    It won't get much better than with the Golf R :-)

    "Stealerships" - LOL! Got that right. Wind noise in my s2000 was pretty loud. Never really bothered me too much though. I could see it being too extreme for some though.

    I have a golf r, although I’ll still keep it another 2/3 years I’ll be looking at a c43 amg!! It’s going to interesting to see how they depreciate in a years time

    Hi Jay Kay, excellent videos mate! I've got a GTI 2015 at 21 years old and I'm thinking about next car already 😂 I'm thinking maybe a full on M car in about 5 years time but it's hard to replace a car like GTI/R because they do everything so well and you don't really need anything more (I wish gti came with awd)

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate! Yeah in reality to get the same knife edge performance and power with grip you'd be looking at the Porsche 911 s. These cars are phenominal!

      Agreed you have to spend much more to get a realistic replacement. This is your fun car you said though, and I think the ideal is a utility car and a fun car. You have the utility car apparently so for the money I’d just go for the fun side and get an MX-5 with nicer tyres - donate the balance to charity, your kids school fund, etc. (But then I think the ideal is an R for her and an mx-5 for me.) You could also keep the R and get rid of the utility car if it’s enough car.

    Get a bog standard 718 Cayman for 40k and add connect plus for £800, it will be much better as a fun toy weekend but useable every day car as per your description. Mid engined, faster, it's a boxer 4 cylinder unlike the golf r, and the general driving experience is just better. And the booster is better too. The 60k car will have been a well optioned car, also being the S, and dealers are selling them as high as they are because the demand is so high they aren't losing value.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Has it got the same chassis as the Cayman s then?

    • @JamesMorgan
      @JamesMorgan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the entire 718 platform is on the same chassis, the difference is basically just engines and then interchangeable parts (which are almost entirely optional anyway) - ie. suspension. I have a mk7 R too, and if it wasnt for it being my every day car and practicality being key, I would take a 718 Cayman in a heartbeat. Im close friends with staff at an OPC, and used to have a 911 myself, and the driving experience, general cabin quality and design etc etc makes it a totally different experience to the golf. Especially with engine behind you!

    Greetings from Cali. I recently purchased a 17 MK7 Golf R DSG DCC DAP and absolutely love it. Being in sunny California I'm able to enjoy my R year round. I wouldn't get rid of it. Keep it if you can.

    C43 AMG? 6 cylinders, amazing interior, if you get one with the sports exhausts it sounds amazing and next year you can have one for sub 40k

      i definitely will do closer the time when replacement is due. I know porsche is an awesome brand. Which boxter do you own and how long have you had it? My friends wife swears by hers, but her dad buys her cars for her lol

      +Jay Kay Mine is the 987 S. You're right about it being loud on motorways etc, but for weekend blasts I've given up trying to find something else (tried M235i etc - great cars but miss the feeling of it being an 'event', even at low speeds. Amazing balance, 6cyl and hydraulic steering, all for £10k and now seem to be holding their value...

      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ah 6cylinders! Yes that is something id be interested in and like you say the good thing about older cars is that they have hit bottom where prices are concerned. One thing is certain i want more than 4cylinders

    Im in a similar situation to you Jay, had my R since August and changing it next year, there's not much out there that is faster for the cost of the R. I'm currently looking at the Mercedes A45 AMG, 0-62 in 4.2, priced it up tonight and spec'd it to the same level as our R....£47,575!!! Pisstake!

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bloody hell!! I test drove the a45 amg before I bought my golf r and found the R to be far more fun to drive. whatvdo you think you'll go for?? If you have to have a hatchback the choices really are limited other than buying another R

      you know the m4 is a awesome machine, there loads for sale on auto trader that are cat D lol. Cheap as chips though so I'm tempted to buy a Cat D now and play with that for a year along side my Golf R... That'd be interesting!

    • @deanpedley
      @deanpedley 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I would buy a cat d if the price was right its only minor cosmetic damage on a cat d...Have you driven a m4 if you havent jay go test drive one.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not yet mate but BMW crowd think it's a great motor and I haven't seen one on the roads where I live. There is an m2 here but not an m4 so if I get one I'd probably go for the convertible. I will test drive one and see. Might do a video of it!

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      M5's are the best value though!! You can get 14plates the same cost as an m4. Surely the m5 is the car to go for in that case??

    • @deanpedley
      @deanpedley 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes i do prefer both the m3 and m5 over the m4...definitely want a beemer next ive owned a few older ones over the years a few friends still have e46 m3,s to this day never seems to really date the e46 imo,many bmw enthusiasts still love the e46 ....they got to right though with the newer models we see today

    Usually when dealers sell 16/66 plate cars they're normally either ex demonstrators and or cars they lease to their sales team. For the 60k region I'd be looking at C63/M3 territory, but saying that they don't really compare to the Golf R as it's a hatch. I've just placed deposit on an S3 and I'm already wondering what's next...

    • @TheLJC_
      @TheLJC_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      M2 is a great shout as you say. Could also consider the new RS3 saloon but I know you say the 'normal' RS3 Is too similar to the R.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      possibly! I wouldnt touch an ex demonstrator, thse things get hammered from the off! It's funny you should say that, i was saying to a friend of mine that for this money you could get a approved used M5! Thats another car id love to try, even though it goes against my RS6 choice of heading more into muscle car territory. Just looking on autotrader now, there are loads of 14 reg M5's for 40k... thats a lot of car for the money!!

    • @ricky8836
      @ricky8836 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      also cars can be sold as 'brand new' with delivery miles by the dealer but as they're registered with a dealer they now have an owner on the logbook. A lot of buyers don't notice and it detracts from the resale value of car i.e. not being a one owner vehicle.

  • @anthony55964
    @anthony55964 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Surely you'd want to keep your R a little while longer jay? What money would you recoup if you sold/part ex the R now?

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah im not selling my R for another year at least. I've had a quick look re the value of it currently and its worth about £28,500 if i sold it privately. Not sure about part ex but we buy any car offered me £24,000 for it

      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol meanwhile back on planet earth - a quick search on auto trader shows 16 plate R's for sale at £30,000... And you didn't buy this R?? Man if you go on the VW website right now the R (in manual form with NO kit is over £28k). Sorry but i don't think you got quoted the same spec R as mine for 28k bro. Enjoy the dreaming though. In fact there are several R's on there with 4k miles for 35k mate... pmsl

      Jay Kay scotchegg could well be telling the truth, its a Golf.. heavy discounts are offered its not uncommon, as far as I'm aware you bought from a local dealer? so there's a good chance you could have got a lot more discount had you gone elsewhere

  • @ricky8836

      I test drove a 9 FQ320 back in 2006 and it was a brilliant car! Arent reliability a bit of a problem with these cars though? That and they drink fuel where mpg is 19mpg on the 320?

      Jay Kay I've gone for the V6 coupe (340hp). As Jag are bringing out the 2018 spec and March plates are pending you can pick up a very good deal. 100% worth taking a look at what's left in the showrooms!

  • @aslanbarsk

    Maybe the new Skoda RS with a Tune, will give you abpve 300hp. :) But then again you would keep the Golf right? I would do go for a BMW 125d with a tune (270hp) or perhaps a 140i. depends on what route you wanna go... Audi TT route could be cool as well..

    The M2 engine is single turbo not twin turbo(2 turbo chargers). Its the twin scroll bit which seems to confuse a lot of people. M140i and M240i might be worth a look too?

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      really!? I thought i read they were twin turbo... thats a bummer! Yes possibly, theres so many options... the M240i id defintely take a look at. A friend of mine mentioned a 12 reg 335i as well that he thinks might be a possible. Looks a bit under powered to me though but a lovely looking car.

      @ricky8836 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jay I was going to get a 2nd hand Golf R, but someone has thrown a spanner in the works by tempting me with a BMW 335d x drive, 0-60 in 4.9, over 300BHP., 4 wheel drive, shed loads of torque, excellent MPG (Well, for that performance), am I mad?

    • @jaykay7932

    Hello mate, it's been a while, wouldn't you go for a 2nd hand car like a 2009 R8 or a GT-R?

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello mate, yes i was wondering where you'd been lol. Im not sure about that because super cars can be costly if anything goes wrong. The rule i go by is make sure you have enough spare money to cover the most expensive failure. For example i paid £7k for my landcruiser but i know that if something major went wrong it could cost upto £15k which i can afford. So thats how i determine which used car i buy

    • @ricky8836
      @ricky8836 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! People have to budget within their means. Fuel, servicing AND potential repairs all have to be taken into account.

  • @robm1108
    @robm1108 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    ok. so the Caymen started as the boxster so the chassis is impeccable because as it was a soft top to begin with.
    All 911TT's are 4 wheel drive. only the GT2 was turbo with rear wheel drive.
    I'm lucky enough to have owned many of the cars you mention temporarily) here in Dubai over the last decade.. I'm not rich just a petrol head so if you'd like any owner based advice feel free to reach out.
    currently own a gt4 and ironically considering a golf R to run in tandem and keep the gt4 mileage down.
    my 2c worth as an R replacement within a reasonable budget? Try a 2013 (facelift) Audi RS5.
    you'll love it and it does everything well like the R, but will feel more special (V8, even better sound, luxury etc.)
    depends if you care about petrol costs living in UK!

    I would just get the most out of your golf mate for the next few years. Don't see why you would need more power (usable on roads), so should be more than enough. Some people are never content, asking what's next lol. You seem to be more than happy so for as long as that lasts why Change?

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely, the golf r is probably the best car in the world for the money at the moment. Excellent motorway cruiser too if you have DSG. I was in a really bad traffic jam on the A1m a few weekends ago in my R and behind me was an aston martin. It was quite funny watching him having to change gear as traffic was starting and stopping, where i just put ACC on and let the car handle all the crap lol.

    • @Chloe-dz9fy
      @Chloe-dz9fy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jay Kay yeah mate I'm glad I chose dsg although it will probably take some getting used to coming from manuals all my life. I'll have a 2 hour drive from the dealership to get used to it so should be fun lol.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whose the dealership? Is it jct600?? They seem to offer brilliant laid back test drives which are really long. It takes a bit of getting used too, but I've started usinnsports auto now when sprinting as I'm lazy! Sports auto is brilliant though, keeps the revs just right

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry you're driving it home lol. Yeah just put it in eco mode, drive it home steady then change up and down gears every so often. Then to get it back into auto again just hold down the right shifter until you see the 'e' infront of the fear number on the dashbaord

      Jay Kay dealership was Volkswagen Halifax mate. The car is perfect for me. Little like a wolf in sheep clothing lol. Weather was crap today unfortunately but enjoyed the drive back and love the acc for motorway driving. Wouldn't ever chip the car as I value my warranty, and to be honest I can't see me ever needing anymore power. It's surprisingly fast. Love it.

For example i nearly bought a 360 modena spider back in 2013 (before their prices sky rocketed so id have actually made a lot of money if id bought one!!), for it to do 3000 miles a years cost approximately £6000. This includes servicing, insurance and the odd breakdown. I know a porsche would be cheaper but it would be likely you'd experience a mechanical problem in one form or another, so you'd need a lot of spare cash just in case

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming i sell my R and get at least 20k for it in two years i should have 50k to play with. No i doubt id be able to afford a super car within the next year or two because the cost of repair if anything major went wrong. If i were to make a real gamble id look at either a R34, the 35 as you say or an older porsche 911, or even and older Audi R8

    • @jaykay7932

      Yes but you're missing several important differences between the m2 and the rs3. Rear wheel drive. 6 cylinders. Superior handling. The m2 is a step closer to a sports car

    • @Harpreet06
      @Harpreet06 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes no doubt. I was only saying because that was the only reason you gave for not going to the RS3. What do you think about the Mercedes A45 AMG or Nissan GTR?

    • @ninjageezer6802

      Golf R beat the RS3 round the track because the Audi handled crap

    • @Harpreet06
      @Harpreet06 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that's true but you don't buy a car just based on how it is on the track. Otherwise no one would buy the Golf R, the Seat Leon cupra and Focus RS beat it on track, probably the civic type R too. The RS3 is fine on the road and that 5 cylinder engine is a beauty. Great straight line performance too with people getting under 4 seconds 0-60 times.

    • @jaykay7932

      On public roads (not driven either on track) they feel the same. The Audi sounds better with its 5cylinders but the price difference meant for me the golf r was a bargain. Of course you can argue the rs3 has held its value better than the r but it's very hard to prove that because specs are all over the place, plus the rs3 would have cost s lot more to run and maintain

I just put a comment on their wall showing my frustration!! I think the only way to be sure is go and test r=dtive the car yourself... which unfortunately isn't possible with the M2. Fortunately though there are far cheaper better BMW alternatives... Look how cheap 14reg M5's are lol. I think what i might do though is stage 1, 2 and 3 my R before letting it go and seeing what that sort of power feels like in a small car

      I agree with what you are saying about how they have gone back on what they said originally, but in their defence they don't lie about the fact, they said in the ECOTY video that they initially loved this car on the track and smooth roads but once they got it on real roads they realised how bad it was..... so at least they ain't hiding from the initial review.
      But, maybe they should have taken it to the 'real roads' in the bloody first place!

    PS: M2 is not twinturbo. All the 3.0L are from 2011 (if I'm not wrong) single turbo (twin scroll, so again if I'm not wrong it has one hot turbo with two compressors, scrolling through them.. but still single turbo). Cayman/Boxster S might be single turbo but it's a one hell of a setup... it's a variable geometry turbine. Just like the only other petrol car that has a VGT... 911 Turbo S
