    Super good review. Aiming to get one near the end of the model's life cycle.

      thanks mate. The M2 is a fantastic car. Im very happy with my Golf R and will keep it now until 3 years time, but if i were to go back in time, i personally would choose the BMW M2 as it suits my personal needs more (all i want is a weekend toy so dont need practicality of the Golf )

    Yeah, great video on a great car. About the interior: I dont know what people expect - it is a good interior - descent quality and all the tech you need, plus a good sound system. But this car is not about the interior, it is about the drive. My god it goes. I am lucky enough to own one btw.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're a very lucky guy! Exactly. Look at the mclaren f1. Probably the worse interior ever for a car! People who bought it didn't care though, they just wanted the performance. Same as a Porsche gt3 Rs. Crap interior!!

      I couldn't agree with you more, I have an M2 also and I always enjoy every minute in mine, I've had M performance coil-overs fitted and it's now more of a proper race car. Love it.

    great video m8 . glad i found ya .. im test driving the golf R this monday which i cant wait but want the 235i sooooo bad also
    but my price range id 20k ..
    wondering if you would miss the 4x4 of the golf compared to the rear wheel drive of the bmw as these roads in the u.k as you know are more wet than dry.. cant wait for the next video :>

    Well my dad owns an M2 and what a car! To be honest i don't see any problems with the quality of the interior, personally i think its very nice. After having it for about 3 or 4 months I've completely fallen in love with the car. I would certainly recommend it :)

      Jay Kay I've driven the 4.2 v8 and that was an animal, it was very dated interior but the car was fantastic, I had it on a horrendous day and the traction control was flawless, if you can get your hands on one 100% do it, the sound is gorgeous too 👍🏻 the latest one I'd really like to try, as we're very similar drivers, by that I mean what we look for an enjoy in a car, I'd be interested to see your views on that one

  • @robbieshaft

    These M2's are the most exciting car available at the moment. Over 365bhp from that size of car that looks that good, pure perfection. BMW got it spot on with this car and because of that they really need to pull the M3 and M4's socks up. I've always preferred an M3 but eventhough the M2 has less power etc. I'd still take an M2 over the M3 or M4, they are just so cool and sound a lot better too

    Great Video. Loved your input since I currently own a 2016 Golf R (DSG) and was able to snag someones M2 allocation that is already in production that will show up in early May. I really do like the Golf R and the DSG is fantastic but I can't say I love the DSG even though I know it is faster than the manual version. I sold my motorcycle recently so I want something a little more lively for my only vehicle so I decided on a M2 w/ manual transmission. I can not wait!

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It'll most likely be mymnext car. I'll keep the golf r at least another couple of years though. Do some
      Nice road trips in it. Im test driving the Porsche Cayman gts in an hour. Did you test drive a Porsche before buying your m car?

    • @bazgab2738
      @bazgab2738 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not test drive any Porsche, although I would love to own one. My only Porsche experience is around 10 years ago and driving my now father-in-law's 996 cabriolet a few times. I would need at least a Cayman S and I would be looking at around a 50% price increase over the M2 for the Porsche to have a few key options I would want. I also have one young child and another on the way so I require back seats, although kid carrying duty is a rare occurrence for me.

    ive driven a m240, m2 and m4 back to back. long story short, My deposit is on a m2. its hands down the best of 3. m240 is a fast rep car, m2 is a sports car. i agree with you on the focus rs. i drove the m2 first and the rs felt boring.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for your feedback mate. Not many people have driven both the m240i and the M2. I love the M2. Tomorrow im test drive a flat 6 Porsche Cayman GTS with a manual box so i'll give my feedback on that. I'm expecting the BMW M2 to be better in the sense it is better at handing real roads, where the Cayman will be even more configured for track use

  • @samsara3694
    @samsara3694 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's not that the price of the m240i has been reduced by 20% - this level of discount has been available on the mlites since they came out, so the available discount wouldn't explain the increased wait for the m240i. The discount means a real world difference of 15K between the m240i and M2 for similarly optioned cars (as the M2 is discounted).

    thank's for the fid Jay given me something to think about don't know if I can afford that but maybe leasing it but time will tell keep the vid's coming mate one last question on the golf R how do you find the 4 wheel drive with it not working as well as it should

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My pleasure mate. I'm not sure I get your question, what do you mean?

    • @truckerphil316
      @truckerphil316 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been told that the four wheel drive does not work aswell as it should think you may of said it in your vid but with out going back through the vid's not sure just wondering in everyday use if it is noticeable.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I think you mean 4motion? 4motion which the golf r has is not 4wheel drive, it is all wheel drive (AWD). The difference meaning that 4wheel drive power is always sent to all 4 wheels usually 40/60. The 4motion is 100/0 (front wheel drive) then becomes upto 40/60 where the cars grip management system determines how much power should be sent to the rear in case of front wheel spin. That is probably where I said 4wheel drive is better at launching than awd because I was saying if you look at Nissan r35 launch all four wheels always spin where as a golf r launch the front wheels spin a little bit before the rear wheels kick in

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could be wrong though as evidently the golf r still has very impress 0 to 60 sprint times so maybe 4wd is only better in situations such as rallying

      @jaykay7932  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      Compared to my golf r (which has not got dynamic suspension) it is a firmer ride. You’ll feel a difference for sure because it’s a rear wheel drive car which is a lot harder to control than our cars. It sounds great too thanks to it’s 6cylinders

  • @9-and-3
    @9-and-3 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    how would you rate the ride quality on bad roads compared to the R? how does the straight line performance feels from the golf? asking all these because I was on the edge of putting a deposit for a golf and then I got a really nice discount and stretched my budget to a my dream car since I was a little kid, an M car.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I say here mate, you'd be quite happy driving the m2 as a daily. It copes with real roads well. I'd only buy the m2 if it were going to be a proper weekend car though as the m2 just seems more special where the golf r is more a daly driver. I've still only done 2900 miles in my r so I'd have been better off with the m2 or something more hardcore like a lotus. Golf r is brilliant though. Have you test driven it??

    • @9-and-3
      @9-and-3 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      unfortunately I live in the wrong side of the world to get to test drive such cars (south eastern Europe - Romania). that's why, stupid or smart, I turn my questions towards lucky guys like you that offer a honest opinion. I test drove the focus RS and I found it too harsh in sport. on bumpy roads I was like a ping pong ball in the cabin. do you find on a scale from golf r (comfy) to focus r (hard) the m2 closer to the VW or to the Ford? and on the way it goes...golf r is mostly considered faster then the looks and the specs so is the m2 worth of 40% more from how fast does it goes? sorry about the silly questions but I don't find every day someone that owns one car and test drove the other plus others. I agree that the m2 feels more special, is an M car and as I previously stated for me personally is "the dream". on the other hand I'm old enough not to fully go with my heard and try to make the right decision

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that is interesting that you found the Focus RS to be too firm a ride. I found the ride to be acceptable for everyday roads in my test dfrive of that car but found the seats too firm. Although in sport mode for that car you are stiffening the dampers by 40% i believe so it will feel very firm in that setting. Regarding where the M2 suspension set up sits, i'd say it's leaning toward the firmer side but because the seats are so comfy i didnt find that to be a problem.
      On paper the Golf R is clearly the best choice car where a DSG can do 0 to 62mph in 4.8 (4.6 in mk7.5) seconds, has 4wheel drive and looks good too. But the M2 requires more skill to drive (rear wheel drive), sounds amazing (6 cylinder engine) and is better looking than the Golf R.
      My only complaint with the Golf R (especially after driving cars like BMW M2 and the Porsche GTS) is the sound of the engine and exhaust. The M2 and Porsche sound like proper sports cars where as the Golf R sounds like a sporty hatch back which means less exciting. I guess its down to how much you can afford and what you really want from a car. Yes the BMW M2 is a lot more than the Golf R, but it is a lot less than a porsche Cayman GTS and in my opinion, the GTS isn't that much better than an M2.
      My advice to you is go by what you can easily afford. Dont stretch you budget as you never know what is going to happen

  • @amitpatel3055
    @amitpatel3055 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So what about the option of having to chose between an M2 and a Golf R. I've had a 1M and have driven the M2 last year. For me the M2 didn't have the same magic as the 1M and those who have driven the 1M may or may not agree. I'm debating whether to get a Golf R or wait for a new M2 (possibly DCT).
    You said the power delivery between the M2 and Golf R was near enough similar? Is that really the case with the M2 having two extra cylinders or does it feel the Golf just has to be pushed harder?

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw a 1M on the way to work this morning. White with black alloys. I definitely prefer the look of the M2 to that car.
      Yeah they felt the same to me. There is a difference of 80lb/ft of torques and 0 to 62 time difference of 0.3 seconds (manual M2 v DSG) so its not noticeable. What is noticeable is the fact more skill is required to get the power to tarmac. This plus the sound of the 6 cylinders would make me choose the M2 over a Golf R. This is what i meant by being more of a drivers car. Also the M2 certainly feels bigger than the golf R where the R feels nimble. The only reason youd buy the m2 over the R is the noise and tail happy nature plus far better looks IMO

    • @amitpatel3055
      @amitpatel3055 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couldn't agree more with regards to looks. Golf is very understated but then thats VW for you... I did find the M2 steering far lighter then the 1M and you need to be on your toes at all times with the 1M - in comparison the M2 is very relaxed and felt a much easier drive. I think i'd need to drive the DCT as the power just feels more aggressive then what i found with the manual. Manual needed to be pushed hard to real feel the pace. My 1M was pushing 420hp after map so the M2 obviously didn't feel as quick. Interesting comment regarding power delivery though. Never expected the Golf to be on Par. An "R" test drive may have to be in order.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it will be interesting to get your feedback with your opinion on the R. I'd say that after driving the 1m or m2 you'd find the golf r a bit duller. It's a funny world we live in where cars can be so great but for different reasons lol. I wrote a review on my blog too. Take a look and see what you think jaykaycars.com/motoring/reviews/bmw-m2-uk-review.cfm

    • @amitpatel3055
      @amitpatel3055 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great Read mate - all ready seen it. I think for me personally the R is just a bit more practical and easier to live with everyday. Can't knock the M car for sheer fun factor. Its hard to beat. The M2 demo i drove had the M-performance exhaust. No power gains but sheer joy to listen too! Its leaps and bounds ahead of the M3/M4 in the noise dept.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate. Out of curiosity how come you arent sticking with your 1m? Or is that becoming a garage queen?
      Yeah thats the thing, you'll get slightly less fun with a Golf R but more practicality. The Golf R is probably the perfect all rounder. It's our hunger for more power which is the problem lol. If i were you id test drive the new RS3 as well, so that way you only lose 1 cylinder. Then see how that stacks up against the facelift R. Im assuming the 7.5 R is now available for test drive??

    Nice review m8 yes ive drove the m2/m3/m4 and other models.The m2 is a much better car than the 240 i could daily drive an m2 no problems at all,the steering and the suspension setup is alot better.The M2 gets front and rear subframes from the M4 the m2 and feels more responsive than the 240.Out of them all i prefer the m3 than other models in the range even though ive not driven a new m5.I prefer the m3 as a daily out of the m2 and m4

      I've driven the M3, M4 and M2. Money was not an object. I bought the M2. Although the M3 and M4 have very impressive engines and extra power, they simply are not as balanced at the limit. They get nervous and squirrely, and feel too big to me, If you were a fan of the E36/E46, then the M2 is the closest in feel to both of them (although power delivery is different, especially to the e46). The current M3 is really nothing like those cars. The sense of size, combined with nervousness at the limit, is unmistakable. The M2 is the best M car I have driven, and I was absolutely devoted to my previous Dinan e36 M3. I am going to put a Stage 4 Dinan kit on my M2 here in 10 days or so, and we'll see whether I will reach nirvana. But I'm pretty close as it is.

  • @sparkford04
    @sparkford04 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So Jay,
    Projecting ahead as you are with your next car purchase in say 18 months /2 year, will this be better that say a Golf R 400 MK8 POTENTIALLY in 2018 /2019
    Does it fully justify £10 k plus , over the soon to be R mk7.5 306 bhp with may be a Oettinger tune stage 1 or 2. with a Milltek exhaust or indeed boosting your current car to stage 1 at 360bhp with better handling than the M2.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends entirely on what you want from a car. My next 'toy' car will definitely need a bigger engine because all my life I've had fast 4cylinder hot hatches so for me about a about growing up a bit maybe? Not sure I can't explain it but as you heard the sound of this car I absolutely love it plus he tail wagging rwd. Plus in 18minth I reckon these will be a bargain on the used car scene! I could be wrong of course but I believe loads are on order

      Thanks for the links. I knew the Porsche would be quickest and the BMW slowest. Remember though it's not just about speed, it's about how much fun you had getting to the finish line. I'd expect the fun factor would be Porsche, BMW then Audi TT RS. I wish the Porsche was 6cylinders though.

      You can test drive a 981 flats six, they are still 2016 demo very low mileage in your Notting dealer centre.

      Maybe because there is a facelift around the corner and dealers wanted to sell old model ASAP. That mean delaers should be able to give good discounts.

      Yes that's right. Vw, Audi, BMW and Porsche all have facelifts. I'm not sure about Ford though.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ive spoke to loads of people who either like it or tolerate it. I prefer it to the natural sounding golf r engine. Too quiet

      After 25k miles with flaps open and res delete mine sounds miles better than with the soundaktor on. Don't know why they were trying to impersonate a V8. Agree it could sound better from the factory though.

    Why would you say an M2 isn't a good daily driver?

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t remember saying that. You could use it as a daily drivers car. Not sure the back seats would suit your friends if you have tall friends though

  • @TomMichellAppDev

    I test drove Golf R, M2, M240i, Focus RS and RS3. I went for the M240i as the best allrounder when I wanted a sporty rwd car I could daily. Also I actually found the new B58 in the M240i much better than the N55 thats in the M2. newer engine with more torque and better power delivery. Nice video would be good to also see your review of the M240i

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hanks for the comment mate. Hopefully il be able to do the m240i! Il keep on eye on my local dealers site and when they get some approved used ones in il take a drive in it

    • @carl9184
      @carl9184 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your right about the B58 engine. I have put 14K on my 240i in last 10 months. It's a car for all occasions 👍...Don't get me wrong I would love a M2 but I rack up alot of miles

    So just now I scanned the WWW.BMW.CO.UK website for BMW approved used / demo /pre-reg cars available for sale.
    Answer right now there are 33 Nationally. Lowest price £43 k Max £57k. many currently with under 1000 miles shown on the advert. Not sure if cars are immediately available or release under BMW rules (VW normally 3 months)
    So why wait a 12 months plus just 'cause it smells new and to your absolute specific spec??

    Please don't call the two fourty eye a two four oh - you're upsetting us die hard bmw enthusiasts!!
    I genuinely thought this would make you want to replace the R instantly, maybe it's more of a fad car maybe? Unloveable?

      lol actually it annoys me when I call it the 2 4 o as well 😂 Tbh if I were not so greedy where money was concerned I'd buy this car in a heart beat. I drove home wishing I was in the m2 lol. It's definitely a golf r upgrade though but as I say il have to drive the porsches next

    M2 facelift on its way after only one year, more power possibly to give greater performance gap with M240i.
    So current model will be cheaper still in you time frame Jay.

    The interior in BMW'S hasn't changed in years!! The Golf R is best all rounder for the price no doubt about it!!

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      absolutely agree with you, but the M2 is flipping great fun and so far it will be my replacement after my R. Not for two more years at least though.

    • @robbieshaft
      @robbieshaft 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean Walsh I disagree about the interior comment. I think the interior in the new 2 is very nice and certainly not outdated ( i know you didn't use that word)

    • @carl9184
      @carl9184 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dont be to sure about that ..There are some M2 bargains out there with low mileage because of M2 competition around the corner.

  • @celestialbeing290

    M140i over a golf R any day , golf are boring and common. M2 if you plan to change golf R

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yet the golf R got better reviews than the M140i from all motoring press. Just saying... and replacing would be a choice of a cayman GT4 or a Golf R 400. Id say M2 competition but we all know they'll be bringing out the range topping m2 next year no doubt keeping inline with the brand
