Right, this was the easiest fix to make the perfect boot, give us a legit sole. That was all that was needed. Now gotta hope the make em custom, because he is avoiding the obvious build, for being able to drop another version later.
My only request for the deep dive video would be to show one boot of each colour treated with the leather balm. I would like to see how the colour, water resistance, and texture change after treatment. Killer looking boots, mate.
Agreed. I would typically go for the darker brown on any boot but my experience with a pair of roughout buckle boots from SM Wholesale is that it will darken the boot considerably on the roughout. So I might rather try the lighter tan color, probably ending up with something that has a more split color appearance after treatment.
The barefoot African trooper quickly became my favorite boots. I hope they become a normal offering from Jim green and not just a limited run thing. This looks like a great addition to it too.
I hope this makes it to the custom builder. Thank you for your contribution to the community. I got into doing my own cobbler work because NOBODY was making shoes/boots that worked for me. I haven't bought any Jim Green boots yet, but they ar on my shortlist. They just keep rolling out winners, choosing the first pair is going to be the hardest part!
I just ordered a pair of single-lasted AR8's on the zero-drop last and buffalo hide leather with custom lacing. Jim Green hasn't announced when they will add the Troopers to their custom offerings.
@@willieclark2256 These boots seem kinda redundant because they look a lot like AR8's but they are single lasted with rough-out toe/heel. AR8's are tanky/heavy, Troopers are lighter but supportive, Rangers focus on mobility. I find it a little odd that they would release this boot, but I suppose it saves people the cost of doing a custom order, so that's good.
This is one of the most valuable channels on TH-cam. Rose anvil exposes products for what they really are, shines a light on true craftsmanship, fortifies American manufacturing, and these guys are living the life designing amazing products thru sick collaborations. Please review the triple aught design boot. Please!
I honestly wasn't that into the look of the boot until I saw the one with the honey colored sole. I will def wait until those come out. Good work guys!
I personally never cared for the profile of the barefoot trooper, but I think you're right, these ones are going to sell themselves. That is an absolutely gorgeous boot
If you did this with a wedge sole one of these days, I would actually buy these for work when my Thorogoods wear out. I love pretty much everything about Jim Green, but this is the first boot by them that would make sense for me to actually buy. I prefer a wedge sole though, rather than a heeled sole. Natural blown rubber, for preference. And have you noticed that nobody really puts any effort into the lug pattern? I know they are like 1mm thick and wear down quickly, but on slippery surfaces it could matter.
YAH YAH,,, Whatever you did, I absolutely loving this boot... It turned out amazing on my foot... Except the softer outsole,,, My only concern is I might need a resole sooner down the line... But everything else is perfect....
those black Rugged African Troopers look CHARP mang! I've been wanting a pair of black work boots for my rotation, and the JK Eclipse Forefronts have been on my radar.....now that I have seen these, and the sub $300 price point I REALLY want to see their construction so I can make a choice. I'll be keeping my eye out for part 2!
I’m a recent JG convert, bought a set of barefoot African rangers in walnut and I don’t want to look back. I still wear my red wings, because well I’ve already owned them for a few years and they’re properly broken in. But I’m looking forward to slowly replacing them with JG’s. And this collab will definitely be my second pair 😍
It's pretty cool that this is going on the shelves as a normal product, i basically custom ordered the black pair of these but steel toe with the tire wedge sole
I wore my Barefoot Troopers last night to an event, 6 plus hours standing and walking on a concrete floor, and not gonna lie, with no squish, my dogs were barking by the end. But everything else was really comfy. I have wide ass duck paddle feet, and the JGs fit so well. So if these Ruggeds can add just a bit more support and comfort underfoot, I’m so in.
I think you are right not a whole of option on affordable good quality unlined boot for all around use. Like hiking, working aroundbthe cottage and surveying the hunting terittory during off season.
Just found Jim Green the last few weeks and have been obsessing over ordering my first pair but struggling to decide which as though they have a lot of drool-worthy products, none quite fit what I was looking for. But this is that boot. Dying to get a pair of these in black.
Wore mine to work 2 days. They are really starting to break in really quickly. One thing I've noticed is I have hot feet and my feet get cold on winter mornings. Not complaining, just the first time that's ever happened to me in a boot
I love the wide toe box! I don't know why some of the high tier heritage boots keeps making boots with narrow last. It's always better to fit a roomy boots than a snug/tight painful toebox. Also, I love that dark choco brown! Looks really dope!
Been looking at doing a custom AR8 the looks similar to this. But custom orders are closed until February. Glad to see a production run coming of something very similar. Would love to be able to get them with the buffalo leather, though. Fingers crossed for Nov. 7!
But the reason I got a pair of Troopers was the zero-drop barefoot sole. I was hoping that they would be available from the custom shop when they start up next year. Seems like the Troopers with conventional soles have a lot of overlap with the AR8 boot.
Yeah the rugged troopers definitely have some overlap with the AR8 but I don't really see that as an issue. There are only a few options for the AR8 available in the US right now so this could be seen as just more variety. Plus these have the leather midsole, the flipped leather, and the African trooper pattern (which is very similar to the AR8 but there are differences). I'm always down for more Jim Green varieties so I have no issue with this. I just wish Weston would cut the Numzaan in half already, that was Jim Green's chief boot and I really wanted to see what he had to say about the improvements on it.
@jakepassolt9640 I've worn the Numzaan and the Baobab. The Numzaan is a beautiful and very well made boot. The all-leather construction is awesome. However, I found it to be very oddly shaped for my feet (too wide and lacking arch support in the mid foot) so wound up giving away my pair. Hope they work out better for their new owner.
Patiently waiting for the drop. I’m big zero drop wearer, but I live in a place where the barefoot sole isn’t luggy enough in the winter. So it might be worth having a little bit of heel.
They need to make these in the buffalo leather! I’m wearing a custome pair of razorbacks in rough out buffalo leather and they have been the toughest boots I’ve ever owned. I just ordered a second pair like last week. Guess I’ll be getting a pair of these too.
Massively overrated IMO. If the forefoot of a shoe is wide enough to begin with, there is no downside to a rounded toe. In fact, I find it better for stability and digging in on steep terrain. I've enjoyed my Baobab boots on the ASHM last more than the JG last for this reason.
@@UnbrokenBeliever This could be fixed if we add something between the big toe and the rest of the toes. Kind of like tabi shoes but a extra layer of leather can be stitched to cover it.
OOOO I'ma need a pair of these to go with mah Barefoot ARs! The barefoot boots have their place, so do the traditional heel rise boots. Wide toe box is the only way!
im bummed I just spent my funds on getting a pair of DuckFeet and dont have any leftover to get these as well. No hyperbole or exaggeration, I suspect these are going to be sold out day 1 for the next couple restocks. I have african rangers and razorbacks, but Ive been wanting a pair almost exactly like this since i found out about Jim Green through your content. I hope these sell well enough to come out with smoothout versions, because I think that would make these boots my dream boot. Super, super stoked about these boots. You are right to be excited, I think these are going to be one of their highest performers
Thank you, we've been looking for anatomical toe spacing without the completely flat foot beds. I like the heel look, and function. For those asking "oh this is cool but give me a barefoot version" are completely missing the point here.
the blacked out version is looking exactly like old denmark army boot and the only difference between them is that the african trooper has flesh side out toebox and counter cover
I’m happy with my black AR8s, but I’m going to get the BF Trooper too because my BF ARs are the best boots ever but I need a black pair in addition to brown and it might as well be the taller Trooper.
If you do another version please offer it in fully Roughout. I really like the boot, but don’t work in a trade and not a huge fan of the smooth over roughout.
Couldn't you release those a month ago? I just bought the black greasy Solovair derby a few days ago as I couldn't find appropriate black boot, and here it is now!
Besides the toe cap how does the upper differ from the AR8? I'd really like to see them side by side and really deep dive the differences. Also got any insider news on the 719?
The original african trooper video already did exactly this. They started with the AR8 on the barefoot last and sole, then they made changes to the upper pattern and he walked through all those steps. Yes they are very similar but they're not the exact same boot. Not to mention that there are only a couple options available for the AR8 on the US website. I see this as being a premium version of the AR8, since they added the premium selection of boots to their website. And I have nothing wrong with more variety from JG, I already have 5 pairs.

Gonna be honest this is probably the best collab so far from a product perspective. I think this will sell extremely well
Jim Green has quickly become my favorite boot maker, and collabs like this are only part of the reason.
Looks great. I wish you kept the toe cap though. That genuine leather toe cap sets JG apart and I like it on any boot that will see hard use.
Looks as if it has a thermoplastic toe puff also, which I prefer to leave off on my JG customs.
@@dbmail545 Yeah I can't tell but if these are meant for construction type work then I'm hoping they have a composite toe or steel toe.
I agree!

I have a pair in that camel/khaki color and they got much darker with treatment, like a caramel color.

Excited for Jim Green's even wider toe box barefoot last
Badass dude, you and Jim Green are the Dream team.
Can’t wait for this, looks great! Really looking forward to Jim Green’s moctoes as well.
I will love to see the African trooper but with the búfalo skin😍😍

That pair with the fudge learher and honey sole looks awesome. Hopefully it becomes a reality, i would buy that in a heartbeat!

Rough out, no toe cap, lug sole: very cool. Make the same boot with a zero-drop lug sole, and I'm in.
Think the toe lift would be a problem with that?
