@@alanpearson2797 You might not realize that the Carpenters had the hit in 1970. Petula sang it at the 1971 Academy Awards when the song was nominated from the movie you mentioned. There may have been many other artists who sang it during those 13 years, but I’m not aware of any who recorded it before the Carpenters did.

My first album bought in the US the first time I went there, in 1070 was The Carpenters 1st album. How I loved their music! Karen Caroenter's voice, so mellow, soothing. Smooth as butter! Such a gifted singer, gone too soon. But the music lasts forever
Ats amazing how beautiful her voice is. She soared over all others ( when singers actually had a good voice) not like today when there are very very few singers that can sing, they are entertainers. For me she IS the best of the best. It sounds like she didn't even have to try ot just FLOWED. I say this as a 63 year old man that really likes music. I can't carry a tune in a bucket, but I can hear a beautiful voice from a mile away. Karan is not gone, she is just singing for a different audience. Amazing how all the songs sung by Karen Carpenter, with all the unique arrangements by Richard Carpenter, are so timeless and sound as if they were made Only Yesterday. Very impressive and even Comforting. I remember the announcement on Breakfast TV all those years ago, but any time I hear the Carpenters, it's as fresh as the day it was recorded. Why did nobody help her?
It's been said Karen was as honest as the day was long. But when it came to her dieting, she lied like a rug. She was very strong willed & stubborn 😣 & also in denial .f how she was destroying herself.
The answer is far more complex than what you know. The short answer is that she wanted a home and a family and her parents and "inner circle" prevented both of them from having it. That leads into the parents' Depression-era work ethic that had them living on the road, playing as many dates as possible. They needed time for themselves. What makes me such an expert? My parents were exactly like Harold and Agnes. My sister eloped to get away from the neverending control over her life. Karen ran off with Terry Ellis, and that failed spectacularly.
Anorexia comes from having no control over your life - except for what you eat. Yes being thin equals attractiveness but it’s really all about control. The thyroid meds and the epicap syrup really did her in. Epicap syrup destroys the heart muscle and she used it to throw up her food after eating. I can’t take thyroid meds because it’s gives me heart palpitations and a tight chest. So imagine what it can do to a healthy thyroid. Lastly yes the sudden weight gain on a weakened heart was too much. RIP Karen. ❤
The most tragic thing about her death was that she knew she was killing herself by not having a proper diet. I really felt badly for Richard's loss. I know they were very close as was I with my little sister. She was my life, I was her hero. We were rarely seen apart growing up. When she passed in February of 2020, she took half my heart with her and that is a part of me I will never get back.
Yes, very sad & I feel for Richard. It was also said he's had some regrets on his band decisions; maybe some things he said to her back then, as he'll never live it down.

Thanks, too, to Richard, for keeping her memory alive, and for all his excellent work on all their music together!
I had just started playing in a band called D----. I heard she had gone to be in a "new group" in Heaven. I cannot be angry. That would be selfish. As time goes on Karen's music gets better. It will be as long as time is. As long as there is a memory alive she will always be. "Karen, you make my life and my 'never-ending love' for music live stronger. "Like a battery charger". I love you. I miss you. FOREVER. You've only just begun.

This was a lovely tribute. As much as I loved Pet, with her many hits, my mind kept reaching out to hear Karen's iconic treatment of this classic song. It's a shame that her life was SO controlled -- first by her mother, then her brother (in other ways). I've spent a lifetime reading about, and following the life of Brian Wilson, another musical icon that was too easily "directed" by father Murry, bandmate Mike Love, and finally Dr. Landy. Fortunately he has largely freed himself from the "control" of so many others and continues to survive. Karen needed more than just a short-term "fix" from the NY doctor. She also needed (and DESERVED) support when she'd finished her Phil Ramone-produced personal record, and sadly, didn't get it from any of her California-based "family." [Similarly Brian didn't get Mikey's support for "Smile," either; it too was shelved, and he went into seclusion for a number of years.]
Just love her golden voice girl you can truly sing love your beautiful songs a really miss you keran you always in my ❤️ 💙 💜 💖 since I found you every minute I play your song you left a legacy for us to listen also love your smile gone but not forgotten sadly miss your music live in our heart god no every may your soul R I P love ❤️ you❤😂❤😂😊

I don't know where performers find the strength to perform mere days after their friends pass away, especially under tragic circumstances at a young age. I know they were very close as was I with my little sister. She was my life, I was her hero. We were rarely seen apart growing up. When she passed in February of 2020, she took half my heart with her and that is a part of me I will never get back.
That happened to me when my younger brother passed away in 2016. He took a part of my happiness I'll never have back.
You did what you could...
Yes, very sad & I feel for Richard. It was also said he's had some regrets on his band decisions; maybe some things he said to her back then, as he'll never live it down.
My sister passed away just last year i miss her so much..she was only 46. rest in peace miss razelebe prado my idol my beloved sister❤❤❤💕💕💕💕💕
The most beautiful voice such an incredible woman her singing It's just incredible to me
A great song from a great artist. Who could ever replace Karen carpenter?
This is lovely. Two of my favorite singers of all time. Such happy childhood memories of both.
lovely Bread song lyrics
I can't hear this without tears.
2022 - "Just a guy," thanks for uploading this. You did a great job editing the clips and photos together. A beautiful, moving tribute for Karen Carpenter from Petula Clark. Makes me all misty-eyed each time I watch it. The world loss Karen 39 years ago, but the pain and sadness is still palpable. And now Olivia Newton-John, Karen's good friend, has joined her. RIP Karen and Olivia and thank you both for leaving a tremendous legacy of music that will last forever.
Rover8 Thank you for your kind comment. It took me a while to make this video that was inspired when I heard Petula Clark singing "For All We Know" so sadly and beautifully in 1983 and was in itself a heartfelt tribute the Karen we all loved.
Rover8783, thank you for your comment. You exquisitely express everything that so many of us feel.
@@JustaGroovyGuy JustaGroovyGuy, thank you so much for myself and many others for sharing Petula Clark's beautiful and heartbreaking tribute to her cherished pal Karen Carpenter. The photos you chose and your inclusion of Karen's recording of For All We Know made this video even more unforgettable and searingly poignant.
Two of my favorites were friends. What a happy surprise!
Petula you were my girl in the 60s
I saw her in concert in 2010. She looked and sounded great. The audience went wild at "Downtown".
Im bawling my eyes out.
What a haunting, emotional cover. Got tears in my eyes. What Petula felt, I felt, when news of Karen's death came out.
TEARS TEARS TEARS
I PLAYED PIANO AND SANG HER BEAUTIFUL SONGS.
I FELL IN LOVE WITH HER FROM DAY 1. NO ONE HAS EVER SOUNDED ANYWHERE CLOSE TO HER.
EVERY GENRE OF MUSIC LOVES HER.
I MISS YOU ANGEL VOICE🕊❤️🩹
Inesquecível Karen Carpenter! Continua presente em nossas vidas! Bela homenagem!
That was beautiful. Still missed, after all these years. Thankfully, we have all these videos and recordings that show us and future generations the beautiful legacy she left even at so young an age. Thanks, too, to Richard, for keeping her memory alive, and for all his excellent work on all their music together!
Song was written by 2 members of the group Bread, Rob Royer and James Griffin with Fred Karlin
What a legendary songstress that till this day no one can ever replace her golden voice.
I'm fans the Karen..💞 I love her voice and songs..!!! God bless forever..💐🌹🌻🌸🌷💮🌺🌼🍓💜
Very touching, thanks
Goodnight karen

❤ Karen Carpenter forever❤
Beautiful and a sense of humor.
We really miss your beautiful voice and your beautiful smile hope to meet you someday ❤😢
Great job
The memories keep flooding back ...& so are the tears.😢
Here is the same song with video of her playing the piano. You watch her play and sing th-cam.com/video/EV-KPl9Y0JY/w-d-xo.html
Very sweet. We lost her way too soon.

It was the epitome of a female voice singer for me as a Young Man growing up you were incredible Karen amazing there were others in your time but you were truly fascinating to me I cherish my memories of you
Oh my goodness... This was so beautiful.
Very good !
From a lady to my lady ...thanks ..
I don't know where performers find the strength to perform mere days after their friends pass away, especially under tragic circumstances at a young age. One girl I knew (barely) took her own life a few years ago, and I was a wreck for months. I still cry about the untimely deaths of several of my favourite artists. (I am 43/m and married with two kids...)
great! as great as Karen!
The best
