be in the same sentence. I mean I enjoy target shooting, but there is something even more fun about running around in the bush stalking your mates.

  • @Ebonyqwe
    @Ebonyqwe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You’ll need a different “sized”system to measure vacuum. Make a replica of your manometer but use tubing with a quarter the internal diameter, or maybe less. This will greatly increase the deflection of the meniscus and allow you to accurately measure the vacuum.🤟also standardising the speed of plunger withdrawal will help make it more empirical, but “as fast as you can” is probably ok.

    What's the size of the O-ring

  • @hellboycustoms8284
    @hellboycustoms8284 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you test your compression with the nozzle forward or backwards because you need it sealing the best when nozzle is forward as if it is seated in nozzle

    • @lowguidoschopshop
      @lowguidoschopshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the position of the nozzle is not relevant to the plunger O ring. only the nozzle itself and it's o ring (if it has one)
      what you are saying stands true if you want to test the entire seal of the whole system, in which case you not only need the nozzle forward, but you also need to have the T piece and barrel fitted, and test it at the barrel end. as there is equally no point testing the seal with the nozzle forward if the T piece leaks or the barrel leaks. I hope that made sense.

    • @hellboycustoms8284
      @hellboycustoms8284 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Low Guido's Chop Shop yeah I know that you see a lot of ppl testing the seal of the o ring and that with the nozzle back testing the seal and a lot of the time the nozzle leaks on the cylinder head

    • @lowguidoschopshop
      @lowguidoschopshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hellboycustoms8284 yes. but again, that is a problem with the nozzle, not the plunger. if you are testing the plunger alone, (as seen here) the nozzle doesn't need to be forward, backward or even present at all. the seal of the nozzle is irrelevant to this test.

  • @mattpolson2349
    @mattpolson2349 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    To fix the vacuum problem, I took the standard cylinder head off and put it in the cordless drill and pushed a (I think 3mm) drill bit into the gap that the o ring sits in and slowly shaved it out about half a mm and then I drilled out the face holes one size just to be sure I wasn’t getting any vacuum from there.
    None of this is nessasery unless your building a speed build anyway, as long as the oring seals, the nostle seals and the Tpiece seals, then FPS comes down to the spring and the speed comes down to the motor, gears ratios and battery

    • @mattpolson2349
      @mattpolson2349 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot to mention to sand the seating surface while the head is still in the drill so that the oring seals perfect again

  • @jinxsmoments9583

    The oring you used on the standard piston head is too large hence why the vacuum on the return. Can see it is too big quite easily.

      It will certainly work on your DSG. It can only mke it better.

    • @lowguidoschopshop
      @lowguidoschopshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah the "BB's" we use are made of a polymer like a hard jello. in Australia by law BB's are considered ammunition and therefore airsoft is a firearm (I know it's ridiculous) so we have these "gel blasters" which are kind of like airsoft in operation, but they shoot gel. too much vacuum can actually suck the gel back into the cylinder and gearbox do its really bad for gel blasters. even though solid BB's cannot be sucked back, it's best for efficiency to minimize vacuum anyway.

  • @blusox78
    @blusox78 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you're fixating too much about the vacuum. What your model doesn't replicate is that when the piston is being pulled back the nozzle has no BB in it and is open to the barrel. It will therefore suck in air as the piston is drawn back, up to the point that a BB seals nozzle. Bare in mind that the seal the BB creates on the nozzle will be pretty bad, it only creates a good seal once the tappet plate releases the nozzle and the spring returns it in to the rubber bucking. Some nozzles also have a small half circle cut out on the underneath at the barrel end to aid BB positioning, this will also allow in air until the nozzle seats firmly in the bucking. Even though the airflow through the nozzle into the much larger piston will be restricted, it is not completely stopped, so the vacuum created will be negligible.

    • @lowguidoschopshop
      @lowguidoschopshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you are talking about airsoft. There's no BBs here and that's why vacuum is important. Vacuum will suck gel back into the cylinder.
