- Join me on my journey to discover Jomtien, Pattaya's more relaxed counterpart to the bustling city! Are the rumors true? Is Jomtien really a more relaxed getaway compared to the vibrant energy of Pattaya?
In this video, I dive into my very first impressions of Jomtien Beach. I'll share my very early thoughts as I explore this renowned area for the first time.

That blokes wig was a Bobby dazzler on the bus 😅😅
Couldn't take my eyes off of it 😂
He was so funny. He started asking me about being a vlogger off camera.
Hahaha
I’m in stitches 😂😂😂😂😂
@@MoaningoldscotsmanI had to have another look 😂😂
The gaping mouth of the older man on the bus sums up Pattaya perfectly.
Hahaha, I wish I interviewed him.
Riding the baht bus with Engelbert Humperdinck very cool. Glad you enjoyed Jomtien I was there on Sunday
He was a right character 🤣🤣
Nice, sharing a baht bus with Les Dawson
He was funny AF 🤣
I live here in Jomtienfor the past year, The Rivera Jomtien Condo. I enjoy this city, plenty of events and restaurants.
any condos free? 1 year lease
google renthai pattaya, great agent got me the low price of 16,000 a month even during high season. @@SoldierTrading
Nice! Good to hear from someone who lives here. Thanks for the info.
Lmao that guys syrup on the baht bus is amazing 😂
Where’d you book that hotel at 600 baht per night btw Wayne?
That guy was so funny 🤣. I got the room on booking..com mate. I think the total was 640 a night. I booked it last minute though from Rayong, the day before.
@@WalkAboutWayne cheers for the info Wayne 👍🏼
Mate, the guy behind you on the baht bus reminded me of Steptoe from the tv series "Steaptoe and Son" 😂.
🤣🤣 Haroooooold 🤣. He was obsessed with the camera, couldn't stop staring.
You might end up like him one day who knows. Lol 😊
Pattaya is littered with the world's saddest losers
@@allangreenley9901 I hope so 😂
Been living in Thailand for 17 years, 6 on Samui, 3 in Chiang Mai and the rest in Pattaya. It's a great place to live as long as you live on the east side where all the expats are (The Darkside), great bars, restaurants, schools, parks, markets etc. We only go into town to shop or have a mooch about. Looking at Pattaya city and Jomtien is a waste for people looking to live here long term, those areas are for tourists and oil workers that come and go on tourist visas, they don't represent Pattaya as whole by a long shot. I much prefer living here to Samui or Chiang Mai, everything I want is within 10 or 15 minutes reach, it's set up for western expats. Plus the air is way cleaner than CM all year round and we don't have to deal with quite so many elephant pant wearing pseudo-hippies. BTW, prices are way cheaper on the East side of town over the railway, bars, food, everything.
so much rubbish talked about Pattaya , the dark side is a boring shit hole,
Excellent comment, thanks for the heads up. I'm in Chiang Rai and searching for new places to go in March and April. And frankly the "darkside" is like a living hell for me, no more drunks and rude people for me.
@@ewanconnor1403 You sound like a clueless tourist.
@@davidpowell3469 wongamat the best area, no bars , beautiful beach and a short cab ride to the city ..
Yes mate, if I lived here I would move out in the suburbs of the city more. As long as your happy mate, we all like different things. I could probably live in Rayong or outskirts of Pattaya.
Not sure about the better air all year round though mate.
Cheers
Absolutely well done mate, you are about the only English blogger who can pronounce Jomtien. All the others piss me off
It's probably the only thing I can pronounce though mate 🤣. Cheers
The dude with the bad hair 🤣.... Elvis is alive!!!😎
That guy is a celebrity now 🤣. He was so funny.
A man after my own heart - no bikes. The baht buses are phenomenal!
Yes, I've realized I don't really need a bike here.
Beautiful place
👍👍
We went twice to BKK And Pattaya…just too hot n humid. If we lived there we would hide out in the air con all day, but we like to be out n about. Next time going to check out CM to see if it would be cool enough.
If not we may try Dalat or Baguio City.
Great video !
Yes, the heat and humidity is more down here. Chiang Mai is hotter, but as someone else mentioned on here, it's dry heat in Chiang Mai.
In Phuket loved to have met u ah well great work
I might be in Phuket one day mate. Thanks.
In case you're planning to stay more days, I would suggest you rent a bike and drive to "Viharn Sien" and its surrounding. It's a nice and huge martial art museum / palace. I'm sure you'd like it. Cheers.
I won't be here that long buddy, moving on 👍

Hey Bret, it was great to meet you buddy. I found that market, it was really good. Nice one.
Another great walkabout thanks Wayne .there’s plenty more to see in Jomtien . Very brave walking back . Ear plugs are a good option with all noisy bikes 🚴
Yes mate, only a quick visit. I was soaked right through from walking back.
I really enjoy jomtien,, Pattaya is to crazy for me!
Yes, I preferred Jomtien 👍
Good on ya mate.
Cheers John mate.
Another nice video, glad you liked Jomtien. I cant believe you walked all the way to Pattaya... legend! If you go back to Jomtien, check out Thai food good taste restaurant. Lovely family serving amazing food and just off beach road near nirvana hotel. 😊
Thanks! Yes, I walked all the way back, I was sweating buckets ,🤣
Just got in from shoveling snow-7c you made the right decision moving to Thailand .Cheers👍
This has given me the reality check I needed. I'll put off that trip home, for a little longer 🤣
Once you hit the beach plast the sign you were walking towards & in Pratumak, Jomtien and the soi bars were the other way 😉
Oh well, it said it on the sign, so that's good enough for me 🤣
@@WalkAboutWayne I’ve never been Chang mai, need to research your videos as I plan to
The inn town hotel across the road has a roof top pool. It used to be the same owners as your ome. Go and ask if you can take a look. Great views up there too👍🏻
Arrrgh man, that place sounds good .
@@WalkAboutWayne It is budget and pretty.old. I stay there sometimes when funds are getting low😁
Been living Jomtien past 18 months . Lot quieter than central pattaya. still close enough by baht bus to get too(not walk 555)
It wasn't technically Jomtien beach you walked along as u passed the police box. Its called Dongtan beach .
You ended up in Pratunmak walking up soi 5.
Couple kms up further along if u stayed on baht bus , Jomtien beach it's a lot wider. Thats where they have the music festivals and other water events
Yes, I wish I walked the other way for a while. It looked alot quieter down this way though. Cheers mate.
Good video, Wayne. Any idea on what kind of budget would be necessary for a week in Pattaya? I'm looking to travel to Thailand later in the year and trying to figure out my budget. My plan would be Bangkok for 3 days, then travel north for a week and then to Pattaya for a week. I don't drink or smoke. I would like to have a fun time, but no idea what kind of budget would be good there. I hear different numbers, ranging from 5,000 baht per day to 10,000 to 15,000 baht per day if you want a crazy time.
Cheers buddy! I'm probably not the best to ask about Pattaya budget mate. I've only been here a few days. The budgets here could range from all sorts. I'm sure a Pattaya regular will give some info on this comment. Cheers
I've never spent anything close to 35,000 in a week - I'd be disappointed to spend 20,000. But if you're one for the girls, luxury accommodation, posh eateries and taxis, it will be expensive.
If you’re not drinking, 5000THB is plenty to see you through a day - even with action! Drinks for the girls in their bars and shots etc is where it gets silly. Just keep your head about you. But if you’re not drinking I don’t see how you dent 5k/day pal
Looking good WW , Jontiem offers less chaos - the boy from the UK survives Pattaya 🤩 - Thanks Wayne ✔️😎👍👋🙏
I survived it mate, time to move on now though. Cheers Ant 👍
My first night in Chang Mai tonight
Nice one Colin, She's a special city, my girl. Look after her until I get back mate.
No baht bus from the beach and foot of Pratumnak Soi 5 up past the Big Buddha and down past the Pattaya City sign & park.Take about 40 minutes on foot.
👌👌👌
Eayne... Glad you took your dad along, and gave him your seat.
🤣🤣🤣
You always walk this much? Even in Chiang Mai? It's great, I love to walk too, the best exercise.
Not this much normally. I usually have a bike in most places. I'm doing it all on foot in Pattaya though. Yes, it's been great exercise.
Walking in extreme heat is one of the best ways to lose weight. In just one month in Thailand, I lost 5 kg. Oh, also by eating clean, natural food. If it weren't for my 2 old ladies here, I'd be there in a sec.@@WalkAboutWayne
Glad to see you're starting to like Pattaya , it does take a bit of time to get used to it , the trouble was I never wanted to leave , Jomtiem really seems the place to chill . 😊
I think the longer you stay, the longer you don't want to leave. I talk about this in the next video .
If you stay too long in Pattaya, you may find you need to leave for a few days😁 Koh Samet is a great place to clear the mind. Take a girl with you! They love it there. Dinner on the beach at night and a fire show. Great👍🏻
Yes, I think I would need a lot of breaks if I lived here .
Okay! I see ya..you got your strut back!!mobbing down the street with that swag, son!
Or was it the birdie dazzler from last night that’s got you on Strut mode😂
No comment 🤣
You should go to Cafe Racer, my mate ownes it. Tell him Oz told you about it? He an old army buddy of mine!
Nice! Maybe next time mate.
8:50 😋
I know I had one leaving my room this morning 🫰
Good man 👍
Also, what camera do you use?
GoPro 11 👌
I've stayed in both areas in the past, now when im in that area its Jomtien all day long for me. The Amazon cafe near soi 6 is nice to sit at and watch the world go by. Cheap charlies in Soi 5 and plenty small thai food places. That's some walk back mate 😂. I'm sweating 🥵 thinking about it 😂
I was sweating buckets . I been to Cheap Charlies for breakfast. It will feature in my next video. Cheers mate
There's now a cheap Charlie's in Jomtien too. 20 yards from the beach 😁.
8:09 Be safe and careful. Falling off or getting hurt is very bad. How far is it to go from Pattaya to Jomtien?
3 miles, maybe 4
Thanks! I was on the bus for about 5/10 minutes. Not far.
I lived in Jomtien for 2 years... Pattaya and Jomtien roads are ALWAYS under construction! Terrible for the traffic.
Great video
A bit like Chiang Mai also. Always road works going on. Thanks buddy.
Believe me you wouldn`t want to be getting baht buses from Jomtien to Pattaya or vice versa after early morning. They are packed and sweaty and can take up to an hour in the Pattaya direction because of the road works. A motorbike taxi would be 80 baht but worth the extra imo. They were great during covid though. You really should have stayed in Jomtien longer, your walk back was via Dongtan Beach and Pratumnak.
Yes, I did see a few buses packed to the rafters. I must of got lucky, it wasn't to bad for me.
How long was the ride on the baht bus from Pattaya to Jomtien?...and dare I ask how long it took to walk on the way back? lol.
Always 10 baht
About 10 minutes on the bus. It took me at least 30 to 40 minutes to walk back.
Bhat bus from central to walking street, some go straight onto Jomtien, or just change when they double back up second road
I can walk the to walking street, no problems. But good info to know. Cheers
Yep ‘2nd road’ you were right mate. Appears you are enjoying yourself anyway ✌️
Nice, I thought it was. Yes, I've had a great time buddy. Time to move on soon though.
used to like jomtien very much, (still do now) but cha am is my preference these days!
I liked Cha-Am, I was only there for a day, but it seemed really chilled.
Love it in Jomtiem different world mate I love it there Wayne a nice few bars accommodation is 30 percent cheaper even food is cheaper but you have more happy hours there beer maybe cheaper in Pattaya
Yeah, doesn't seem a bad place. I wasn't there long enough, but it felt more of a place that I would like.
Your channel is so rare and unique can’t wait to see what’s next
🤣 This is a bot, but thanks
That guys syrup ..bless..thats the definition of being old enough not to give a sh"t anymore 😆
He was such a character 🤣
If you like quiet places, you can move a bit further south, to Na Jomtien - can be very quiet and pleasant.
Nice one 👍
Nice one Wayne.
The mystery of whether or not your arsh was alone last night in your room.... did you include an easter egg in the video?
00:14:15 has me wondering.... You're a bad bad man Wayne 😂😂😂
Take it easy.
🤣🤣🤣 it's a mystery mate .
The vlog was worth it just the see the guy with the wig next to you on the songthaew to Jomtien! Pattaya really caters to all types. But, it is changing fast with the Indian & Chinese intake and probably not in a good way.
That guy was a right character 🤣.
Congrats on your honesty regarding mongering. So glad you admitted it head on.
Thanks! Probably not a full blown monger, but I'm no saint, I like Women. Best to be honest 👍
If it weren't for my GF, I'd be a full-blown monger.@@WalkAboutWayne
Nice blog, like Jomtien also better than Pattaya. I wonder what is your preference between Hua Hin and Jomtien. Regarding the mongering. no judgement here, but the thing is that in Pattaya the main activity for older men is mongering while in Chiang Mai it can be a night out in the bars here and there, that is not quite mongering.
Thanks! Yes, I wouldn't class myself as a full blown monger, but I do live in Chiang Mai and ofcourse I meet girls sometimes and date sometimes.
Regarding Hua Hin, I would say Pattaya is much more of a monger paradise. Hua Hin is no slouch though, alot of bars and girls.
Was that Benny Hill on the baht bus with you wearing a wig?
🤣🤣 He was such a character. Just kept staring 🤣
@WalkAboutWayne He actually looks like the actor Bob Todd from the Benny Hill show.
you mean a "shegxpat"😅or a bobbydazzipat ... nice beach take a dive and chill mate🏊♀it looks hot 🥵
Haha thanks . I'm a choir boy really .
Pattaya does not seem like the kind of place I could live but I do plan on visiting. Jomtien might be okay for a long term stay. Staying in Nana for the next couple nights so maybe i'll get a taste of Pattaya.
Nice one Dan, Nana will be good training for Pattaya 🤣
Hello Wayne mate. Jomtien is the best place to live in Thailand, 100% IMHO. Lived there 3-4 years (2007) then moved to Bangsarey, 20kms along the coast. It has everything!!
Nice one mate, cheers for the info. I hope to be back again soon.
After living in Pattaya for 8 months I have moved to Jomtien. I much prefer Jomtien as it is quieter and still has plenty of action if you want it. 10 minutes on the baht bus and you are back into Pattaya anyway. Love the each life.
Nice! Jomtien seems like the perfect spot around Pattaya. 👍
A lot of people talk garbage about the area that have spent very little or no time there , the heart of Pattaya is full of tourists in party mode much like Patong , but outside there are some nice spots that are very well priced .
Jomtien is a nice mix for me on a long stay with a nice condo and a pool , and south of there is a whole coastline of beaches and islands that escape the mainstream tourists .
Yes, true. That's the same as Chiang Mai. It takes time to see the real city. I hope to spend more time in Pattaya/ Jomtien in the future 👍
Don't get into the baht buses that are parked, you can just flag them down when they are driving by,, they will stop for you, no waiting that way...
Luckily I didn't have to wait for any, but yes, that's what I'll be doing next time.
Impressed by Jomtien, huh... Is the dyed in the wool Northerner having a rethink, Wayne?
Jomtien was more my style mate.Let's not get carried away though 🤣. It would need to be something really special to take me away from my North.
@@WalkAboutWayne I hear ya. Plenty of relatively cheap condos with sea views 1-2 mins walk from the very decent beach, along with perhaps the most insane nightlife in the world a 5-10 min baht bus ride away... that's pretty special.
@@gsomethingsomething2658 I've loved my time down around Pattaya / Jomtien though mate. I wouldn't rule it out. I'll defo be coming back.
@@WalkAboutWayne heres a question Hua Hin or Jomtien?
@@Zerinth That's a tough one, I've not spent enough time or seen all of Jomtien. Hua Hin would be more for me I think.
If you get a chance, jump the baht bus even further down Jomtien Beach. That area you got off around North Jomtien and Dongtan Beach is *okay*, but still a little like Pattaya-lite. You can head all the way south to Na Jomtien right at the end of the baht bus route and have 100 meter stretches of beach to yourself.
And rip off prices, but....Tinnie's Pies in Jomtien are/is are phenomenal.....but the sausage rolls are ballsacks.
Yes, I wish I walked the other way. I got off a bit early . Thanks
Dont worry Bud, fk em, I am 62 lived here since retiring at 45. Keep yourself fit sober and focused don t matter. You re looking good mate. Go steady!

Thai people would say that a farang that lives in Chiang Mai is defo better than a farang that lives in Pattaya - Chiang Mai attracts long term, well behaved farang, Pattaya attracts 'cheap farang' (don't shoot the messenger, this is a quote from my Thai wife)
That's probably generally the Thai perception, but the beach and beach road at Jomtien are rather lovely, and the air quality is better. There's more of a holiday feel, whereas Chiang Mai has more of a steady living feel.
Yes, I think the average Thai person would say that .
I agree with your thai wife. Pattaya people is what thai locals call westerners who I describe as just released from prison. They argue over 50 baht happy hour beers like they're broke bums.
Yes Wayne, Jomtien much more chilled than Pattaya but still has its bars and if one wants to have a big one in nut house Pattaya it's a 10 baht bus trip away. Jomtien more the Expat place to live while Pattaya the sin city party place for those looking for the action. Cheers buddy.
Hey Steven, I saw your last message mate . I didn't reply because I don't want to reveal my next move. But I think you're a mind reader buddy 👌

Move to Jomtien, don't stay in Pattaya (Central area).
I will become depressed if having to stay in Pattaya Central, such crowded, noisy, and smelly area.
Yeah for sure. With 10 baht, 20 minute public transport it is way better to stay in the more laidback, quieter area and just head into "the city" to do shopping, buy kebabs and then escape.

3 days at Jomtien in February 2023. That was the smelliest/stinkiest beach I’ve ever been too. No way would I go in that water.
I'm not sure what the water is like, I thought the beaches in Pattaya and Jomtien, weren't too bad .
