Brick house is my favorite but it was really hard to pick, rod Stewart, tonight's the night is 🔥 thank you for this
I Feel Love, Donna Summer. One of the most sampled songs to this day.
I took a look at the list from Wkipedia. Redid the top ten. Dreams, Hotel California, Dancing Queen, Sir Duke, and Rich Girl in top 10.
I also did a top 25 for 1978. They got the top 6 right. I move Grease from Franki Valli to #7.
"Don't Leave Me this Way" came out about the time the stereo industry was pushing the Quad sound...and it sounded amazingly good on a Quad set up

Allan O'dea? That was Glen Shorrock from little river band, LRB.
He still going around. I saw him last night 11th Oct 24.
To be honest I've forgotten 7 of these songs. Only Thelma Houston, Babra Streisand and The Emotions were memorable.
SIR : " I LIKE DREAMING " REALLY DOES BELONG IN 1976. IN DENVER, IT CAME OUT JUST AS I TURNED 30 Y/O ON 9/24, SO I REMEMBER IT WELL. 1976. ---------------MJL, 78 Y/O
your love RITA COOLAGE
Not my favorite by any means, but Debbie Boone's "You light up my light" happens to be not only the biggest hit of 1977 by spending 10 weeks at number 1, but also the decade.
Yes but it was in Billboards Hot 100 for 1978. I am confused as well because the song was released in Aug 1977 and then spent 10 weeks at no 1 but is no. 3 in the Hot 100 for 1978.
I agree. It definitely was not my favorite but regardless it was one of the top hits of the seventies. They absolutely ran it in the ground playing it on the radio. It was like the national anthem; every young women or girl that thought they could sing butchered this song. Instead of lighting up my life it gave me an upset stomach. Now nearly fifty years later I still can't stand to hear it.
That wasn't Alan O'Day at number nine. That was the Little River band
You have a good eye, There's only 1 video to this song on TH-cam, And it happens to be the little river band on American bandstand😳

Saw Glen Shorrock last night!
The pic is not Alan O'Day, that's the Australian band Little River Band
ABBA ?? Dancing Queen?
Man, I hated disco! I remember punching the buttons on the radio every time this sappy crap came on . Thank goodness for FM rock stations and 8-tracks. The rock music from those days was great, but Top 40 pop was mostly awful.
No "Heard It In a Love Song"?
Easy by Lionel Richie my favorite in 1977.
That's the Commodores, kid --- get ya facts correct, son!
Groovy was not used in 1977.
I was in college in 19977. The deluge of disco and sappy shallow top 40 garbage drove me to look for something else. That started my love affair with traditional blues, bluegrass and old time country music. With a few exceptions late 70’s mucin was trash no matter how popular it was
Jr you must be a time traveler 😂😂
No wonder punk came about some real garbage songs here 😂
I forgot how bad music sucked in this era!
Much better than the scum music of today's world!
1977 was one of the crappiest years of music. I was working in radio back then and we were inundated with either sappy ballads or crappy disco with a couple of exceptions. The Gibb family was everywhere and the God awful "You Light Up My Life." was #1 for 10 of the 25 weeks it was on the Billboard Hot 100. That one song almost made me quit the radio business. 1977 was probably the worst year of music in the 20th century, but I'm sure 1976 was a close second.
None of those very average mushy songs has be one of most years of dissspointmemy sadly Influcend by dlsco which was a shit year😢 see
REMEMBER THEM ALL!!!!!!!!
