"Old Home Week or Old Home Day is a practice that originated in the New England region of the United States similar to a harvest holiday or festival. In its beginning in the 19th-20th century it involved a municipal effort to invite former residents of a village, town, or city-usually individuals who grew up in the municipality as children and moved elsewhere in adulthood-to visit the "Old Home", the parental household and home town. Some municipalities celebrate the holiday annually, while others celebrate it every few years."

On one of those days that I had nothing to do and nowhere to be, I watched “The Iceman,” “Wristcutters: A Love Story,” and “Kill the Irishman”.
A few days later, I tried to reflect on the three and just couldn’t do it. All I could wonder about was, “Is this what Tom Waits has nightmares about? Like if Disney buys Anti Records? It’s all a cold, heartless gray blur and nothing makes sense?”

From Wikipedia - "Old Home Week is a town event held every 10 years. It is best described as a town reunion, a celebration of [a place's] citizens, past, present and future, and a honoring of its history. Events traditionally include a parade, a town dinner, class and family reunions and tours of local points of interest."

Growing up I only ever heard my grandparents use the term "Old home week," typically after seeing a bunch of their friends while out. Since my grandparents were old, as were their friends, I took it to mean it's the week when the old folks home just lets all the elderly wonder about willy nilly. I haven't thought about that phrase in years.

I watched "The Iceman" like a year ago and I thought it was pretty good. Like a B-, but as always Michael Shannon is the best part of the film. It's funny, I watched the episode of "Room 104" that he was in last night, then I watch this today and here's good old Shannon again! I won't ever tire of that man. His craft is a wonder. I loved him in "Revolutionary Road". The scene he was in is pretty much all I even remember of that movie.

SEEN IT? Shadow of a Doubt.
Hitchock's masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. Sure there are some flaws, but the dialogue is excellent, Wright and Cotten give captivating performances, and some of the subtext is unexpectedly dark - especially for the time. I'm sure Craig will appreciate it, given a film in his top 5 surely must've taken a heap of inspiration from it.

Hey guys great episode :) For Seen It, Downfall and Beyond the Mat. Downfall is a German movie about the last days of ww2 in Europe and Hitler's life. Now most famous for the internet parodies but Bruno Ganz gives an amazing performance and the whole movie is breathtakingly tense and profoundly sad. Beyond the Mat is a behind the scenes documentary about wrestling. Kinda clunky in parts (has some emotionally manipulative editing and cheesy music) but a fascinating and sympathetic look into a hidden and little understood sub culture. Would love to hear your thoughts on both. Also you've said before that some movies are too long for the show. What's the longest movie you'll watch?

This movie was bullshit, the real iceman was not a loving husband, he would regularly beat his wife, she once got pregnant and be beat her up so she'd lose it, the only person he really loved was his first daughter, he once told her if he had to kill her he'd be sad, he only knew killing and he did it well, this movie tries to paint him in a sympathetic light and it sucks, Shannon did an amazing job tho, I will say that.

While it was interesting the first couple of minutes with the set being just a flat stage I thoroughly hated the rest of it! But I watched it to the end because I thought I had to learn to like movies like that now that I was a film student. So it's a relief to see that you guys also hated it and that I was right to think it was pretentious and horrible! It has a rather satisfying climax though.
