I been in this area numerous times and would never have discovered that Fish'n chip place without this video.
Two places in CM you want to check out if you haven't already, Chef Tao in old town and Beast Burger in Nimman.
It's a great Fish and Chips. Beast Burger is ok, but better burger joints around now.
@@WalkAboutWayne yeah Beast Burger's best offering is the Texas BBQ burger, the standard cheeseburger is a bit bland. Do check out Chef Tao's restaurant in old town, really nice take on traditional thai dishes.
Generally, I think an upscale dish of foreign or Thai food will cost you around 350 thb. no matter where you decide to level up your dining a notch or three.

Real fish and chips outside of the UK. There’s hope! Seriously I’d be in there several times a week if I was in Chiang Mai. Right next to the weed shop as well, plus served by a lovely Myanmar lady. Total win 😊
Large fish n chips is about £10-£12 here in Leicester so £7 is a decent deal too.

That's near the apartment my daughter and I stayed in during my first trip to Chiang Mai in 2018. I love that area! I'll eat here the next time I'm in town, definitely, it looked great. 🤤

It's a great place. Burning has arrived, yes. Some days are worse than others at the minute. I've had a few days where it's affected me. The worst is still to come.

Wow .. it even looks like a Brit F&C shop with the colours and style. The fish looked spot on and the chips to my choice of size too. Our local chippy is 500B (£11.25) for cod & chips or 380B (£8.50) for Haddock & chips. Haddock become my favourite now 😜😎👍

Looks Aroi Mak 😋. I just had a plate of fish & chips this afternoon for lunch on California. I need the one in Thailand is much better! I like the fish to be crispy on the outside and fluffy and shoddy inside. The batter should have a pancake batter consistency. The chips are good when they’re crispy on the outside with a slight flexibility 😂

Had fish and chips here in BC Canada last week and it was $28.00 - 2 pieces of Cod, but i think your 1 piece was as much as my 2. (Mine were thin).

It's about $16.50 pounds. That would be the price above including tax I guess. You can get better value that that, but price comparisons between countries don't really tell much. The fish and chips is probably a good value that he had.
Considering you can get a condo in Chang Mai for $600 CAD a month easily, and you would have to pay $2600-$3000 CAD to get one in Vancouver, if you could find one.

WTF! What's the air quality like in CM right now Wayne? Looks okay. It's stinking hot over here in HCMC.

I love fish and chips but never found a decent fish and chips any where on my Thai travels. Most places seem to do that cheap basa fish which I do not like so great to see cod and haddock on a menu.

I like Chiang Mai, but I have been staying inside most days this week for my health, because of the smoke. Had a sore throat for days after Chinese New Year, that was a bad day for it. Will be heading to Pattaya area in March.

You mentioned it was closed when you first went - I went last night - and again closed on a Saturday night. How long will it remain open if it keeps closing!!
Yes, it was closed yesterday due to sickness. Gaz the owner replied here to someone else who went yesterday. Hopefully they are open today. The Facebook page (found in the description) will have up to date news. I forgot to mention that it's closed on Monday's also .
Sorry Steve it was a last minute thing staff called in sick and not much we can do about that we are back open today and business is brisk Wayne came on a monday which we are always closed.
We will now start training an additional emplyeee to hopefully avoid a repeat as I am a stickler for being open when we say we are and as the owner of Wild Hog Saloon we have been like that for almost 7 years Open at 11am close 10pm

The look on your face said it all. Happy for ya mate👍. And what you said about eating Thai food all the time was exactly what a Thai lady friend who had a Thai Restaurant in the U.S. said. She used to work for Japanese elevator company office in Korea, and when a friend who broke up with one of her Thai Friends said he was thinking about marrying a Korean he was dating. My Thai lady friend asked him:
"Do you like Korean food enough to eat it every day for the rest of your life? Because that's life with the Korean girl, you are going to have to eat Korean food EVERY DAY. I'm Thai and I don't like Thai food all the time. At least with a Thai or Japanese girl you're going to get some verity, and maybe some America food once in a while."
The biggest complication I had with that Thai Lady was that she was such an outstanding cook I got spoiled and fat. I stuck with her longer than I should have because she spoiled me with the food, and while I was finally happy to be separated, I went through serious food withdraws for quite a while, so you might want to watch out for the ones who keep you connected to their kitchen.

We have a couple of English themed restaurants here in my town in the midwestern U.S. and both have fish and chips that don't look as good as those and they both are $20, so that is a really good deal by comparison.

The thing I miss about cod and chips is being able to walk into the chippy and the cod was ready cooked in the warmer, which meant the oil had well drained out, you didn't have to wait and you could pick the one you wanted. Can't have it all.

Yes there is a well known chippy here but it's more like a restaurant version with chunky chips and the batter not the way I remember, and to be honest not for me.

You get what you pay for mate there are a million places selling fish and chips here in Chiang Mai even as low as 139 baht but its 139 baht fish and chips. Everything at the Chippy at the Gate is top quality proper fish spot on chips NOT FROZEN hand cut and just like back home you wont find another place in Chiang mai that offers this and that is the cost and worth every penny so we are told.
Nice review Wayne but 365 is a carve up. Plenty of places you can get the same meal for 220. Anyway who cares it looked awesome!!!

Yeah sorry mate there is NO WHERE you can get this for 220 plenty of cheaper places for sure offering local dory but no way they are serving cod or Haddock for that price closest is OMG at 325 I think it is then there is the really el cheapo Gheko Garden they say its cod for 139 baht I think it is and thats the great thing there is a budget to fit everyone

I've had decent Fish n chips at Red Lion on Loi Kroh Road, near the night bazzar.
I have heard people say it's good in the Red Lion. I've never been in there yet. Chippy at the Gate is top notch! 👍
Frozen chips and poor quality fish, been there eaten it, now where near as good as the Chippy, good quality fish costs! Chips are hand cut as well.
