    All the grains and legumes (not including the veggies she bought) here come out to about ~12,000 calories. Divide that by 7 days the it's about 1,800 calories. Considering that's only about $1.50 a day spent on grains/legumes that's legit. Of course that's the worst case scenario having only that much to spend. If we double our budget to $3 a day on this plan then we're all set! You'll have enough budget to spend on sauces / seasoning / and hella fruits.

    I love these videos! I actually sat and watched this one with my two year olds and they loved identifying all the different ingredients you were using. You also reminded me that my husband used to make huge batches of fresh salsa that were so much yummier and cheaper than store bought. We'll be adding that to our meal plan again soon! And I agree with some of the comments below - I would love to see you bringing usuables to the grocery store (Sprouts won't remove the tare on containers so you can use mesh bags) and using glass storage containers for meal prep; I used mason jars when I prepped your last vegan meal prep for weight loss. Thanks for putting in the time to make these videos for your followers; they add so much value to my life!

    For your tomatoe salsa. You can add silantro and if you like spicy add any kind of peppers. As jalapeño and much better salsa. Kinda pico de gallo.

    also depends where you live. In my area (Capital of Canada) we could easily spend $5-$8 for just a very small head of cauliflower.

    • @SkwithOv
      @SkwithOv 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      in my experience, buying frozen is good
      you can get several cauliflower servings for around $1 frozen from walmart
      not the best option but that's all I can afford and it's pretty good

    You should use reusable bags/cans for your produce and stuff from the bulk bins.. the plastic bags are so bad for the environment :(

    • @labella42071
      @labella42071 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Haticesahin70 wow....such a wonderful video and you have to pick it apart. Going vegan is the greenest thing a person can do. This video hopefully can encourage people to do so. Your comment isn't wrong just would be nice if the focus was on her positive message.

    • @brittanirowe6934
      @brittanirowe6934 7 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      labella42071 They're not wrong though...just because she's vegan doesn't mean there's nothing left for her to improve on
      That's like saying if you're vegetarian you don't need to be vegan because you're already doing so much
      I don't think they meant to negate from the video and veganism, it was probably just a tip to improve her behaviors

    • @labella42071
      @labella42071 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Huntress Artemis please reread my comment. I said the original comment ISN'T wrong.....

    • @brittanirowe6934
      @brittanirowe6934 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      labella42071 Ok and I was just reiterating that
      your comment came off kind of condescending when we both agree what they originally commented wasn't wrong

    • @labella42071
      @labella42071 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Huntress Artemis the vegan community is plagued with people who criticize each other for not being "vegan" or "green" enough. This negativity turns people away.

  • @birdmad9

    Boy our prices are different. You got 2 limes for 23 cents. That would cost me 78 cents at the store. All the other prices are higher too. Getting all those tomatoes for just 1.02 would have easily cost 4 times or more where I live. I absolutely love this type of video though and hope you do more of them.

    • @EmsIsFab
      @EmsIsFab 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah this sort of thing is really different all the countries you go to. Like Yovana lives in a place with a warmer climate, and I live in Canada, so some of those ingredients would not be so inexpensive here BUT we have other things that ARE less expensive. just switch it up to taste :)

    • @analarson2920
      @analarson2920 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      us too, and we live near farms, it is just too expensive. We do grow foods to help us but we have a short growing season, clearly we live in the wrong place.

    • @SkwithOv
      @SkwithOv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      so true
      add that with my allergies (including carrots, bananas, and avocados) and it's so, so hard...I stay vegetarian but after I moved out of my parents house a few years ago I couldno longer afford to eat vegan because vegan food is more expensive (which wasn't as much of a problem with my parents) and less accessable for me personally to eat foods most vegans say I should (I can't eat foods I'm allergic to!)

    • @janem3575
      @janem3575 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I work with someone who has multiple, multiple allergies, otherwise she would eat vegan too. Lots of produce she can't eat. I started wondering if it's the pesticides they've sprayed on produce. She's too hesitant to try the organic versions.

    • @SkwithOv
      @SkwithOv 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I've tried the fancy organic carrots (even homegrown ones family friends grew) and they taste the same
      they give me a metallic taste that can stay for hours or even days
      I used to eat bags of carrots (occasionally, a couple times a month) as a kid and I loved them but then something changed
      I thought it was pesticide or something they put on them too but nope :/

    Rawvana, I enjoyed how you have organized these meals. If you soak the beans overnight and then cook, they increase their vit C content over 100%. Beans are the only food I know of that will maintain their Vit C if brought to a boil and then cooked on low until done. Watching if you get cravings of any kind. If you crave sweets, it means eat more fruit. If you crave fatty foods or salt it means eat more greens. I'd add a bit more greens, for my own personal liking. Thank you so much for your tips. Particularly the breakfast smoothies of oats with banana and/or carrots. With Warm Regards, Keiya

    Eating vegan is only expensive if you buy those certified vegan products like pre made meals, baked goods, snacks, drinks, etc. The prices on those items are sky high. Buying fresh produce is incredibly cost effective and you can get as creative as you like.
    A tip that has saved me a bunch of money is shopping at international grocery stores for produce. I've found stuff a lot cheaper and sometimes more variety at Asian and Hispanic grocery stores. Im not 100% vegan but I have been adopting a more plant based diet and cutting down my meat intake. Crazy how much money I save.

    I loved this video, only how are you reheating the meals, in the microwave? The nutrients get zapped that way. I suggest putting everything in separate pots with lids, and when you want to eat something that needs heating, put it into a small copper based Balti bowl on the stove, that way it stays healthy and nutritious 😊

  • @KateMcDougallMusic

    I’m super broke right now thank you so much for this! Here’s the breakdown of what I spent
    10 pound bag of potatoes $3.99
    2 pounds organic apples $3.49
    5 zucchinis/2.49 pounds at 99 cents a pound $2.47
    1 pound organic carrots $0.99
    16 bananas/5.43 pounds at 39 cents a pound $2.11
    1 lemon $0.79
    Teddie Peanut Butter with flaxseed $2.50
    Quaker Oats non gmo 2 pounds 10 ounces $3.99
    Light red dry kidney beans 1 pound $1.29
    Black beans dry $0.99
    Canned chickpeas 1 pound 13 oz $1.19
    Grand Total $23.80
    I’m not going to eat 10 pounds of potatoes in a week so that will last me awhile. I already had rice so I didn’t need to buy that. I really like peanut butter and it was on sale. It’ll be so yummy in the smoothies. I really wanted some fruit so I went for apples. I bought a lemon because lemon water is so good for you! There were no dry garbanzo beans at my grocery store so I mixed it up and bought other kinds plus one can of garbanzos. I skipped the tomato and onion salsa because I suffer from acid reflux so I try to stay away from tomatoes. I also bought way more bananas because I’d rather have two bananas in my smoothie and they were so cheap that I mind as well.

    Great video, thank you. My doctor has recently (2 days ago) put me on a vegan diet. Sprouts is a great place to shop for bulk foods. I have two questions- I have a problem with gas when I eat beans, lentils, oats; essentially the grains, legumes, etc. Is this allergy a compounded effect over the decades from bad eating? And does it clear up after a while of being on a vegan diet? Appreciate your help.

    How was it $.98 for potatoes? It said $1.69 on the sign where you grabbed them from. Did you put that bag back and find a cheaper route or something?

      I'm assuming she only accounted for the cost of the amount of potatoes she used? Like maybe she didn't use the whole bag but it's hard to tell from the video :)

      There's another sign for 98 cent 10 lb. bags of potatoes. Maybe that's the one she took

    I make an oatmeal-banana-carrot smoothie (and the "cookie" things too) but I use puréed carrots that I've frozen into little ice cubes :)

    Thank you for this video Rawvana. I'm slowly transitioning to vegan. It's not easy but the more I educate my mind about the benefits of eating vegan it makes it easier to make the necessary changes. 2018 is the year that I put more effort into it and I'm sure that by the end of this year I'll see and feel the benefits. 😊

    I'm in shock with the price! Definitely wanna try that! That would be $45.00 PER MONTH!!!! I'd love that! I've been getting to the conclusion that keeping a plant based diet might be the healthiest thing, specially for my pockets! I've always been a big time carnivore, but I'm thinking more about eating less meat, causing less impact to nature and other living beings, eating healthier. It's just the start. I don't know how will it play out in the long run... if anyone that is longer in this journey wants to recommend me other information source on how to eat cheaper and healthier I'd really appreciate it!

    great video :) but going to a grocery store that is far away from where you live it's more expensive, even if they have lower prices. The money and time you spend to get there are greater that a few bucks you might save up. Also, hardly even a store has lower prices in all of the products. Most likely you can find things of lower, equal or higher price so it serves a purpose only if you want something specific for a really good deal (e.g. detergent). Also the bulk section is not as sanitary and well preserved as sealed products and in case of a quality issue you don't deal with a brand name company that cares enough for the brand reputation among customers.

    This is the difference between living in the USA and Canada. You cannot get groceries that cheap here. It would cost 3 times that amount at least in Canada. Still, vegan is a lot cheaper.
