Glad to see someone else saw how rude he is. I noticed that when he did the first interview with Dale from Dale’s Leatherworks. If they veered off topic at all, he would interject and say something like “why aren’t we talking about boots’” he was rude to Dale like that 3 or 4 times. And Dale is the kind of guy who likes to get a feel for the person he interviews and learn about more than just the subject matter. But he’s also a kiss-ass. When he interviews anyone from Nick’s Boots, he lets the conversation go anywhere and not say a damn thing to “stay on topic.”
@@haroldguillarawan9066 I would put bet on mexican but it makes me wonder if wild boar and domestic pig would change in flavor and toughness cause i know pigs can turn feral if they get out.
Caswell makes really nice boots! Bought a pair last year and they are one of my favorites! Excellent fit, very high quality, and they look great! The guy who runs it is a really nice person to deal with. Love the idea of turning a problem invasive species into something useful. I know when I lived in Texas, feral hogs are a HUGE problem and do a LOT of destruction. They'd get shot and just left there. So nice that they are being made into a product!
I’m from Arkansas, live in Mississippi but also lived in Texas for 15 years working in the oilfield industry. We have wild hogs in Mississippi too and to some extent in Arkansas as well but nothing near the apocalyptic scourge that is in Texas. I’m excited to see a market for wild hogs besides feeding maggots and buzzards. I’d love to own a pair of Nicks builder pros made from wild hog leather.
I really like Nick from Stridewise. He is the person that introduced me to the Txture boots made in Indonesia. Best boots I own and about 2/3 the price of similar quality is boots made in England
In Russia pigskin leather is the cheapest. It's used mostly for work boots or military boots. I bought ones in a military shop for $30, I guess, in 2008. They smelled awful.
Don't forget about we fisherman. I watched an otter crunch up a nice rainbow trout yesterday. One of the most violent sounds in nature for sure. Although I am not a hunter myself, I sure enjoy elk, venison and pronghorn! Anglers in general, do a good job managing populations of fish.
Those are Very cool boots and OF COURSE we want to see them cut in half! :D Stridewise is a great chanel with a slightly different approach than yours. I enjoy both a lot. :)
From my point of view as a teacher of environmental science, there is a huge distinction between killing bears vs wild pigs. There is a real ecological benefit to control the deer/feral pig populations which are generalist species that are highly adaptable and have few natural predators. Overgrazing reduces primary production of vegetation, and increases the competition for native and specialized species. Killing bears is just killing useful predators in the food web that could help control those deer/pigs.
Dude your prices on your handmade leather goods is amazing!! I figured they'd be through the roof expensive but not at all. Definitely reasonable and looking forward to purchasing something in the near future.
I love this story!! We need projects like this. We also need shoes and boots out of Everglades pythons, tegu, and monitor lizard! I like hunting too. Might pick these up! Great video!
Can't wait to see the Japanese army boot collab. But I have to say the Stridewise product looks really sharp. This is a really short vertical integration product. And all American!
I would definitely appreciate a cut in half video. These boots look really awesome but they are made in Portugal and whilst that's not a bad thing necessarily, I know of some expensive brands made in Portugal which have really poor build quality. Also, no pressure but before Nov 5th when pre-orders end would be amazing!
It could be that those expensive brands are all about image rather than manufacturing quality. I'm glad that channels like Rose Anvil making honest opinion by cutting footwears in half.
Even though I’m animal lover, we really need to remember everything you said about nature being brutal. The animals aren’t idyllic in the wild. They live a short, stressful life, and they don’t die in a thatch mattress surrounded by loved ones. If they aren’t eaten, they die if exposure. When we take animals as pets, it’s miraculous, but it doesn’t just turn nature into a storybook.
Hahaha I was about to mention how affordable they are, but apparently I glanced over the page too quickly and got excited lol. That's a pretty steep price for boots that would only get worn about 10 times a year. That's just me though, and I'm sure there are plenty of folks out there that would wear it every other day.
@ 185 is the 50 percent down-payment. Total cost is $379.98. 30 bucks off first purchase if you subscribe to their thing. I thought they were only $189.99 at first glance and almost placed my order right, but then I read over things a bit more carefully. As I said I'm my previous comment, I got excited lol. I've been in the market for a new pair of boots, and thought these might be a steal. I like what they're doing though.
depends on where you are. where i am you dont touch the bear population because its pretty sparse. most of the feral boars we have are just escapees from pig farms so there isnt a large population of them either. other places it probably is a lot different though
Speaking of bears, I was always under the impression that the more top predators in an ecosystem, the healthier the ecosystem is because it keeps the pest population down, because the pests are what cause ecosystems to fail (like rabbits, locusts, or boars). At least that’s the case with tigers in the jungle.
...visited his channel... subbed... fun video. bought a pair. very nice looking boots. tanks. love this channel. :) and what a price!!!... and you hunt??? awesome. :)
That stride wise video is hilarious. Also, nothing wrong with responsible animal conservation. You are talking about guys hunting endangered species. Wild boar are menaces. They wreck absolute havoc, tough animal. Will you make the all your wallet models in the blood core leather?
My only concern with the bear hunting is: how much of it goes to waste? Do you at least bring the carcass with you for butchering? Does the hide get used for rugs n' shit? Do you sell the bear paws to some freaky Japanese gourmet or whatever?
What are you talking about? Are you seriously trying to compare bear to pigs? You literally call them invasive species in this video title. That by itself should show the most important difference between hunting them and a bear.
Seriously. One is an invasive species that is destroying the ecosystem. The other is a predator that would otherwise be helping rid us of the pig and deer over population, that doesn't even have good meat to eat, but you wanna kill it to feel like a big man.
I don't have a problem with you hunting. I do have a problem with you not understanding the difference between the impact pigs and bears on the environment.
Footballs are made from pigskin for a reason. Hearing about hunting shouldn't give anyone the vapors. It reminds me of a vegan woman who refused to feed her cat meat - the poor thing was an absolute mess.
I think you can like and wear leather, hunt and eat meat and still not mock those who try to make the world a better place, even if in some ways they are to strict, there's place for everything

Makes sense to do. Hog Hunting is so popular and what a waste of hides and meat if they aren't used.
😂😂😂😂 I love boots but chicharrons win.
Damn! Only goes up to 13. I’m a 14. Bummer! Still a great project!!!

I was just talking with my girlfriend about why there isn’t more pigskin being used for leather and she just said “chicharrons” 😂
They missed an opportunity to call the color Chicharron Brown 😂
I never thought about it but that makes perfect sense. Anyway your girlfriend is smart. I bet she's asian or Mexican after saying chicharon 😂

Glad you’re working on the Japanese WWII boot collaboration! Hadn’t heard you mention it in a million years.
Some of the best looking books I’ve seen on this channel in a couple of years

Must have been the smell introduced by the manufacturing process.
Im freeking dying ," murdered to death" this vid was on a bit of a different level. 👍

When I was a kid my uncle made a pair of moccasins from pig skin.
The coolest looking and feeling leather is from stingray , shark , iguana.

"30-50 feral hogs"
The 30-50 feral hogs were turned into leather. That's why the meme died out.
thank you

I saw his video and pre-ordered immediately! I think it's so damn unique, and good looking.
What a Unique take on harvesting!!!! Interesting INDEED!!!! Have to have this conversation with friends and family!!!!
Great looking boots and very interesting leather 👍
I love this concept.
For those wondering, the swine boots are made in Portugal.
the leather is sick, waiting for another model/design to purchase though
Been building boots from wild boar for about 20 years now.
Love the hunting stories.
I live in Texas. Feral hogs are an invasive PLAGUE. (Not javelinas; they are native, and they’re peccaries, not any kind of pig.)
I don’t hunt at all - and I’m super with you on all of this.
I really like the look of pig leather.

It’s not steep at all. $185 is nothing for a pair of boots. You can easily spend over $500 on a custom pair if you wanted to.

Nature IS metal
Pork hide have always been considered a third-rate product in the leather goods haberdashery industry.
I bought the tobacco shrunken bison claude wallet and it's going to arrive soon!
Awesome looking boot, too bad you can't find them in stock
Hunting is conservation period! Well said Weston, those that argue otherwise have done zero research into the subject!
I think most vegetarians recognize that hunting is by far the most ethical way to consume meat that doesn’t involve roadkill
This is indeed cool. Now let's cuht'em up
Should sell the hair. It's often used for shaving brushes
I think a fans hunting trip would be dope lol

One of the most American boots. Leather from American pigs, American tannery, and an American boot maker. 🇺🇸🦅
I wish it didn't have a Danite stud sole
Officer let me just reach for my black bison bloodcore clod wallet
Love 'em! And what a great idea for a TH-cam channel. You could call it Bacon 'N Boots. ;-) :-)
Many people seem to forget life and death have a one to one correlation. I have no problem with talking about death and hunting and such things.
I wonder if pig skin would work better for a sneaker style shoe since maybe the leather pieces can be smaller?

You guys need to start building custom holsters. What's the hold up? Forget camera harnesses.
Wait, are you cutting these apart on the standard channel?!?
1 shot then dinner. Meat=food, Hide=clothes/shoes.
More people need to talk about hunting. Were you able to keep those deer after they dove off the cliff?
I keep meaning to go to NYC to see if I can find that guy doing the leg stretch thing and then I realize how weird that is.
The Javelina here in AZ are absolutely a nuisance.. I wish we could do what Texas has been doing with wild hogs.
I think they make footballs from pig skin. I had a pair of pig skin gloves they are very tough!!
These look so good and I would love invasive feral hog leather but I have these stupid baby feet; grown ass man with size 6 feet
Of course it’s wild…….it’s feral!
Shark skin is the absolute toughest leather….
"The circle of life", Lion king.
Are they wide last
Also wym pigs and bears are close in relation? They are not closely related at all. They are both mammals and like that's it
His next collab, Florida man skin knee high Docs.
God dammit. A fucking guitar strap!!!!
2:42 what kind of bike is that anyone knows?
Hunting is cool.
Does it smell like leather or like pig?
Imagine if people could actually afford the boots you review, like normal working people. All nice , but $1000 boots is pretty niche.

Board bristles, so boar hair has been used for hair brushes for years.

Do Truman boots please

Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon!

Can you bog tan pig skin?
they are sold out, hopefully just for now.

Humans have a little nicer way of balancing the scales: War, Abortion, Fentynal, ....
