      @@josephweaver5385 You tube sends me a notice whenever someone replies to a comment I make. You and I are so lucky to have lived some of the greatest years in history. I,m even luckier though! I have 2 older sisters. 1 is 5yrs. older and the other 10yrs. older. I got to listen to 50,s and 60,s music whether I liked it or not and what,s not to like? To top it off my dad owned an Auto Body repair shop in Littleton,Ma. where I grew up. I can remember the coupes and hot rods. When I saw the movie American Graffiti it reminded me of sweeping the floor at the garage for my dad! My naive mother worked in the office part time. One day after The Doors released "back door man"" and 1 of the guys was singing I,m a back door man as he was walking across the shop my mother heard him and asked me, what,s a back door man? OMG did I turn red in the face! I could feel it. My answer was ahh, umm, I,m not sure, just ask dad, he should know and ran out of the office! Jeff D.

    Petula Clark was the ultimate "dream girl" of so many adolescent boys back in the '60s, me included.

    This song takes me right back to the 60's. Driving in dad car with my mom. Just listening to the radio as the snow was coming down. As a kid, I knew there was something special about this song. I could just feel it. I am sure that old rambler is scrap, mom and dad long gone and yet the song remains as does the memory. As time goes by.

      And that’s why I don’t listen to Today’s music.. A person much younger than my 62 years said “okay Boomer! Your generation has some of the best music.” My favorite decades for music are 60’s, 70’s & 80’s..

    • @mottledbrain
      @mottledbrain 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@garycraig6506 I've discovered that my most of my favourite pop songs lie between the years 1966 - 1972. Although only eight years old at the time, I began listening to music in 1966. I'm guessing that disco took over the air waves in about 1973. (I do of course love many tunes from the early '60s and some even in the '90s. My favourite music however has been "progressive rock", but that is fading as I age. Nice, soft jazz anyone?)

    • @hcrun

      The basic reason for that is because todays music is essentially created on a computer; samples are mixed, voices added, everything tweaked and the result spat out as an MP3.
      In our day (I'm 75) that didn't exist. Musicians had to play instruments and singers had to be able to sing.
      It wasn't until (approximately)1964 that the the first pop record featuring synthesised music (a stylus-operated keyboard of sorts) was issued......and it was pretty ordinary.
      We Boomers are lucky in that it was our music tastes coupled with 45rpm records played on portable transistorised record players which changed music forever.
      Today anyone can churn out a load of utter rubbish and call it "music".

      Thanks for the info, Ken. I'm nearly 71 and was a freshman in high school when that song was a hit. It brings back memories in the way that only music can do. Like you said, singers could really sing and musicians could really play back then.

    Petula's surely got the moves! Look at her swing and sway, dancing to her own music. One of the best singers we had in the '60s. I even had the opportunity of watching her again in concert at MOA, one of the biggest arenas in the Philippines, don't remember what year, but recent..still great diva ❣️💕❤️

    I love Petula Clark and have a CD of her songs - this is one her best, arguably the best of all.
    Being a Seinfeld fan I also remember the episode where George's only clue to a work task he has to carry out is the Petula Clark song "Downtown"
    The late 'sixties had some wonderful music - gotta love the modern technology that let's us still enjoy these gems long after the people who made it have gone.
