William Castle is an absolute treasure. It's crazy to think that the same guy who made The Tingler and House on Haunted Hill went to on produce Rosemary's Baby.
Heard a great story that at one theater the seats for "Tingler" were wired while "The Nun's Story" was still playing, resulting in a group of unsuspecting, proper ladies at a "Story" matinee getting more to buzz about than the film.
it was awesome to see another Castle film on here. Any movie with Vincent Price is delightful. And man, that Tingler is actually kinda creepy when you see it. I mean, it's obviously a puppet, but it looks like a centipede and I have a raging phobia of centipedes, so....
One of your funniest episodes for me, good gags, good dissection afterwards too. The Tingler makes me think of a what a silly b movie Cronenberg influence might look like. MANT!
LOVE THE TINGLER!!! As a teenager, I would introduce this film to friends and family and recreated the William Castle gimmick by watching said film in the dark and wave a large lobster toy affront of their faces during the theater attack sequences! Worked every time!
Funny you should mention Joe Dante in this episode. In 1968 Dante put together a seven and a half hour compilation of segments of films, commercials, trailers, etc. It was called THE MOVIE ORGY. I attended a screening in the Student Union Ballroom at the University of Nebraska in 1970. This version featured THE TINGLER as well as COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL and many others intercut in what today might be called a mash-up. This was the greatest movie experience in my life. It was also the first time I experienced the effects of marijuana. Check it out!
Thank you for calling Gremlins a Christmas movie, Matt! I've gotten into countless arguments with friends and family about how it's not a movie to watch around Christmas. As far as I'm concerned, this argument is now settled.
I love this film! And as far as the fatherly advice about monsters, a friend of my had a great idea. They are Dr. Who fans and gave their child a sonic screwdriver to "scan" the room and remove all the monsters. It's awesome.
I watched this movie on AMC when I was maybe 12 or 13 and it kind of actually scared the shit out of me. It's one of those movies where it's gimmick only works once though. I've tried to watch it a few times since but at least for me the scares aren't there anymore.
I saw this movie back in high school, and the part I remember best is when the Tingler is being pulled along the floor, flips over onto its back, but is still pulled along while sliding upside down. Surprisingly they didn't mention that, so I'm starting to worry if I made that whole thing up. I sure hope not.
I remember seeing this A LONG TIME AGO. Scared the wee out of 10 year old me. Also, I have a screenshot of VP reading a pamphlet about "acid" from this movie at work. Not too many people get it.
Deaf and dumb simply meant she couldn't hear or speak. Dumb was originally a common term for silent or mute. It was not meant to be offensive, merely descriptive, but has since evolved such connotations as dumb later also came to mean stupid or incapable of learning (now the most common use in modern English).
6:15 That sounds like the theme to Vertigo (1958), which came out just the year before The Tingler (1959). I wonder how much William Castle was influenced by Alfred Hitchcock, especially since Hitchcock would also come out to introduce his suspense films during his specials.
Wasn't Scream actually meant to be somewhat of a parody of horror/slasher flicks? That's why it ended up being called Scream. And why there are characters who talk about slasher movies.
It was both. There’s tons of slashers that are mortal people in masks or unseen or whatever. I mean you could just as easily posit that most slasher films are murder mysteries.
They used to show The Tingler with wired up seats at the Cinefamily in LA every Halloween. I never got a chance to go and now the place is gone because, like everything in 2017, the dudes running it were creepy and abusive.
Great movie, The Tingler, with the always reliable Vincent Price in the lead. By the way, what do you think of the "nordic noir" trend , that has been going on for some time? Examples would be films like The Snowman (2017) and The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018), but to me they are both borderline turkeys. If you have seen them, what did you think?
Premiere videos suck, also a lot of controversy about them on TH-cam, apparently your video gets buried after it premiered, and the views are super low. There are also some people who dislike your video before it even premieres. I wasn't one of them though. Love you guys.
I wonder what you though about Avengers: Infinity War. I don't know if you watched it, but it was such a huge worldwide event. I don't think there's ever really been anything like this before, the closest thing I can imagine would be Empire Strikes Back. We're still technically in that event too, since it's not over until Avengers 4
It shows what a good idea man Castle was that he incorporated bright red blood into a black and white movie, and shows what a bad director he is that he showed the red water running into the sink first, instead of the tub full of blood first.
Great video as always 👍This movie reminds me of "Matinee" Seen It?.... One last thing you guys need to collab with "RedLetterMedia Half In The Bag" that would be damn good. 🤘🏽
The preview thing popped up at least 2 hours before the video was available to watch, it’s not the biggest deal in the world I just don’t like seeing what looks like a thumbnail for a new video in my sub-box only to click on it and have it say the video is coming out later. I still enjoyed the video though.
Last House on the Left attempts a lot of comedy but it falls completely flat because of the poor execution and because it’s so out of left field (no pun intended) considering the things that we see right before
This fucking premier thing is so annoying, I want to watch a video when I click on a video. No shade on you guys here, gotta try something to know if it's any good; all my ire is youtube bound.

That’s funny.
The splashes of color here really do stand out in the most amazing way since it's rarely used.
The idea of fear itself manifesting as a physical creature and all the pseudo science really reminded me of early Cronenberg
That’s a good insight.
Omg Matt that is good parenting advice. I’m using that if I have one
i'm using craigs right now :)

I really think that Vincent Price never made a movie that wasn't at least entertaining.
24:23 Rest In Peace dear Ernesto.
Thanks friend.
+BlameSociety No problem guys. We all loved Ernesto.
I thought Craig was dressed up as Tingle.
Jokes and banter were really on point in this episode. Great episode!
Brilliant :D

No doubt,it’s a Christmas movie.

That’s a great idea.
this is my favorite Castle flick...so glad you guys did this one...
It all makes sense now. Jon Waters modeled his signature mustache after Vincent Price's because he is such a fan of this movie!

That color in a b & w movie was interesting
Great costumes, and the spooky intro card is really fun too!
It should have been on the last episode too, but I forgot. The ol' memory is going.
I remember watching this on Svengoolie.
I reallly can't tell if Craig actually jumped at 8:55 or if it was joke ?
"Hands off, Kavanaugh!" Hahaha.
hahahaha orange man bad
Kavanaugh's orange?
Yes

Hm, I don't remember that.
Tingler is that not a dating app ???
Cheesy as this movie was, it had some very interesting theories about how fear manifests itself in the human body.
It's totally plausible.
I remember seeing this A LONG TIME AGO. Scared the wee out of 10 year old me. Also, I have a screenshot of VP reading a pamphlet about "acid" from this movie at work. Not too many people get it.
Wow, thanks Matt. Now my niece wants to be an "Au-topsist" when she grows up...
Love seeing you two in costume! I have to finish my costume, ghostbusters jumpsuit and proton pack.
I'm not going to defend Josh Hartnett's career but he was good in LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN...seen it?
Woot woot! Shoutout to Fresno!
23:15 so funny, I feel EXACTLY the same way when I hear that song
Psychosomatic blackout is your phrase for today, kids.
Deaf and dumb simply meant she couldn't hear or speak. Dumb was originally a common term for silent or mute. It was not meant to be offensive, merely descriptive, but has since evolved such connotations as dumb later also came to mean stupid or incapable of learning (now the most common use in modern English).
"..arm of some sort of BugBear." Nice.
Happy Halloween
A movie where Vincent price trips on acid 😂 amazing
What are you talking about Matt? The cops in LHOTL are a hoot!
Fan from Fresno!

@ 12:42 I can't believe his wife wanted to celebrate the fact that her husband had finally "found the tingler", and you guys just left it alone ;)
This flick gave me the creeps when I was young.
Great episode, boys! One of your funniest ones in a while!
Watching Vincent comes with a price.
If you choose not to watch Vincent you pay double the price.
Scream wasn't a Horror Movie but a Murder Mystery in a Slasher Flick.. Change My Mind
Slasher flick = horror movie does it not?
@@blamesocietyfilms but dont horror movies usually have a monster? Freddy Jason Pinhead Dracula Wolfman ETC.. Ghostface was still a man in a mask.
Wasn't Scream actually meant to be somewhat of a parody of horror/slasher flicks? That's why it ended up being called Scream. And why there are characters who talk about slasher movies.
It was both. There’s tons of slashers that are mortal people in masks or unseen or whatever. I mean you could just as easily posit that most slasher films are murder mysteries.
oh yes. vincent price. pure old school baddie.
Seen it? Prometheus?
They used to show The Tingler with wired up seats at the Cinefamily in LA every Halloween. I never got a chance to go and now the place is gone because, like everything in 2017, the dudes running it were creepy and abusive.
There's a "horror framework" employed in the movie in case you didn't know.
You guys already talked about Gremlins on Seen it.
Yeah. Pretty much exactly two years ago. The ol' memory is going.
i'm not even going to ask if you've seen it... what do you guys think of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rami Malek?
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, KEEP SCREAMING!!
Say fellas, have you seen the Sam Raimi flick THE QUICK AND THE DEAD?
I have
Great movie, The Tingler, with the always reliable Vincent Price in the lead.
By the way, what do you think of the "nordic noir" trend , that has been going on for some time? Examples would be films like The Snowman (2017) and The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018), but to me they are both borderline turkeys. If you have seen them, what did you think?
Edgar Allan Poe visible in the background behind Matt! Do I win something?
Who would win, the Tingler or Silence (from the Great Silence)?!
We all know what Matt would say to his child..
It begins with "No", and ends with "search your feelings; you know it to be true!"
Premiere videos suck, also a lot of controversy about them on TH-cam, apparently your video gets buried after it premiered, and the views are super low. There are also some people who dislike your video before it even premieres. I wasn't one of them though. Love you guys.
I just hate getting cock blocked thinking I'm about to watch the video and I cant :(
Well, how about we all come back to watch this video again when it becomes available.
I suppose November could be War Movie month.
Wow, so people have been goofing on old movies since forever.
I couldn't agree less

I should've waited till the video ended with that seen it lol
Seen it: anything by von Trier?????
Seen it: Godzilla(1954). The birth of the king of all monsters.
Wait a gorram minute. I know Castle directed MR. SARDONICUS, but what was the other movie he directed that these two jokesters watched?
Did´nt they say that he has "appeared" on the show?... Anyway.... They have watched "Shampoo" in wich he is acting. :)
That solves the mystery.
Noirevember?
Why does this movie have Vertigo music in it if it's not a hitchcock film?
The LSD nightmare or what ever was great. but it went down hill with the cute lobster thing.
Mmh, yay!
To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, The Birdcage, and Grumpy Old Men. The 3 best comedies ever made. Seen 'em?
God I hate premiere videos it just gets my hopes up and then I have to wait however many hours for the video to actually show up
Hours? Why do you have to wait hours?
The preview thing popped up at least 2 hours before the video was available to watch, it’s not the biggest deal in the world I just don’t like seeing what looks like a thumbnail for a new video in my sub-box only to click on it and have it say the video is coming out later. I still enjoyed the video though.
Oh right, I see.
They kinda clutter the Subs page too.
Hey matt you need to play nightmare 2 and 4 #thrillme #indulgeme
