What keeps Marino in the conversation of great quarterbacks, even though he never won a championship, is that he was the quarterback all the other great quarterbacks wanted to be. Just solely by the eye test, he was the greatest quarterback anybody’d ever seen.
Despite the accolades, we've reached a point where Marino is now the most underrated QB in NFL history. He was doing things that modern QBs do, only decades before the league became a passing league. He is as good as any QB who ever played the game.
idk. He's the only QB that is consistently in the top 5 or top 10 with no ring. I feel like He's appropriately respected. He might be a little OVERrated, not because he wasnt' good, but because of the years outside of his 4 or 5 peak years, he's kinda mid even for his time. look at his actual career stats
@@jaysonb.6669 I might agree… but Brees at 41 years old, broke 11 ribs and punctured a lung in a game… THEN proceeded to complete 2 td drives before halftime. Brees toughness is proven
I don't really think he's underrated I think getting "the ring" is very overrated when we talk about individual players so others get elevated above him. Football is a team game, Brady doesn't win 6 rings without the stellar defense or the stars he had on offense.
That era was so fun to be a Colts fan. Sadly, though I am a season ticket holder now, I never got to see Peyton play live. Rarely did seats come available as I recall. Sure hope we can get back to that kind of winning, but it will never be like it was then.
I saw him play for 1 quarter in like week 15. But then I saw him play in Cincinnati as a bronco in his second to last regular season game. They won in OT
Us fans need to remember the mastermind behind our team, all credit goes to Bill Polian. Most players he drafted people made fun of then they ended up being one of the best at the position like Mathis and Freeney for example!! I do have hope in Steichen and Richardson especially with an RPO option
Yes. Marino was the MAN in college too. If only my Steelers had picked Marino they’d have been the team of 70s AND the 80s. Best pure passer to ever play the game.
It's so cool to see Peyton getting congratulated by Dan on broadcast, and how you can see the gravity it has on Peyton to surpass his hero's record, and also get that interaction with him right after. It's like a surreal thing for him, it seems.
That bit with Marino kills me, my Raiders were on the clock in the ‘83 draft and Marino was there for the picking…what could have been with the team The Raiders had then 😭
Saw Marino at the "MATM" in Myrtle..walked right by me and I couldn't find it in me to ask for an autograph..but I made sure to say "the fake spike killed me" .. He turned and smiled .. An absolute DAWG 🤝
I once heard Brett Favre giving Dan Marino the highest of compliments for his quarterback play. That coupled with having actually watched Dan's play during his career is good enough for me....Dan Marino was the man.
I remember going to a Buffet that has this awesome Chef. He put his heart and soul into his routine. He made desserts like Bananas Foster and presented it like it was a formal performance. It made for a great experience. One day he was released. When we came back, the dessert wasn’t presented at all…just scooped and plopped onto your plate. The replacement just did his job (which is fine). But realizing that there is SOMETHING special about people who take pride in their jobs. That’s when you realize you lost something. You always hope the next person in has that same trait. The Mannings definitely had that. We never knew why the guy left. Was he underpaid, did something happen personally? We don’t know. But it definitely taught a lesson. Appreciate those types of people while you have them in the league because when they are gone…you’ll miss them. Think about wrestling and how long it took the WWE to recover from losing guys like the Rock and Stone Cold. The Mannings vs Brady made for _THAT_ type of rivalry. And Hearing those “Omahas” or watching a presnap configuration go down to the 1 second mark…or watching a drive masterfully using the clock while moving the chains in the biggest of games…or seeing records broken…undefeated Goliaths defeated by Giants…or walking off into the sunset as a champs…it’s something I’ll miss. Watching Maholmes and Joe Burrow does give me a nostalgia. That’s how you keep the game alive.
Wow! What a deep QB draft that was!! I got to see Archie play I think twice. He was the king of play action he really hid the ball so well! I love how all of you throw wobblers, not perfect spirals. I think possibly easier to catch!
Think the two best QB's from the class of '83, were Dan Marino &John Elway, both had strong Arms, and were pretty accurate. The fact that I think they only played against each other once in a Monday Night Game. Was kinda sad, imagine if they'd faced off against each other in an AFC championship game, or even every other regular season. Might have been lots of scoring
The old man wasn't so shabby! And that Marino guy, his lasers weren't too shabby either. It took a long time to beat his 48 TDs record. It was just unheard of in the eighties.
This is awesome look back to the days I was little and watching football with my older brother and father (late 70's). Thanks. It actually explained a lot of the Cowboy, Steelers and Redskins dynasty years. Now that I am older and can understand the tight stats amongst the leagues makes the game even more alluring. Took a look back and loads of many great players including Mr. Manning.
Great respect for the Mannings & Marino. I never mention Marino’s fake spike play because his arm & career was too great to be remembered for a trick play.
Calling Dan Marino a generational tallet is a huge under statement..... Best QB ever! i dont think the dolphin's would be as popular as they are with out Dan Marino and the 72 Fins!
Brilliant football mind and great leader Payton manning. He could call the players for the whole team and let the poor old coaches drink apple juice on the side.
#1 Archie Manning did a brilliant job raising Payton and Eli… They show great respect to everyone, blue collar, they handle interviews with class, never throws anyone under the bus, they don’t get into trouble in their personal lives If you look up Peyton and Eli’s career they play every single game day in Day out #2 Peyton Manning’s 55 single season TD record will never be broken… Think of what has to be done to pass 55 TDs in a season, you have to stay healthy and also teammates, can’t get injured or teammates can’t get injured because if they do get injured, that’s gonna have a affect of breaking the record of 55 TDS If you break down what 55 TDs means is the QB being smart enough to call plays calls protection, staying away from 3ds and long, no penalties, have to be able to run the ball, have to be good in the red zone, cant throw interceptions or fumble Theres more but in order to break a 55 TD record, these things I eluded to must happen
Peyton there are clueless people out there who actually think your dad was a bum because all they did was look at his win loss record. You should throw a documentary together for the old man
I love how THE most athletic Manning, not Peyton, not Eli, not even Arch....is the old man Archie Manning. Also. I'm with Peyton...Dan Marino is THE MAN.
Favorite part is watching Dan and Peyton have a catch. Dan, while ignoring decades worth of arthritis, trying to throw a casual pass, not his normal professional pass which could easily break Peyton’s fingers. And yet, the same mechanics are all visible - breathes in, lifts & turns his shoulders, then the millisecond to release the ball

Payton and Eli are as important in their post-careers as they were during their playing careers. I LOVE the content.
1:28 Young Archie and Eli are practically doppelgängers. The resemblance is crazy even for a father and son.
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed.

one of the best to ever sling it
Imagine taking a walk in florida and seeing Peyton Manning and Dan Marino just casually throwing a football back and forth.
'Little things' like this in life are the best things. All time legends of their sport, just tossing around the pigskin like a couple of kids.
I could watch these all day. The respect that Peyton has for the game, the players, his opponents, everything... it cant be matched.

What's really crazy is Peyton broke that record 2 time 49 TD 2004 then 55 TD 2013. insane
i still can’t believe he got 55. that record won’t be broke for a long time.
@@drinkingpoolwater Even if its broken unless someone gets 56 in the first 16 games I wont consider it "broken" with a 17 game season

Then he broke Brady’s record in 2013

2 classy quarterbacks. Football has never been the same-especially since Peyton left. Miss you Peyton.
