    Another to consider is that the ported cylinder are for the maximum effectiveness of the spring pressure. With full cylinder on a short barrel, the gel is already fully out of the barrel before the spring comes to a full push inside the cylinder, thus spring strength is under utilised.

    This is a great video. I have a triangle shaped port in one of my cylinders right near the base so it's not as big as a port as the one in the video. I tried using that cylinder after using a full one, but after I heard you say it's good for 16cm barrels I changed it. Fps did go up 20fps and it's very consistent now. My 100% cylinder randomly shot 340 fps to 500 at times and even though I have a hop up it didn't help as much as it should. Hoping to test it during daylight to see if its more accurate. I have a 25-23 cm barrel in my HL-15 honey badger I think.

    So I’ve just put a replacement gearbox with a full cylinder in an SLR, a brand new one no less due to crappy build quality. This video explains in layman’s terms exactly why said SLR still has punch but has lost all accuracy. Short barrel, needs ported cylinder. Long barrel needs full cylinder. Now go deep dive on the maths to find the goldilocks cylinder volume/barrel length. Low Guido you are a treasure trove of knowledge and skill in this risky, expensive world of gel blasters.

So i rece tly bought the krytac mk2 spr/pdw bundle and im just wondering how all this works with the same ported cylinder to barrel ratio when the pdw in er barrel is less then half the length of the spr inner barrel? Is the cylinder meant for one more than the other or is it just wrong for both or is it a middle ground that works for both lengths but not ideal for either lol

    Good walkthrough.
    So I am bad at math. So as a shortcut, if my barrel was 21cm. Or 60% of the ideal unported length of 35cm. Then I'd want a 60% ported cylinder. So basically I could use the length of the barrel (in percentage terms of 35cm) as a guide to get the desired port on the cylinder.
    Makes sense? Does the math work? Easier for my non-math brain.
    As a part two a test on fps impact of ported vs non-ported, given same barrel lengths, would be interesting.

    • @lowguidoschopshop
      @lowguidoschopshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      so for a 21cm barrel you would have about 9.277cc of volume in the barrel (based off a 7.5mm ID) for 1.8:1 ratio you multiply by 1.8 giving you 16.698cc you can then work that backwards to a cylinder length of 38.16mm which puts it just a touch longer than that of the cylinder that I had calculated at 61% so.. yeah, your theory checks out.

      Ermmmm pls correct me if im wrong. Ok for a reaaally non math & non number brainer like me, i would fully fill up my barrel with water, & then pour it into the cylinder. So above the surface line of the water in the cylinder, thts where i port the hole. Can this works efficiently too? For me either way does gave me excruciating pain when i test it on my skin so i canot really differentiate which is stronger. 😢

I've experimented with a full cylinder on a 1.2 spring pushing 280fps out a 50cm barrel.(Ausgel Milkies), i've had the same readings on another blaster with a 27cm barrel on a 80% ported cylinder, also 1.2 spring. :)

Being new to AirSoft, PaintBalls and such I only recently entered back into the BB gun thingy to find a whole new array of operations. When I left there were only BB guns, pellet guns and CO² but now there is so much more. I had been living in a world of collecting FireArms. But 3 Skunks found their way into my abode. 1st day I thought they were raccoons. But the very next day one climbed on top of me. (I was blind-sided) I did not wish to use my 45 so I ordered a couple BB guns and one 6mm GFSMG Tommy gun. You can't shoot one skunk without worry from the other 2 and if I was going to dispense them I really needed to do it quick, fast and in a hurry. Well they just kept coming back and they were always polite, even the one who climbed on me. By the time the guns arrived we had become friends and so now I will not shoot them, but i have some real problems with other critters, like rattlers and Raccoons that attack our chickens.

  • @trodengore
    @trodengore 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    1. the air turbulence sounds right but is wrong, you need excess air to assist in providing lift, this is why hopups are vented, also the air will only affect it in the first 1-3cm's of leaving the barrel, i have switched between ported and non ported cylinders and had no difference in accuracy at all.
    2. i lightly grease my cylinder and o-ring and have never had a vacuum issue, but if you use to much i guess there could be an issue but realistically the pressure will just blow the grease out.
    yes the physics make sense and the math is correct but in the real world it makes very little to no difference.

    • @trodengore
      @trodengore 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh thought i should add, the ported cylinders at least in airsoft are for when your running DSG and other extreme round per minute builds as another air intake to work around vacuum issues. some ported cylinders for this reason have 2, 4, or even 6 ports.

      the interesting thing about the Barrett is that it CAN have the correct cylinder/barrel ratio. but the long plastic outer "barrel" isn't a barrel at all. the real barrel actually stops where the receiver ends.
      also re ads: I have no idea how the youtube algorithm works but most of my videos get demonetized even the DSG builds that don't have anything "scary" in them. I have tried to understand why some do and some don't, but I always draw a blank.

    The reason for ports has nothing to do with the volume of the barrel, you on the totally wrong path. The first things is that air compresses right? So why would the volume of the cylinder compared to that of the barrel have any effect? The reasoning behind ports has to do with fluid dynamics. Think about this, in unported cylinders air beings to compress as soon as the piston is released where with a ported the speed of the cylinder is allowed to increase before air begins to compress. I'll leave you with that for now I suggest you think about this differently. I will begin to make sense I'm just trying to open your mind first. I'll elaborate in coming days.
