    Huxley's song had a pretty important point, if you keep in mind it's a movie for kids. The first meeting shows the villain just wants to own everything, which is a pretty understandable idea for kids, and more importantly depicts it as a really bad trait. The song evolves the idea and shows the deeper motivation for him wanting everything is so nobody else can have anything, which may seem trite or insignificantly subtle, but to a little kid's mind I think that could be quite the hard-hitting concept that really shows why a greedy mindset is bad. I bet this movie prevented or cut short the "MINE" phase in a lot of children.

    There's something hysterical about watching two grown men view a children's movie and being surprisingly into it.

    What made "Follow That Bird" work is because it felt like the world of "Sesame Street" brought into the cinematic world while still staying true to the charm of "Sesame Street", with tons of fan service including an instrumental rendition of "Sunny Days", and while Big Bird was the focus, the other characters got a good chance to shine on the big screen. It also knew what elements of the show to keep out such as characters talking directly to the audience, so that way the film could have a more traditional film structure with a decent flowing narrative. "Elmo In Grouchland" meanwhile feels like one of those direct to VHS "Sesame Street" spinoff projects that somehow got got dumped onto the big screen at the last minute. Not only that but while Elmo may be very lovable, he also has what you might call the Mater curse, where he's fine as a supporting character or as the focus of an episode, he's not interesting enough to sustain 90 minutes. Not only that but its narrative wanted to replicate something like "The Muppet Movie" where Ernie and Bert constantly interrupt the movie to break the 4th wall, but here they don't say anything clever and just state the painfully obvious. Not only that but even Elmo just feels the need to slow the movie's barely above 60 minute run time down to a crawl to reenact leftover material from the "Elmo's World" segment on "Sesame Street". And with news of a new "Sesame Street" movie being in the works, lets just hope it follows the production philosophy that "Follow That Bird" laid out, and learn from the mistakes made by "Elmo in Grouchland".

      @supermariof0521 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dunno. I mean sure there was a bigger focus on Elmo during the late 90's/early 2000's but he didn't completely erase anyone. They still got episodes to themselves. If anything, all Elmo did was replace Big Bird as "Sesame Street's" mascot.

    So, not to age myself here, but this was a film that I watched dozens of times when I was about Lorenzo’s age. (My youth disgusts me as well.) Watching this episode was like having a Nam flashback. It just all came flooding back to me. I will say, watching Patinkin’s delivery of the ‘West Side Story’ line made me laugh for about five minutes, so this movie has that going for it.

    2:30 Von is german, Van is Dutch. It means "from" and was originally a marker of nobility and denoted the place the family came from. So Count Von Count means he is the count who came from Count, meaning in the Sesame street canon there is a place named Count.

    Is it just me or is this movie not completely awful? I mean, it has problems, as Matt and Craig pointed out (the biggest one being too many characters with nothing to do), but the green screen is okay, the puppeteering is quite good, and (unlike Matt) I actually think the songs a decent. Mandy Patinkin's singing sent shivers down my spine, he's so good. When it came out I was pre-occupied with seeing the South Park movie (I was 16 at the time, so obviously), this one passed me by. Now that I have a little niece, maybe I'll show this one to her, it'll be a nice double feature with Follow That Bird.

    I think Manos: The Hands of Fate is a really interesting bad movie because of the creativity of it. I really would like to see elements of that film put into a competent movie. The Master and Torgo are actually really memorable and, dare I say it, iconic figures, if not from the writing, then the costumes and performances.

    I was too young for Mystery Science Theater, but I have a deep appreciation for Rifftrax after first learning of its existence through it being mentioned in a Seen It long ago. I've watched Manos an unsettling number of times, as it was one of their earliest live performances, and one thing that sticks out in viewing is that absolutely no scenes in the movie logically form any sort of progression or connection to what happens in any future scene. It honestly puts Hal Warren on the Mt. Rushmore of bad movies to me, with Ed Wood, David Giancola, and Tommy Wiseau.

    There's a Gameboy game for this movie. And it's the most basic, short game you'll ever see. It's all of 10 minutes long if you're slow. Look up a playthrough if you're curious how bad it is. It's basically an insult to kids.

    Was that Kermit-less? Hey, how about a movie rental store next to a convenience store with a hockey rink on the roof!

      By the time Elmo became a big character, Kermit was rarely if ever on Sesame Street any more. Even when I watched (pre Elmo) I don't remember Kermit being on SS all that much, except for a few skits like "The Great London Frog" and some with Grover, like Tooth Checker. I figure that he featured less as they wanted to put Kermit more firmly in Muppet Show stuff and less in SS, which already had plenty of characters.
