- Restoration and slight customisation of a Dinky toys number 237 racing car. Representing a 1954/55 Mercedes Benz W196 Formula 1 GP car.
This Mercedes car won the F1 championship in 1954 and 1955.
Nice restoration, details and paint job 👌 👍
Thank you Joe. It is a spot on paint job even if I say so myself. I did the number 36 first but changed it to 30 to match the original and box. Thank you for watching and commenting 👍
Nice 👍
Thank you Rick much appreciated 👍
Excellent! The very dab, Andy! A lovely motor.
Thank you Fraser. What surprises me is how much power they kicked out in the 1950s
Nicely done restoration!
Thank you. I do like these early racers.👍
Great job 👍🏻
Thank you. An easier one but I was pleased with the outcome. 👍

Well done Andy😊😊😊😊
Thank you Mick 👍
Andy excellent job as usual, your eye for detail is spot on 👍👍
Thank you very much. I did change the number to 30 even though I had already made number 36 and cut it out. To match the box
Lovely restoration Andy. Like you said, it might be a simple model but it takes a lot of time and effort to get a result like this. 👍👍
Thank you Richard. I got the paint spot on for this one. Even very close up it is superb. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Noice restore mate. When my father is teaching me to drive he's to call me Stirling Moss, lol cheers Graham
Thanks Graham. Probably Stirlings best chance to be world champion if he hadn’t been up against Fangio. 👍
Fantastic transformation 👏 have subscribed 😊
Thank you very much for your cot and subscription. It is a great model to restore if you get one. 👍

Das ist wunderbar.
Danke John😊
👍😎 Nice lookin merc 👍🏁
Thank you much appreciated. That paint went on really well. 👍
Lovely work! Beautiful outcome!!❤ Paul Restorer just did this same Dinky racer recently!😅
Yes I saw Paul’s video and delayed mine. It sometimes happens that restorers do the same. All we can do is delay if we can. Currently I’ve delayed a truck trailer and bull dozer since Martin Dare did the same one I had recently . Thank you for watching and commenting 👍
That's a awesome looking restored Mercedes racecar. Did you use baking soda to fix the broken steering wheel spokes?
I like how you made a new custom box for it, even a new driver. Nice work as always Andy. 🏆
Yes I used bicarbonate of soda to create a new steering wheel centre and hold the spokes together. It’s more bicarbonate than plastic now. I bought some box and decal templates in pdf form on eBay. Cost about £8 . Well worth it. That’s the second box I’ve done on the channel. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
@@andysgaragediecastrestorations I use baking soda and super glue, to create the strongest bonds between items. It becomes indestructible on most everything. You're welcome Andy.
Nice job can you give me the link where I can get the part to fix the wheels to the axle .
Colin I just peened them on with the hammer to round the edges. Failing that you can always glue them on. If you watch Paul Restorer he uses a drilled out bolt in a drill on hammer setting. He did this a few weeks ago and would have used this method. 19.44 minutes in. 👍

Colin it’s home made. You need a bolt and cut the end off both ends then drill one out into a cone shape. Join the diecast and modellers Facebook group and there are lots of useful tips on there and follow gravesend salvage Australia. Michael on that channel is always looking at new ways. He is using a jewellers anvil to do this.
Excellent restoration Andy
