Oh, that's just your prejudice, which is fine and sweet that you love her so much. I would say that Julie Andrews and a singer you likely never heard of, Ofra Haza (listen to: Im Nin Alu and You've Got a Friend), have very clear voices... and many more. I think that Karen has a somewhat deep voice and that may have something to do with the appeal for you and why hear her voice as being so rich and clean... I'm not disagreeing with you on that at all, but there are other people with very clear voices. There were times when Whitney's voice rang like a well-crafted bell also. Donna Summer singing Someone Who Will Watch Over Me is very different from Karen's but it shows a different kind of magic that Karen didn't have. Another great voice - Dulce Pontes singing Cancao do Mar.

This is bringing a tear to my eye. I’ve always felt KC was the best female voice of all time but EF can easily hold her own. Together, they are perfection personified. Thank you for posting this.
I just watched a PBS special about the Carpenters where a clip of this was played. So here I am to listen to it in its entirety. I already cried while watching the special so I may not cry again. Rest well, Karen and Ella.
Today the most of people don't know what they're seeing when they watch this. Those two ladies were legends in their own time and they remain as two of the finest and greatest Singer of all times.
Karen's voice is so amazingly perfect. If they tried to put it through autotune today it would blow up the machine since there would be nothing to change. I mean Ella is #1 and Barbara Streisand is amazing too and there are many others. Karen's frequency pierces your heart. Amazing duet.
This is a perfect example of who Karen was...her voice was almost a whisper...Ella didn't need a mic and as you notice in this video...Karen's mic was so close to her mouth, where Ella was never near to the mic....Ella mic had to be turned down and Karen's had to be turned up and this is the pure Magic of Karen Carpenter...Karen sang in almost a whisper voice, so pure, so sweet and so gentle it can't be matched or reproduced. Ella could be heard without a microphone...Karen's could not and this is key...Karen was so soft that without a microphone you would never heard this voice. With all the stars Karen preformed with...their mic was turned way down and hers were turned way up, this is the magic of Karen. Karen's voice was so soft and so pure, but at a whisper level. Karen was a beautiful soul who sang about the one thing she could not find...Love...the one thing we all look for which is why this music is timeless....The pain, the loneliness Karen felt, is the experience of so many is what she mostly sang about...Goodbye to love...that was very real for her and so many other songs. RIP dear sweet Karen
@@NoonToNow exactly! karen COULD belt if and when needed, also the fact that karen held her microphone close up to her mouth in fact is EVEN MORE difficult since it would amplify any faults and weakness in someone's voice.
Don’t forget Julie Andrews. I’d argue that more people have heard her sing than any other female singer of the 20th century. Generations have seen Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music multiple times. All the Broadway performances all the TV specials, all the stuff with Carol Burnett, singing in various other movies, Grammy awards, Emmys, Oscars, Golden Globes she was part of everyone’s life for decades
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face,.,,
They are a force of nature. Ella’s timbre and tone can never be forgotten, it’s the throne her voice sits on. Karen’s voice is the fountain of youth, life affirming, her voice is like spring; their voices are just as important as sunshine to me. Those women can sing the world’s children to heavenly sleep. I miss this America, having never known it but these two make me long for it.
The articulation and expression of Karen's voice with "My Funny Valentine" is so much like acting--so natural and effortless. It reminds me of her rendition of "A House in Not a Home from an earlier special. I wish that she had recorded both of the songs in their entirety; however, I'll accept whatever vocal crumbs are offered.
Two of my all time favorite singers :) If only Karen could have gotten better help, she might have lived longer and there would be more amazing duets like this.

Not only did KC have the best contralto to ever walk the planet but she has genuine written all over her! Rare indeed!
Her voice was unique.
@@richardbaroff4911 her and that of Robin Gibb
@@carrie8541 Perry Como lived right down the street from me!
What a duo Karen and Ella did! I love it!
Both gone, but their voices will live forever! ❤ Eternally in our hearts & etched in the history of music..
2 of the most beautiful voices ever!
“Someone to watch over me” is sung by Karen amazingly! How she goes to her lower register is just unique!
Well, she was an alto, and altos should know how to drop their voices.
@@lcb4716 contralto
❤❤❤
I never knew this existed... two of the greatest female vocalist in history together! Pure Heaven! They sound great together especially in their finale!
Two of the most unique voices in American music. Amazing.
Karen had a voice like an angel. She left us way too soon.
How perfect Karen Carpenter sounded despite her serious illness in 1980, three years before she died! Her divine sound and heavenly appearance bring tears to my eyes.
Karen was a vastly under appreciated artist, she sang with a smooth passion that had never been heard before.
True. Smooth, perfection passion. No one quite like her.
And she was an amazing drummer!
Karen Carpenter looks like a skeleton here! I can't believe that Ella Fitzgerald never sang a duet with Streisand! Judy Garland did!
She was not “under appreciated” or underrated as people like to say about every freaking artist/band on TH-cam for so many years now. Make it stop 🙄🥴
or since
I'm Daniel from 🇦🇷 Argentina, and I started to listen to them, when we lived in the UK 🇬🇧 {Barrow in furness /Cumbria} since 1975, She really had a lovely voice and talent
Wow. These two. So so wonderful.💕 The world misses you both and longs for the days when music was music and beautiful voices were so pure.
Oh my God have I iust slipped into a parallel universe? my two favourite singers in one place singing together. Never knew they ever sang together. Great video.
Oh my gosh! Both of them shear perfection. Their voices blended so gorgeously together. It's wonderful to see Karen so obviously happy to be singing with Ella. But how sad to know her days were numbered. Gone too soon. Rest easy, dear Karen.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face,.,,
This just warms my heart. I wish I could listen to these two beautiful voices all day, everyday.
KAREN WAS IN THE SAME LEAGUE AS STRIESAND AND CELAN....YES
This is bringing a tear to my eye. I’ve always felt KC was the best female voice of all time but EF can easily hold her own. Together, they are perfection personified. Thank you for posting this.
I just watched a PBS special about the Carpenters where a clip of this was played. So here I am to listen to it in its entirety. I already cried while watching the special so I may not cry again. Rest well, Karen and Ella.
Stumbled on this by pure accident...great way to end my TH-cam surfing for the night! Thanks for sharing two legends!
This is definitely the perfect way to end a TH-cam surfing session, because nothing else will compare. F-ing unreal how amazing this is.
Same!
Today the most of people don't know what they're seeing when they watch this.
Those two ladies were legends in their own time and they remain as two of the finest and greatest Singer of all times.
Un par de extraordinarias interpretes, muy admirada por mí y por muchos mexicanos. Las abrazo hasta el cielo
Imagine how Karen must have felt performing with Ella.
I don't know why I'm crying.... They're both my favorite! I sing now using their technique if singing. Thanks for sharing this video! They are magic!
Naw....
you're crying because you have an appreciation for unvarnished talent. too bad these two never made an album together.
Deux diamants bruts ! On se croirait au paradis !!! Tant c'est beau , juste et simplement merveilleux !!!
Two musical angels allowing us to listen to their great voices, Wonderful!!
Ella is holding a mic. Karen could belt just fine.
@@NoonToNow exactly! karen COULD belt if and when needed, also the fact that karen held her microphone close up to her mouth in fact is EVEN MORE difficult since it would amplify any faults and weakness in someone's voice.
Perfect observation and yes the great ones don't need a microphone!
they are both miming?
@@0flan only Karen is lipsyncing. Ella refused to pre-record her part, so she is singing live here.
Blown away by 2 of the most classy Women singing in da world !!!
Karen, Ella & Aretha... The quintessential female voices of 20th century - thanks so much for sharing Karen & Ella together
Quintessential...That's a Wonderful word.....
and lets add Whitney
Y Mercedes Sosa
Don’t forget Julie Andrews. I’d argue that more people have heard her sing than any other female singer of the 20th century. Generations have seen Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music multiple times. All the Broadway performances all the TV specials, all the stuff with Carol Burnett, singing in various other movies, Grammy awards, Emmys, Oscars, Golden Globes she was part of everyone’s life for decades
Connie Francis was voted the best female entertainer of the 20th century and sold the most records .
It's so beautiful seeing Karen totally in the moment, just exuding confidence and happiness - hard to believe she was in the midst of issues.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face,.,,
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
They are a force of nature. Ella’s timbre and tone can never be forgotten, it’s the throne her voice sits on. Karen’s voice is the fountain of youth, life affirming, her voice is like spring; their voices are just as important as sunshine to me. Those women can sing the world’s children to heavenly sleep.
I miss this America, having never known it but these two make me long for it.
What am excitement to hear these two together. Both are in Heaven surrounded by Millions giving praise to God!❤❤
I absolutely love Karen Carpenter’s voice! It is a tragedy what happened to her. There were times I wished she is still alive.
Two angels from heaven
2 of the very best. No auto tune needed.
HOW HAVE I NEVER SEEN THIS?!?!?!
Two of the most immaculate voices ever in all of recorded music
Two of my all time favorite singers :) If only Karen could have gotten better help, she might have lived longer and there would be more amazing duets like this.
