Cam Newton dismantling Alabama deserves a deep rewind | "The Camback"

  • The Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn is one of the fiercest rivalries in all of sports. It’s an in-state battle for bragging rights that never seems to end, whether there’s a game going on or not. Headed into the 75th Iron bowl in 2010, the stakes were a little different than normal. Instead of the Alabama Crimson Tide faithful gearing their hate towards the Auburn population as a whole, this time out they were more focused. They targeted Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton.
    Cam had made himself an easy target. Besides being the clear favorite for the Heisman trophy and leading his team to an undefeated record, Cam carried a lot of baggage from his previous stops. Before suiting up with Auburn, he started his collegiate career with the University of Florida. With the Gators he was more famously known off the field for stealing a laptop and possibly facing expulsion for academic misconduct. Fast forward to his 2010 season, and Cam and his father were being investigated by the NCAA for an alleged pay-for-play deal with Mississippi State. So yeah, even before the game kicked off the drama surrounding the nation’s best player that year was already intense.
    Once the game did kick off, Auburn was quickly reminded of how aggressive their Crimson Tide opponent was. Despite having a subpar year by their standards with a 9-2 record, the 2010 Alabama Crimson Tide team was coming off a championship, with a roster full of players who would go on to see quality NFL time. They opened up the game with a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter. But when you’re up against a quarterback as talented as Cam Newton, even a 24 point lead isn’t safe. To fully understand one of the greatest comebacks in college football, you need to understand the rivalry, the role reversal between these teams, and how a quarterback with the odds stacked against him rose to the top.
    To do all that, let’s rewind.

      @@roccos9777 I think CDR deserves a little more of the blame for that loss. He had a few more opportunities than Rose did and missed. That and Kansas deserves a hell of a lot of credit for taking advantage of the opportunities that Memphis gave them. Even with Memphis missing Kansas had to convert on the other end for those misses to mean anything. I mean that steal and three pointer by Sherron Collins was huge, Arthur drilling a long two pointer before that, Mario hitting free-throws when they had to have them, Mario's miracle three and then Kansas had to take care of business in OT. So it isn't just on an 18 or 19 year old D Rose.

And the against all odds onside kick and the two point conversion to push the Seahawks lead to three which they needed because Arron Rodgers is amazing and got into field goal range. Then to cap it off the Packers defense who had been suffocating all game crumbles in over time and allow Russell to deliver a dagger to jermaine Kearse to win the game. • @JoelCastro5206
      @JoelCastro5206 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samkmeyer4584 That game and its events had nothing to do with Seattle being good, that game was Green bay self destructing multiple times, Seattle didnt rally like you say, several small packers role players botched key moments and ended up being released because of it
      Tramon Williams told to break out into coverage incase of a fake field goal, instead attempts to tackle the punter who throws a 40 yard td to an offensive lineman(Also got burned on the final td)
      Brandon Bostick who admitted post game he wasnt supposed to even touch the ball, muffs the onside kick after being told specifically on the sidelines do not touch the ball you are there to block
      These 2 couldnt follow basic instructions and left the team as a result(one released the other allowed to leave for nothing) and i havent even mentioned how the defense allowed russel wilson to throw the ball 30 yards across the field on the two point conversion
      Also Rodgers wasnt amazing that game he played terrible, with a tornhamstring which as the game went on more and more became increasingly obvious he wasnt in the game fully, its a miracle they even got the last second field goal, not the mention the packers only scored 6 points in the second half, and credit seattles defense all you want but packer turnovers and Rodgers not being able to move in the pocket are the reason for that
      No matter how you attempt to paint it Seattle didnt rally or do anything amazing in that game, that game was entirely the packers exploding and failing to execute
