That's because the Jets are one of the few teams with less superbowls than the Dolphns. Both trash teams.....but at least they are better than the Bills.
My family moved to Florida from England in about 89 and so I’ve been a Dolphins fan since. A lot of letdowns, but Marino was a shining light the entire time he played. He made things happen that had me and my dad jumping around the living room howling!
If the Raiders had drafted him in that time period, Marino would have at least 3 rings, they a great defense in the 80s. Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen in the backfield with him, Willie Gault, Todd Christianson, Mervyn Fernandez, to throw to.

Marino was the Mahomes of his day. A lot of similarities between the two. Marino was never the same after he blew his Achilles. They didn't repair them like they do, today. After the Achilles, he was a lot easier to contain. Before that, he was as elusive as he needed to be to make the play, much like Mahomes. Throughout his era, I think the top teams in the NFC were just too good in the trenches.
He was so awesome he went into the Hall of Fame the first year he was eligible and you knew those first two years once he came into the league that old he's definitely going into the Hall of Fame
My grandfather passed away in '83. He told me Marino and Elway would be some of the greatest to ever play pro football. 40 years later...gramps' picks were winners
Dan Marino was the equal of or (much) better than any quarterback who ever won a Super Bowl. He was the fastest, most pinpoint accurate passer the NFL has ever seen. And remember, through virtually Marino’s entire 17-year career, no other AFC team won a Super Bowl, until Terrell Davis joined the aging Elway & Broncos.
My favorite quarterback of all time is my favorite team of all time. I started watching the Dolphins when I was 11 years old. In 1988, I never looked back. It broke my heart in 2020 or 2021 when they changed the logo, I think it looks so stupid now I wish they just left well enough alone. Long Live number 13 I remember when you used to play football on Sunday mornings with all my buddies. I was always proud to wear my aqua blue number 13 Jersey. I can still remember mostly every play from 1990 on in every game highlight they show that's how into it I was when I was 12/13 years old compared to now it reminds me of the WWF and to be honest I can't even name a player off the Dolphins team today. Like the announcer was saying there's so many rules now that you can't even touch the quarterback but back then I remember when Merino broke as Achilles tendon he would still come out and play with a freaking ski boot on, and today you can't even touch these quarterbacks without getting a 15-yard penalty which is horrible and that's why a lot of his records were broken but like everything else they pussified everything in this day and age and you can't even touch the quarterback because God forbid they get a little boo boo. I'd like to see Tom Brady come out and play with a torn Achilles tendon and basically have to wear a ski boot to protect it. It'll never happen, and plus, we all know Miami never ever had a running game, so most of those wins and playoff wins came directly off the arm of Marino. But anyway, I'm not the type to come up here and cry and make excuses. I just know what Marino was capable of and what one man can only do on a 11 Man offensive team
The 1990's was filled with astonishing quarterbacks. We ain't even gonna get into all the kings that came outta the 1980's, yo. That was the age of the Titans, b.
Even after all these years, I don't think I've ever enjoyed watching any football player as much as I did Dan Marino. The guy was just amazing and it was sad to see the Dolphins miss on so many draft picks that attempted to shore up the defense and running game as those were glaring weaknesses that really limited the team's ceiling.
I’ve been watching a lot of old Miami dolphin games from the 80s on TH-cam. Two things stand out Tony Nathan was a good running back who averaged about 5 yards per carry for his whole career. He actually averaged 5 yards per carry,if you take out his first two years. He just didn’t get a lot of carries. Also for his career his reception yards and running yards were just about equal. The other thing is almost every time Marino threw the ball he was getting clobbered, right after he threw the ball . Dan Marino was tough.
I am of kind of rare opinion here, but I put MARINOS prime yrs of non playoffs squarely on DON SHULA,he had Dan,MARKS BROS,crash, but could not put a D unit together at that point to save his life and then when SHULA finally started drafting some studs on that side of the ball,OFFERDAHL,COX,BOWENS,VINCENT,Plus adding S LOUIS OLIVER,they had some PCs in place and u could just tell the main problem early 90's was they lacked consistency and the even bigger issue was they did not make in game or second half adjustments and that's what lead to so many shootouts along with the run game being lackluster at best, but imo I still say it was SHULA not getting rid of OLIVIDOTTI for another crucial stretch of MARINOS final Prime yrs,so that 8 yrs run which was MARINOS PRIME yrs there was NEVER,EVER a complete team around him however I do feel if they had a better DC in the early to mid 90's especially the 92-94 seasons they had a chance to catch Buffalo,in 92 they were at home in the AFC title GM as div winners and that is one of those times I'm saying, would have been nice to bail Dan out fir a game and at least keep it close and give him a chance to win it but ended up in a blowout, per usual!!
Thank you for sharing Ray, many of us did not get to witness those days of one of the games best to ever play. Your recollection is neat to read through. Thanks for watching The Halftime Show!
Apart of his physical skills, which were superb, he was also extremely competitive and would fight till the last second. I remember a game where he threw five interceptions in a row and somehow he ended winning it. He would get in the face of teammates DURING the game, but never point fingers AFTER the game, even if they deserved it. The Dolphins didn’t do right by him and were always a flawed team without a running game or a decent defense. He deserved at least one ring, but I’m proud of how he represents them now. Dan is the man, and will always be.
5:37: "That game against the Steelers is one of the fondest of Marino's career"......His hometown team passed him up in the draft. One of the dumbest mistakes by the Steelers, they passed up the pure passer ever.
Yes, Marino was the goat, unfortunately his chances of winning a ring were undermined by a cheap owner, for those too young to remember, Dolphins went for years signing 1st, 2nd and 3rd round drafts picks halfway through the season, and the mystery of Tom Olivadotti being kept in Miami for so long. However you have to credit Shula for developing Marino to that level. When Marino arrived Shula scrapped the early 70's Dolphins power run scheme and pulled out from the shelf another one of his playbooks from an era when he coached the Colts with another great, Johnny Unitas. PS Don Shula was not only the goat, but also genius and a pioneer of the game. Dolphins fan since 1970

Dan Marino was a very talented young athlete when he graduated high school. Could have been a MLB player, but he chose football instead. The guy had the quickest release of any QB I've seen to this day and he could throw the ball down the field whenever needed. Always hear people try to down play what he accomplished because his team never won a Super Bowl. That may be true, but trying to use a TEAM TROPHY to judge the talent on an individual player, is asinine. Dan Marino IS one of the Top 10 QB's in the history of the NFL.
Broncos fan back then but for a guy with no offensive help, no 1000 rusher…Dan carried that franchise on his dam arm🤣for a statue that never ran out the pocket Dan was a pure passer if I ever saw one.
As a lifelong Jets fan, Marino was the guy I loved to hate the most when I was a kid - especially considering that the Jets were one of the teams that had passed on Marino only to draft a different QB named Ken O'Brien. Ken was a good QB, but never consistently reached the elite level of play that Marino did. I've always wondered how good the Jets would have been if they drafted Marino instead of O'Brien. Oh well. Woulda. Coulda. Shoulda. He was a great player and real Jets killer. I hated him (for killing the Jets more often than not) but respected the heck out of him.
Don Shula is said to have told his assistant coaches after seeing Danny for only two weeks of his rookie training camp, to start force feeding him the playbook, make him call all his own plays to get him ready to start. Dan entered his first game in week 6 and never looked back.
@@9999deoxys They went to the SB in Dan's second year but the 49ers had a much superior team with both sides of the ball loaded with Pro bowl/HOF talent. After that the Dolphins team got old around Dan as it was very much a veteran team (having been to the SB the year before dan was drafted. The Dolphins had some bad injury luck when Dan played but they had a couple very good teams but just didn't get by to the SB again. But it was never dan's fault...he was always spectacular and carried the team single handedly for many many games/seasons.
@@9999deoxys I saw them both play in their prime and I would disagree...Bob was a very talented QB, but his championship teams were loaded with HOF and All-Pro talent...Bob's OL was perhaps the best ever or at least in that argument and his defense was also ranked at the top of the league. Shula and the Dolphin front office were not able (poor drafting and some very unlucky injuries to top picks that looked promising) to build a championship level team around Dan and the couple years Dan did have the talent the cards just didn't fall right and there were teams with better talent 9the Bills on their SB teams).
I was an avid Dolphin fan long before Marino came on board. Marino was clearly an exceptional qb that looked to be unstoppable but was. It was tough to watch the amazing Shula and Marino flaunt such skill but fail to really achieve much, despite being contenders for most of the 80s/90s. What I most remember is how temperamental Marino could be when things didn't go his way. I got the feeling that there wasn't great chemistry between the two (Shula/Marino) and often wondered if this was partly to blame for their lack of ultimate success. By the time Marino had settled down a bit, the team lacked talent in many positions and it just seemed like timing was never on his side.
While I think he gets a bit too many excuses for his playoff shortcomings, him never winning a SB doesn't negate the fact he was a master of pocket presence. The fastest release of all time and nigh impossible to sack.
Duper and Clayton, the Marks Brothers. The Dolphins under Marino made the Shotgun a now common offensive formation. Later in his career Marino wore a visible knee brace that made him extremely slow and vulnerable in the pocket which is one reason for the constant shotgun position. It gave him a few more steps on the rush. Although he never won a Superbowl I would pick him any day over Bledsoe. Not saying it would be the wise decision but man I loved the 80's and early 90's Dolphins. 🏈
The best passer ever. No defense. No running game. The one year he led the Dolphins to the Super Bowl, they still had the remnants of a great 1970's defense. Jimmy Johnson coaches, defense improves 300%!!! So...in the tone of cold stark reality...Don Shula WRECKED the growth of that team into a last ditch 4 or 5 seasons with J.J. as coach. The running game also improved greatly when J.J. got there. 🤔
Lol at Pittsburgh passing on Marino over partying and picking Rivera who was just as legendary for pounding beers as sacks in his time on the south plains in Lubbock ( rip)
How good was Marino? I had season tickets in Miami throughout his career, so I got to see him up close, and for me he’s the greatest pure passer in the history of the game. He routinely threw over 4,500 yds a year and of course had the 1 over 5,000 when that was unheard of, and a good completion % was around 57%. Only Montana/Young in the original version of Walsh’s offense had completion % in the 60’s and the 70’s which is routine today, simply didn’t exist. Marino in his prime under today’s NFL rules would routinely throw for over 5,000, probably flirt with 6,000 and easily have a completion % over 70%. While he was not mobile, he had incredible footwork in the pocket and was very hard to sack simply because he made his reads and got rid of the ball so quickly, with that incredible quick release throwing motion. And this was all without any running game after his 2nd season, when the entire world knew he was throwing the ball. The Dolphins’ offense during his years under Shula was very much ahead of its time, similar to Air Coryell. If the team had been able to give him a defense, they would’ve won several Super Bowls with Dan.
Dan Marino was extremely reliable at his position. He's almost always had a top O LINE and outstanding receivers. When the dolphins went to the super bowl in his second year, he still had the remnants of a great 70's defense and running game to go with his passing accuracy, and power.
Marino's super-power was his incredibly quick release - his accuracy was up there with the best as well - but the fast release allowed him to avoid so many sacks - he still took plenty of hits after getting the pass away - as this was back when defenders were still allowed to hit the QB and not draw a flag very often ..
Die heart pats fan and Tom Brady fan. Tom threw 50 TDs when the rules favored QBs. Dan threw 48 when you could borderline murder the QB with no rules to protect them. He may be the best QB in NFL history who never won a ring.
Anytime someone brings something up about Marino, I always think about Kelly up there in Buffalo. He’s an interesting story too, all those superbowl losses plus his home life, surviving cancer and losing his only son to some rare disease.
But there really is no comparison when you consider that Kelly played good enough to help his team win 4 Conf. Championships and Marino played good enough to help his team win only 1 Conf. Championship. Twice, in '91 and '93 Kelly had a Defense that was Ranked 27th out of 28 teams using OFFICIAL NFL Rankings.
On top of that, Kelly outplayed Marino all 3 times they met in the playoffs, including the '92 Conf. Championship Game that was played in Miami. Plus, Kelly played his team into position to win the '90 S.B. game only to have his kicker (Scott Norwood) miss the game-winning field goal.

Right. How did he manage to throw away or not come prepared for playoff games. Spellbinding. Waste of physical "talent". Not tough enough.
Spellbinding to see such a regular seasaon stat guy fail every single year in the playoffs and waste 2 decades of the Dolphins SB window,
Dan Marino is the one reminder that gootball is first and foremost a TEAM game.
No running game, I believe he only had one 1000 yard back in his career, NO defense, Dan Marino had given the Dolphins a lead in 38 of his games in the 4th quarter, only to watch his defense surrender that lead 23 times.
In the playoffs, every team knew exactly what Miami was going to do, and Dan Marino still would pull it off,
Only to watch his defense let him down again and again......
Any one player can ruin it for the team.
Dude delivered modern numbers back when the NFL still allowed defenses to play real football
Exactly! Couldn't even imagine how well he'd do in todays game
joe montana say he was the best thats good enough for me
two trash QBs
Factz 💯
Dan was simply great! His passing skills were epic. I hope TVD from Miami will watch some of his film to get his footwork techniques.
How about some of his playoff loss techniques. every single year
He was the best pocket passer ever.
best stat man ever.....bad playoff record when it counted.
As a dolphin and Marino fan I remember the heartbreak in each one of those playoff losses.
Nice video. Hadn’t watched anything from your channel before but I’m definitely going to subscribe and keep my eye out for more :)
Thank you Damien 🚀
@@thehalftimeshow you’re welcome. Thank you for your efforts and work. 😎
AS A JETS FAN SINCE THE MID 60'S I CAN VOUCH FOR DAN MARINO BEING TRULY ONE OF THE GREATEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's because the Jets are one of the few teams with less superbowls than the Dolphns. Both trash teams.....but at least they are better than the Bills.
As a phins fan from the early 90s, Dan was my hero as a kid. Not winning a SB and just having one appearance is just criminal.
Only reason his records were broken is because of panzy rule changes to protect the qb and receivers. Put flags on them!
84 was the best statistical year by a QB. You have to look at what his competitors were doing at the time. He was doubling what most QB’s were doing.
Correct....Marino was a stat guy, not a winner.
The greatest QB ever, period.
Oooooh
delusional
@9999deoxys yes you are.
My family moved to Florida from England in about 89 and so I’ve been a Dolphins fan since. A lot of letdowns, but Marino was a shining light the entire time he played. He made things happen that had me and my dad jumping around the living room howling!
Excellent memories!
If the Raiders had drafted him in that time period, Marino would have at least 3 rings, they a great defense in the 80s. Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen in the backfield with him, Willie Gault, Todd Christianson, Mervyn Fernandez, to throw to.
Great job on the Dan Marino video there might be some goats but as far as throwing a football Dan Marino was like Jesus in a football uniform I was blessed to watch him play three different times in real life seeing him throw a football in real life it was like watching Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt win races there will never be another one like him he is Far and Away the man
Give his receivers lots of credit too! Did you mentioned he gave the unbeatable steam rolling one of the best teams ever Bears their only loss in that season on Monday night?
Nobody cares about the regular season.
He was the best QB to ever play the game, period.
I know he has no rings - so what.
He is miles better than anyone else that has ever thrown a ball.
He had probably the strongest Arm ever, and he had the quickest release ever. He has the lowest sack rate ever to this day.
think jeff george had strongest arm but that release def the quickest with strength.
Boy, Marino in today's game with free running receivers, and QB protection rules......Dan was made for today's game.
He would have absolutely shredded the modern game in his prime. It would have been something to see.
@scottpoyer5678 , Seriously, what might have been.
It also begs the AFC Championship matches between the Dolphins and the Chiefs.
They would be epic.
not if it was the playoffs...he would lose like he did every single year. - ZERO SUPERBOWLS
@@9999deoxys , Wrong. They've changed the rules to favor the passing game. Marino would destroy the current passing records, including the playoffs.
He said as much himself.
He believes he would have passed for 6,000 yards in today's game.
@@davidgraham2673 What a surprise, Arrogant Dan said it himself. He had his change for a decade and failed every year. I would rather wear a Bob Griese shirt.
Only QBs get blamed for not single handedly winning a 22 man team game.
He was so good he would be illegal in todays game.
He was so bad in the playoffs he would be illegal for a team to choose to play him.
@@9999deoxys No not really. He played good as an individual player in the playoffs, he just lacked a team to help him win
@@TheJusticefornone 1999 Fins vs Jags playoffs - : Dan Marino (11-25, 95 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions).
He was so awesome he went into the Hall of Fame the first year he was eligible and you knew those first two years once he came into the league that old he's definitely going into the Hall of Fame
Man, I'm the biggest Danny Marino fan ever, and this is a GREAT video! Well done
Marino is a legend. Thank you for the kind words ChasTerran!
That is too bad not winning any SB. He was still outstanding.❤
I watched him on anygiven weekend while he played.
So you summarized "Dan Marino A football life" and used all the footage from it too. Great video.
Thanks for sharing Johnny
Marino had the Cannon of All Cannons and was as Tough as Nails. In my book Marino is the King without a Ring
The crazy numbers and the records he had including unsackable streak in a time when defenses could murder you on the field.
The "GOAT"!!!
ridiculous
You're spot on with the Olividotti opinion. At least he wasn't as bad as Marv Levy in 4 superbowls. heehee
The Greatest Ever.
5:37: "That game against the Steelers is one of the fondest of Marino's career"......His hometown team passed him up in the draft. One of the dumbest mistakes by the Steelers, they passed up the pure passer ever.
Dan Marino is one of my all-time favorites!
Happy birthday To Dan Marino 9/15/ from Friday the 13th to independence day at Honduras 9/15 go Marino.
Dolphins fan since 1970
Great insight to those days. Thank you for sharing.
Oh and as far as him not being able to run real fast and all that we must not forget he had a serious knee injury at the University of Pittsburgh and he wore a knee brace in his NFL career bless you missed one season with an Achilles so actually even though it says he was in the NFL for 18 he only played 17 years
Dan Marino is a great man. He helps children in need. That's what we call a superhero.
Saw him play in his first preseason game vs Dallas. Was clearly David Woolley’s quick replacement.
Dan The Man period
Dan the Man who never won a superbowl Exclamation Point.
@9999deoxys Well that's a TEAM effort Try harder
@@tyrannicaltypomichaeltester I agree. And Dan the Man is not the type of guy who makes those around him better. He cares more about regular season stats.
@9999deoxys lol Good Joke Took two ok WR and made them HOFs they literally said that so facts >>> Your opinion or hate whichever it is. You xant take away that he held every QB record for 20+ Yeats in a tougher run first era and STILL holds some records. Or the fact that he changed the game or the fact he was the best pure oasser therr ever was
@@tyrannicaltypomichaeltester He was the best pure passer. I actually agree. That is the probem. He had so much talent and wasted all those years for the Dolphins in the playoffs because he simply was not good in the playoffs. He was very good in regular season. Most people dont care about regular season. Griese was better for the history of the Fins.
Dan's the man.
Marino is the greatest QB ever. Even Montana has said that.
How good was he? He's the GOAT. Even Montana said so
Dan Marino was scary. Good I'm a big Elway fan. Dan Marino had an arm too
Broncos fan back then but for a guy with no offensive help, no 1000 rusher…Dan carried that franchise on his dam arm🤣for a statue that never ran out the pocket Dan was a pure passer if I ever saw one.
Thank you for sharing Steven
marino is the goat, 1 man cant carry an entire team in the nfl
Don Shula is said to have told his assistant coaches after seeing Danny for only two weeks of his rookie training camp, to start force feeding him the playbook, make him call all his own plays to get him ready to start. Dan entered his first game in week 6 and never looked back.
and wasted several years of Dolphins teams chances for winning superbowls.

My only question is, where did his dad learn the quick release. Marino had the prettiest throwing motion almost revolutionary
How good??? The Best Ever.
An incredible insight. Thank you Jeffrey.
Facts. Thank you for sharing Billy!
He had 87 career rushing yards in the NFL. Elway had 3500
Talking about throwing. Running well thats barry sanders. Goat
Extremely good. Definitely top 4-5 ever.
If I could give two SB rings to the two most deserving players it would be Dan Marino and Barry Sanders
The strength of the team was the WRs should have traded Duper or Clayton to get what they were weak at
Have you ever heard of Chuck Ealey who played at the University of Toledo? Only undefeated quarterback in college history.
I have not, but will look into him.
There's nothing he didn't do from reading defenses, foot work, accuracy, at Hall of fame level. That covers it. 😎 Been a football fan for 55 years.
Die heart pats fan and Tom Brady fan. Tom threw 50 TDs when the rules favored QBs. Dan threw 48 when you could borderline murder the QB with no rules to protect them.
He may be the best QB in NFL history who never won a ring.
The difference is Brady was great when it really mattered. Marino was just a regular season quarterback who choked in the playoffs
Dan Marino and David Hasselhoff could be Brothers or Cousins
I’d take him over Tom Brady all day long
For today's youthful NFL fans, he could throw easily as good as Rogers.
Pretty damn good
I've never seen a better quarterback. that release with that arm was unreal. all the intangibles too. took charge right off the bat. that front office failed him
