I'm looking at a pair of Vibergs some point down the road. It would be great to see the engineers relasted and a follow-up video one or two years down the road similar to the Aldens.
You guys might as well learn from my sizing mistakes so here a bunch of info on how I’ve sized those brands I am a 10C on the brannock. I wear 10.5 in most sneakers. Most heritage boots I wear 9.5D Sagara Trailmasters, 43D, Morgan Last, custom measurements, first order from brand - little tight in the toes but 100% wearable. I catch myself not wearing them as often because of it but I still wear them 2-3 times a month. Aldens, 9.5C, Trubalance Last, no measurements, second order from brand - the uppers touch on all the eyelets so I can’t fully tighten. Still 100% wearable just a little floppy. Doesn’t really deter me from wearing them Wesco, 10D/9.5D, 9109 last, custom measurements, first order from brand - 10D way too big and uppers too big. Mostly wearable but very distracting because of the uppers being too big, I only wore them for a day or two before I decided to cut them in half. Nicks NDC, 9.5D, HNW last, custom measurements (I think), several orders from brand - fits perfectly but I have also worked with nicks a ton and have tried on 10-15 of their boots so I know the fit significantly better than the rest. Hope this helps y’all get your sizing better than me!
Dear @RoseAnvil (Weston), as I'm sure you've seen from my previous comment, I would like to highlight the ethical issues around shark leather. I'm pretty sure I've heard you say in previous videos, that one of the reasons you like cow leather, is because it's sustainable. Shark leather is not. I urge you to look at the scientific data on this. All shark populations are declining rapidly. This is backed up by scientific research and incontrovertible date. It's extremely harmful to ecosystems and communities of people around the world (for a variety of reasons that are too complex to get into here). Despite what these leather websites and suppliers tell you, there are currently no sustainable shark fishing practices and most of it is illegal. Some of the criminal organizations actually use slaves on their boats. It's horrific. This might not seem relevant but much of the "legal" stuff actually has illegal origins. This is the consensus of dozens of marine biologists, researchers and journalists. Many leather distributers disagree but they are misinformed and have misaligned incentives. There is no reason for fishing sharks. Nobody relies on them for food and they are a luxury item. Imagine how different this would be if you had lion skin boots! I'm pretty sure your channel would have been taken down by now. The crazy thing is that this is actually worse. The environmental impact of losing sharks will be catastrophically worse than losing lions. The only difference with sharks is that people just don't know about the problems I'm trying to highlight. I want to be clear that I'm a fan of all your channels and don't blame you in any way for buying these shoes. I also don't blame Bagus. I'm assuming that neither of you knew about these issues and that's why I'm trying to educate people. Here is some information that will hopefully help you to see where I'm coming from. -- The scientific consensus on this topic is in the following quotes but here's a quick summary incase you don't want to read it all. If we lose sharks (which we are currently on course to do) our oceans will be destroyed. This means no more fish to eat and any communities that rely on fishing will fall apart. This is a huge problem and I urge you to do your own research into it. Don't just take my word for it. - "shark leather (also known as shagreen) is not typically considered sustainable for several reasons. 1. Overfishing and Population Decline: Many shark species are threatened or endangered due to overfishing, often driven by the demand for shark fin soup and other products. Using shark skin for leather could contribute to this pressure, even if the leather is a byproduct of the food industry. 2. Ecosystem Impacts: Sharks play a crucial role in marine ecosystems, helping to control the populations of other species and maintain balance. A decline in shark numbers can have wide-reaching impacts on the health of these ecosystems. 3. Ethical Concerns: Sharks are often caught and killed in inhumane ways, such as finning, where the fins are cut off and the shark is thrown back into the ocean to die. 4. Lack of Regulation: The fishing and trade of many shark species are not well-regulated globally, making it difficult to ensure any shark leather product has been sourced in a sustainable way." -- "Sharks play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems as apex predators. If sharks were to go extinct, there could be significant ecological repercussions, which may include the following: 1. Trophic Cascade: A decline in shark populations can result in a trophic cascade, where changes at one trophic level (the sharks) can lead to changes at lower trophic levels (their prey and the organisms their prey eat, etc.). This can cause shifts in the types and abundance of other species in the ecosystem. 2. Predator-Prey Balance Disruption: Sharks often prey on the sick and weaker members of other fish populations, which can help to keep those populations healthier overall. Without sharks, these fish populations might grow, but they could become less healthy and more susceptible to disease. 3. Increase in Mid-Level Predators: The removal of sharks from an ecosystem could result in an increase in the number of mid-level predators, which can then cause a decline in the number of smaller herbivorous fish. These smaller fish are often important for controlling the growth of certain types of algae on coral reefs, and without them, the reefs could be at risk. 4. Commercial Fisheries Impact: Changes to fish and other marine species populations can also disrupt commercial fisheries. For instance, a decline in shellfish populations due to an overgrowth of their predators (which sharks would typically control) could have significant economic impacts. 5. Biodiversity Loss: Sharks are a diverse group of species, each playing a unique role in their ecosystem. Their loss would result in a decrease in marine biodiversity, potentially destabilizing marine ecosystems." ****SO TO SUM UP **** I would appreciate a response to this comment. At least an acknowledgment that you're now aware of the ethical issues and that you'll look into it. I think the responsible thing to do (especially for someone who's into sustainability such as your self) would be to update the description of this video with some more information on the topic. Ideally addressing it in a future video also. Like I said before, I do not in any way blame you for buying these shoes. But now that you're (hopefully) more informed on the topic, I do think you have a responsibility to share this information with your followers. I really do hope you'll do this and I look forward to hearing from you :)
J.D. Harmeyer.... that's who dude reminds me of. JD from Howard stern likes to talk about what kind of skinny Jean's he will pair with his boots. OMG...dude you got the whole room of people busting up.😂
Hey @RoseAnvil @ RoseAnvil2 Weston. I't's been 24 hours since I shared my concerns about this video and I still haven't gotten a response. I'm not asking for a lot. It's not like I'm asking you to take the video down or anything. I just want you to acknowledge the ethical concerns. I'm trying to be reasonable and fair here. So I'm happy to wait another 24 hours. But if I haven't heard from you then, I don't know what else I can do other than report the video. I REALLY don't want to do that. But if you're not going to acknowledge this issue then I don't see what other options I have.
I used to love sharks skin leather due to it begin 100% waterproof until I found out that stingray leather is more durable doesn’t deteriorate, degrade, fade, and fray. It’s a great leather if you want an exotic leather that can take a beating also it’s waterproof as well and don’t cost as much as shark skin leather is. I can now see why stingray leather was used in history because it was an exotic leather that can take a beating but also doesn’t require a lot of maintenance compared to shark skin and the standard leather that’s out there
Not in my experience. I have both and the sharkskin is holding up way better. Stingray tend to have those calcium beads fall off easily, specifically on the areas that crease near the ankles. It's also where the beads tend to be smaller. The vamp is fine tho, where most shoe/boot makers have the center-hide make it out of (where the beads run the largest), but I've seen some vintage ones where the beads get chipped at the toe. Also, stingray tend to stand out in a bad way. It looks feminine with how beady and sparkly it is, specially with the caviar finish. You'll get rude homophobic comments if you wear them in places where most people don't know anything about exotics.
Congrats on the pair and thank goodness they fit. Many of us know the pains of this hobby when ordering with new direct to consumer brands and the uncertainty of fit. Cheers!
Yeah. It's not a hobby for me. I just want a quality boot. I ordered the drifter 2.0 from whites and I'm crazy worried about the fit. Worried I didn't measure correctly and all that stuff and the anxiety of what do I do if it doesn't fit. Especially considering the wait time and all that. I have a feeling that this is just the beginning, because now I'm looking at Nicks and several other brands. It started with "oh, I'm tired of buying $200-$300 boots every 6 months or so, I just want to buy a boot that will last a decade" to "wow look at all these cool boots, I want more". For reference, I pretty much exclusively wear Thorogood boots right now and I love them. They are more comfortable than any shoe I wear, especially after break in. I can't imagine what a high end hand made boot is like. I will say that the soles on Thorogood boots do not last long at all. I'm hoping the White's I got will last much longer. Im excited and worried at the same time. Funny thing is, my last name is White. So not only has White's been around since 1853 and they still make boots the old school way, the guy who started it has the same last name as me. When I hear their story and how long they have been around and how they make them, it gives me goosebumps. That is something to be proud of.
Hey Rose Anvil dude, you deserve these boots and so much more. Thank you so much for informing consumers about a market that often borders "fraudulent". Please treat yourself more often, because you deserve it!!
Those boots look SWEEEEET! I’m glad they fit you! Well worth the 6 month wait. They look sharp in your black jeans, and I can definitely see you wearing those casually and a little more dressed up. You deserve to treat yourself more haha always solid content 💪🏽
Bagus was really great to work with. I generally like to let the artisan have a lot of input and influence on what they are making. I made the general choices and he had good suggestions on what would work and what wouldn't etc. He didn't let me make a bad decision basically. I have a pair of the Valiant in black shark skin lowers and natural Chromexcel uppers on the way. Looking forward to trying them on because he offered a customized pattern because of the way I wanted them to fit around my ankle / lower leg. Mine are skinny as well and was somewhat disappointed how Onderhoudes boots fit around my shin because the uppers touched.
Pair of crocket & jones ‘special order’ Islay boots…would suit your collection maybe? Though it will be hard to beat Viberg or Sagara’s…perhaps you can challenge them to it?
A great looking boot that could be worn everywhere .And NEVER look out of place. Not to fancy for the pub /BBQ/ bar, and could be worn to a 5 star anything. The last pair of good Italian leather dress boots I brought cost me almost a weeks wages and I had them for 20 years .They still looked good when I gave them away.
20:38 It's funny you say that since I've heard the way to make your boots break in properly is to lace them up as tight as you can, usually until both sides of the uppers are touching.
White's, here in Spokane, about 15 years ago, had sting ray leather boots for about 900 bucks. Wish I could have got those. I think they only made 100 of them. Love uniqueness
Love to hear about the Indonesian brands. I am in LOVE with a pair of Junkard boondockers I splurged on for myself, but I have hardly worn them yet because it's been far too hot out since I got them!
I'm realy love your sponcored segments, because I open so many cool things trough that part of your videos. That's nice that you guys try to choose sponcors on your prefers. And congrats with the pair!
Oh hey, its HeyDudes. They are my favorite casual shoes too. Just so breathable. I have a serious problem with feet sweat and allergy from the sweating, they just help so much with that soft sole and breathability.
I honestly think that a big problem is: ordering boots online…….I’ve ordered several pairs now, from various companies and it really seems to be a bit of a crap shoot whether or not they fit properly. I know this isn’t a popular opinion, among sellers especially, but in my experience it’s the biggest hurdle between getting a great fit and a crap fit. If possible, buy your boots from a store, and try them on.
By the end of this video I bet I’ll hear something along the lines of “yeah I waited 24 months for these and they don’t fit but it’s ok because it’s an Indonesian company and they don’t have the best communication so I took a gamble on the fit but it’s ok I understand they’re still really nice.
I have the same ankle issue. That said, WOW! Very cool boots. I think they will work with casual or dressy. As for shark skin, Im a watch collector and I love shark skin watch straps.
Glad something finaly fits well. You could try doing a few sets of weighted calf raises 3-4 per week to put some meat on those shins. Their pretty easy, take very little time, and you can do them anywhere, e.g. on a work break.
Bro, your body is literally built to be the best dressed dude in a tux. the slim style makes you look like a model. Boots are gorgeous. Love that my people are spreading culture along with it.
This could be an awesome video for Shark Week on the main channel talking about shark skin properties and how they differ from more traditional leathers
Miraculously I seem to have the same size feet as you, and the same aversion to pinched toes. For some boots, I can solve the narrow ankle problem by lacing around the boot, usually below the second from to eyelet. Thanks for the sizing information about Alden. I bought a pair of 10D boots from them in the Barrie last. Those fit well. I was afraid the Truebalance last would be too wide, and it sounds like that's true. Love the videos. Keep it up man.
I feel ya about the skinny ankles. Mine are smaller than my sister's ankles & she's only 5"3" & 100lbs. On top of that I've broken my ankles a few times & my feet are angled differently, so it's really hard to find footwear that fits both feet comfortably
id really love a look at the viberg 310. i just think its pretty special. it reminded me of the nail shank boot from kresote but not at pricey. i love the look of it being old fashioned but still classy.
I have tree trunk ankles and the uppers on LL Bean Maine Hunters could almost wrap around and tie in the back. It is definitely weird. I love the look of these shark boots, and they look extra dope with your pants rolled up in a high cuff 😁
What ya need is some of them sports sweatbands to put on under your main sock on your ankle to take up some of that empty space, so you don't have that issue as bad with your upper touching when laced.
I work in building maintenance so that means I cover all bases. Ladder work , floods , electrical, painting, pressure washing. Window washing, and I’ve worn out just about every major brand of American made boots. Red wing, Chippewas, Frye, Addison , Knapp , Danner , dr.Marten, etc wi. Haven’t tried any of the pacific nw style fireman boots. So if there’s any of these major brands that want an honest review of on the job site use hmu.
Way back in the day Sharkskin was pretty much poor man’s elephant in the western boot world. The changing availability of different leather means nothing stays the same. I can’t believe they didn’t deploy a calf skin top. Anything besides the very best quality shark would break you in before you break them in.
I REALLY hope to have a better experience with my custom Wesco Jobmasters than you had. I ordered them February '22 and am still waiting. Will be my last pair of custom Wesco boots if they don't absolutely knock them out of the park. Might have to give the Sagara a try.
Grants on the milestone Weston. Those boots are absolutely gorgeous and you really suit them. You look good with the narrow toe. It’s nonsense that you don’t look good with that style. My husband loves nice shoes and boots...on me 🤣
That's awesome I need a good new usa made sock I had purchased a bunch to save when you could still get usa made carhartt socks but now they are wearing out and I need to find the best usa made boot socks I can get to switch over too
I stopped buying those gerber knives because within 2 months i lost 5. Bought a cheap kershaw that fits in my side pocket perfectly. Makes you wonder if you need to oil sharkskin boots?
Maybe quality control should be a metric in boot grading? I'd be pissed if I waited a year for a pair of custom boots (or anything) and they didn't fit correctly or one was messed up. I mean for all the negatives of mass-produced footwear, they have more consistent sizing at least within the brands.
Bagus means Good/Great/Amazing, in Indonesian/Malay. You got the gus part right, but Ba is pronounced like you would say Baa for sheep. Or how a British person would say Bar, silent ish R. Or say Barn without the rn.
You should send those Vibergs back to get relasted. You don’t wear them much and you have a large rotation, so you won’t really miss them while there are away. It would also be better in the long run
And that way when he eventually passes them on to somebody, it’s a functional boot and not just a waste.
That and it would be another unboxing video! More future content!
I'm looking at a pair of Vibergs some point down the road. It would be great to see the engineers relasted and a follow-up video one or two years down the road similar to the Aldens.
Agreed
But wouldn't that cost a fortune? To have them re-lasted...cannot be cheap? Can it?

The last pair of good Italian leather dress boots I brought cost me almost a weeks wages and I had them for 20 years .They still looked good when I gave them away.
With how narrow the gap is, you should totally straight lace them. It would look so slick.
Great looking boot! BTW: Your editors do a fantastic job of incorporating b-roll and captioning. Congrats on getting custom boots that truly fit!
Man, I can't wait to see the Viberg update video! Those boots are soo beautiful. Funny how u were trying to cover them up.
20:38 It's funny you say that since I've heard the way to make your boots break in properly is to lace them up as tight as you can, usually until both sides of the uppers are touching.
If you can make both sides touch they don't fit properly.
White's, here in Spokane, about 15 years ago, had sting ray leather boots for about 900 bucks. Wish I could have got those. I think they only made 100 of them. Love uniqueness

I'm realy love your sponcored segments, because I open so many cool things trough that part of your videos. That's nice that you guys try to choose sponcors on your prefers. And congrats with the pair!
That's a quality boot. That would look good with most outfits, that boot oozes confidence.
These are amazing Weston! Congratulations on the milestone and keep up the great work.
Great show once again I'm addicted to your videos, each time I learn the arts of shoemaking. Please can you do Zamberlan boots?
Nice looking boot!!! Great job! More Grant Stone to compete with the expensive ones.
By the end of this video I bet I’ll hear something along the lines of “yeah I waited 24 months for these and they don’t fit but it’s ok because it’s an Indonesian company and they don’t have the best communication so I took a gamble on the fit but it’s ok I understand they’re still really nice.
Hahaha that’s my whole life with nice boots
Sagara has really good communication though. Better than half of the American brands tbh so no shade on Sagara
This comment didn’t age well haha
They look absolutely amazing on you!!
20:28 I feel your pain. I have Size 14 feet with the ankle size of a toddler 😅
I have the same ankle issue. That said, WOW! Very cool boots. I think they will work with casual or dressy. As for shark skin, Im a watch collector and I love shark skin watch straps.
Hello I am a watch collector as well and I am looking for some new straps where did you get your shark skin watch straps
I have the Sagara US Marine BoonDockers, in roughout Baddallasi leather, pretty nice boots, 6 months to get.
These boots are really nice. I like the style and cut. The shark skin gives it a unique look also
Congrats on 750k bud, we love what you do, so I'd say'you, you deserve those boots..🤙
Love them brother!!! The contrasting sole is totally on point!!
Glad something finaly fits well. You could try doing a few sets of weighted calf raises 3-4 per week to put some meat on those shins. Their pretty easy, take very little time, and you can do them anywhere, e.g. on a work break.
Those are badass. I'm not even a boot guy at all (I just love watching you cut stuff up) but I really want a pair of these now.
Bro, your body is literally built to be the best dressed dude in a tux. the slim style makes you look like a model. Boots are gorgeous. Love that my people are spreading culture along with it.
they are absolutely beautiful!
I'm not a huge fan of pointy boots either...but those look great with the "slimish" back denim. Not too pointy. Congrats!!
congratulations ! you have reach 750k subscribers ! great job !! 😃👍👍👍
The Kiltie plug happened right when I finished throwing in some of your no show kilties on my White’s Perrys lol
Thanks for both channels, very informative. Love the wild boots you get to show us, keep it up! Happy early 4th of July!
Cool boots, glad to see hey dudes coming soon. I'd love to see you cut a Chippewa work boot in half if you haven't.
This could be an awesome video for Shark Week on the main channel talking about shark skin properties and how they differ from more traditional leathers
That is one of the most beautiful boots I have ever seen
You’re lucky you got them long legs man! Boots look great on you.
These in particular look sweeeet 👍🏻
Man those are some of the nicest looking boots I've seen on the channel.
But where is the link for us to order us a pair of sharkskin boots?
Miraculously I seem to have the same size feet as you, and the same aversion to pinched toes. For some boots, I can solve the narrow ankle problem by lacing around the boot, usually below the second from to eyelet. Thanks for the sizing information about Alden. I bought a pair of 10D boots from them in the Barrie last. Those fit well. I was afraid the Truebalance last would be too wide, and it sounds like that's true. Love the videos. Keep it up man.
Genuinely the most amazing and stunning boots ive ever seen.
I've got a few casual boots, and the way I've always seen it doesn't matter what I wear if my shoes are nice it doesn't matter.
I feel ya about the skinny ankles. Mine are smaller than my sister's ankles & she's only 5"3" & 100lbs. On top of that I've broken my ankles a few times & my feet are angled differently, so it's really hard to find footwear that fits both feet comfortably
These unboxing videos are my favorite!
You got the jeans right but you want something more punk rock for the top. T shirt and an asymmetrical jacket would work for me.
Woah you cut sagaras in half? Thats ine i wanted to see...the Italian Hiker! Thats the one im in love with...
Good point about ankle fit. Considering the $$ it makes me want to be properly fitted in a showroom.
I like those camel city mill socks. I only have lightweight so far, but would have no problem buying thick socks for winter.
i have similar problem as you, i just put 2 or 3 layer suede long kilties to not ran out of tightness .
id really love a look at the viberg 310. i just think its pretty special. it reminded me of the nail shank boot from kresote but not at pricey. i love the look of it being old fashioned but still classy.
Really cool, Weston! For me, being a Dutch European, the more pointy lasts are not a problem. Perhaps because Indonesia is a former Dutch colony?
Looks great! Interesting too see such a unique leather for sure.
I had a pair of shark boots in school. 30 years later they are still going. They are the best wearing boots I ever had.
great looking boot, congrats Weston
These boots are so cool. Glad they fit you right.
i was talking with these guys for a while but i was too worried about size, but damn that trailmaster is beautiful
Dude. These look incredible.
Glad they fit, Pointy is good , it grows on you.
Be awesome to see you go out to the Allen Edmonds Factory and make a shell cordovan with the craftsman....
Thumbs up for both Camel City Mill socks (wearing them as I type) and a beautiful pair of boots!
FOOMP!
The Gerber is perfect for your boot pocket.
Sagara’s boxing is just like Grant Stone’s - very elegant. Sharp boots!
Bagus means nice, good, fine, handsome in Javanese / Malay. Sagara boots are Bagus! They look better on you than you may think.
Stunning and they look great on you
They look bloody good on ya mate 👍 I always think my ankles are too skinny looking down but its just perspective messing with the head....
If Nick’s ever does anything in the future with kangaroo, I’m in.
The laces are close together, I think the kilties will help a little.
Damn these are good looking boots! Very sharp!
Grants on the milestone Weston. Those boots are absolutely gorgeous and you really suit them. You look good with the narrow toe. It’s nonsense that you don’t look good with that style. My husband loves nice shoes and boots...on me 🤣
Try the *Classic Levi's* 505 Strait Leg (dark denim ) and or the *Classic Levi's* 501 Jeans (dark denim) with your new *Shark* 🦈 *Skin* *Boots* 👍🏻
I think these would look slick with your nobleman's ecru pants
Exciting boot. One of a kind. Thank you!
thats a fine looking pair of boots! right up my alley.
Awesome video man🌊
I assume shark hide must be descaled first. The scales are what make the classic "layered armor" of the shark, but maybe I'm wrong.
Love the gusseted tongue - my cordovan Indy’s tongue slides all over the place , very frustrating
Bagus means Good/Great/Amazing, in Indonesian/Malay.
You got the gus part right, but Ba is pronounced like you would say Baa for sheep.
Or how a British person would say Bar, silent ish R.
Or say Barn without the rn.
OMG those boots are gorgeous
