Later after the game Leon Lett got a letter from a little girl that said "Don't feel bad Leon. Last year during the Superbowl a player was going score a touchdown only to slow down and fumble the ball so everyone makes mistakes." The player who fumbled in the Superbowl was Leon Lett.
LEON LETT! NOOOOOOOO!! Honestly, that and the Bills coming back against the Oilers have to be the most indelible memories of football when I was a kid.
That's crazy! The dolphins would become the only NFL team to start 9-2 and miss the playoffs while the cowboys would never lose another game on their way to repeat super bowl win.
@@treyblaze22Yea that often gets overlooked and just as crazy as the end of this game. Some teams likely would fall apart with a loss like that. But not Dallas

Jimmy Johnson last loss as Dallas' head coach. They used Lett on this play because of the weather. He didn't usually play on kicks, which somewhat explains his mistake.
Me and my dad were just laughing about Leon Lett the other day 😂😂😂 he asked "who was the big lineman on those 90s Dallas teams that always fumbled or ran the wrong way" and I replied "OH NO LEON LETT!!" and we both giggled like children 😂
One guy a bit more memorable in a different sport, though it involves another Dallas area team. Remember Robin Ventura charging the mound on an old Nolan Ryan and getting his ass beat. Leon's mistakes were somewhat understandable, but what moron gets into a fist fight with a pitcher who throws over 100mph?
Man, Leon Lett have done some very respectable things as a player, but when it was "primetime", he is known for the blunders It's somewhat weird to think

💯 Solid video. What a moment!!!! As a Miamian and Floridian, having family gone back nearly 100 years - this moment was #1 in Miani Dolphins Football memories for me .
The story on why Thanksgiving football didn't take off in St. Louis is rather interesting. The NFL was unaware that the city had its own Thanksgiving football tradition with the Turkey Day Game and many in the area viewed the league's move as an attempt to upstage the long-established high school matchup. Along with both NFL contests being one-sided, the city's residents got their way and the NFL retreated, letting the Turkey Day Game continue.

One of the very cool random non-championship sports moments I was watching live as it happened. We really all thought Jimmy Johnson would strangle Lett during the post game press conference 😄
I love how your commentary flies in the face of history. That turned out to be Jimmy Johnson's final loss in Dallas and the Dolphins didn't win another game that year. So in spite of the loss the Cowboys were still elite and the Dolphins confidence from beating the champs didn't go very far.
The Kevin Williams slide into the end zone after the punt return was an iconic highlight during my youth. Cowboy games showed that highlight for years.
FINS UP?? Is that really the dolphins catch phrase? That's terrible dude, no offense, but hopefully by now they have a new one, I have never heard that before
Leon Lett, oh my goodness, gracious. Lol, that was a great thing to see that year, until my nines got killed later in the NFC championship game but Leon Lett should be remembered more as a great part of that team but will be remembered for the superb owl blunder and this moment. Great rewind secret base.
I remember watching this game at my now ex-wife's sister's house. Her brother was a huge Dolphins fan and a massive racist. It was one of the weirdest things I'd ever witnessed. He would yell racial slurs at the TV anytime a Black player on the Dolphins did something wrong. I didn't know people like that existed. Racists, sure but not racists who watched football and yelled slurs at their team's players. Until that day, I didn't know racists even watched football. Anyway, great video. Watching it brought back those memories of watching the game live. 👍👍
I would have bet large sums of money that you had already done a rewind on this one. Either way, great work... it will forever remain one of the great brainfarts in NFL history.
As a kid, i remember watching this, but i didn't REALLY understand what happened... and even in my recollection, I've just chalked this up to "some kind of crazy field goal play that ended up in a return for a touchdown".... which obviously was not the case... thanks for clearing this all up for me!!! LOL!! Killer Channel!!!
Leon is still a 3X Super Bowl champ.......regardless of the 2 infamous goof-ups.....and was a huge part of their defense, so it's all good no matter what.
Ironic part is this would be Miami's final win of the year - they would lose their last 5 games and miss the playoffs, while Dallas would win the Super Bowl.
It's telling that in their last three games Miami gave up 47, 45, and 33 points - the only times that season they gave up more than 27 points. By that point they'd lost their only good CB (Vincent), their starting FS (Oliver), and their starting MLB (Offerdahl) to injuries on a defense with no depth. They also Mike Golic (yes, that Mike Golic) starting at DT in his last NFL season as a mid-season injury replacement, and never had a good 3rd starting LB. All capped off by one of the worst punters (both gross and net averages) and weakest running games (25th out of 28 teams) in the league.
There's nothing like watching an SB Nation video, asking questions like "Why doesn't anybody laugh at Pete Stoyanovich falling onto his butt and sending a football straight into the arms of a Cowboy anymore??" and then realizing that the answer to that question is literally the rest of the video.
WHAT???? LMAO. I swear these are some of the most suspenseful, unpredictable stories. I was born in 94, so I had no idea where this was going. And once I thought it did, it went somewhere else. What a plot twist.

Phinz Up . Oh one more thing thank you for this video. Up until Lately its been hard being a dolphins fan So thank you for bring it back some great memories
Poor Leon Lett, the biggest turkey in 1993. I don’t think he’ll ever get over his Thanksgiving Day game against Miami let alone his near fumble return for a TD against the Bills in the Super Bowl. The reason I say this is because in the Super Bowl the Cowboys had already clearly dominated the Bills 52-17 so that strip by Don Beebee was pretty much meaningless while this block field goal and touch by Lett was what decided the game. Obviously two different situations and yet Leon has been picked on for both giving us a laugh and then swearing because he lost a regular season game for the Cowboys.
Later after the game Leon Lett got a letter from a little girl that said
"Don't feel bad Leon. Last year during the Superbowl a player was going score a touchdown only to slow down and fumble the ball so everyone makes mistakes." The player who fumbled in the Superbowl was Leon Lett.
