    While many of your points are reasonable, I literally couldn't care how people think I bought my car. I wouldn't put that as a reasonable reason to go Golf R over S3... also in terms of performance, my friend has a Golf R, I have an S3. We ran them over the quarter mile side by side. He ran a 13.0 and I ran a 12.9. So in our case the S3 was faster in a straight line.. all be it not by very much. I have driven the S3 and Golf R both extensively - I will hand it to the Golf R as having better steering dynamics and I prefer the dynamic suspension in the Golf over the S3.. so as a drivers car, the Golf R is better. The S3 has a better interior, better sound system (B&O) and is definitely finished better inside... dont believe me? Next time youre out at your car, carefully feel the material on the inside of the drivers door and then look at the inside trim of either of the rear doors. The rear door cards are a hard scratchy plastic in the Golf.. this theme is throughout the whole car.. sit in the Golf, reach around to a plastic you cant see, like the steering column for example and you will note they are hard scratchy plastics - these are not found in the S3... when sitting in the Golf, look between the rubbers on the door.. you can see the colour of the car from the inside in the Golf R... in the S3 you cant.. I'm not saying the S3 is a better choice than the Golf R when you consider money... but although they are incredibly similar cars, there is extra attention to detail in the S3 that you dont get in the the Golf R... the only question is if the extra luxury of the S3 is worth the premium.. to me it was but I understand other people who dont care for the better interior.

    Golf r is inconspicuous all right... but once you pass hordes of boring cars it surely isn't. People want to know how a 18k golf could possibly pass them. I just say it's just a golf and don't rightly know.

    Picking my 2017 mk 7 up tomorrow. Couldn't pay the extra for the 7.5 just for a few more bhp and digital dash to be honest. The golf r is definitely the best value for money and in my opinion the best all round considering I am in my 30's and can't be seen in a focus rs or type r without looking like a tit lol (this is my daughters account). Your videos have helped me loads mate, thank you.

    Your whip and finance/mortgage rant made me chuckle Jay :-D
    Priced up the S3 to the same level as My R, leather heated, sat nav, acc and DSG. It was £4500 more! Same engine but different badge! There aren't many people out there that can afford to pay cash for a car so finance is a way of life for many and they certainly shouldn't be mocked for it.

      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol I hate that term and the finance jibe! The people that say it and who use that jibe probably stack shelves at Morrisons anyway 😂😂. Yeah the s3 is a sizeable amount more! No way could anyone justify that price difference!

      @@jaykay7932 personally I think the quality of the S3 including Nappa leather and the exclusivity do warrant a premium it's just the way of life.
      Btw the R isn't as quick as an RS3 on track maybe the S3 but not the Rs3.

    In our days there are that many good finance deals with hardly any interest so it makes sense to get one on finance. Myself I have never bought one on finance but would in the future. When my dad bought his Civic Si Honda were offering as low as 3% Apr on a used car but decided to pay cash instead.
    I have had audi's in the past and present now but probably move on due to so many awful audi drivers out there and plus too many on the road. When I sold My Celica gt4 needed a car ASAP and only found the Audi A4 quattro in price range plus 4wd. I am a huge fan of the Golf r as had the Gti's in the past. You can pick a low mileage golf r now for around £26k but a used rs3 still looking at £38k depending on spec.

    On the subject of car finance - the majority of cars under say 8 years old are financed. Most people can't afford a new car in cash - also in a lot of ways it makes sense as it is easier to get your money back should something go wrong. Even if a car is on finance - it's still a decent reflection of how much you can afford each month to spend on a car should cars be your thing. In my opinion I have nothing against a nice car on finance. Doesn't make your a dick - you're still paying for and being able to a afford a nice car. People who think you're an ass hole for having a nice car on finance are generally...... JEALOUS

The performance will amaze you.

    When I tell people I have a golf, they think its crap. But if I say I have an A45 they instantly think money. People are too focused on the badge these days and it's quite sad.
    And I laugh at people who put others down by saying its financed and you can't really afford it. Well, they can't even afford the finance let alone cash :D
    Whether its leased or financed, you still have to pay the monthly payments to keep it. I used to believe cash was ALWAYS better but it can be beneficial either way to be honest.

    Never a truer word spoken jay! for me the S3 was really posh an I enjoyed it but when I sat down and realised how much of the demo was "optional extras" compared to the R with everything you could ever want and more on there as standard there was just no comparison, £31k and I'm done an dusted, spoilt rotten in fact haha, an we know the R is savage! The s3 just didn't flow on the B roads the same as the R an the R sounds so much better

      Petrol Head - Maybe they made it standard after launch. I'm looking at used ones and there are R's without Nav being sold by VW dealers. Maybe the last owner took the SD car but with an S3 they always have Nav and heated leather seats..

    People will aways judge no matter what you drive, where you live or what you do for a living. When you get a bit older/wiser, you realise you dont give a fook and do what suits you regardless. High performance cars are for driving enthusiasts, they are expensive to buy and run. But before the greens get their way, one more sunday blat down 'that' road.😉

    You have a good vw dealer. I test drive a golf r and must have been allowed 10 minutes in the car. The sales assistant insisted she drive it out of forecourt then she drove to a quiet Lane where I was allowed to drive it back to the showroom but it was great fun. Still not sure though over golf r or the s3 .

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same with Honda. She wouldn't let me drive the car hard! Find another retailer mate and drive it properly. You can't experience the R just pootling back to a dealership, you have to drive it hard on twisty B roads to understand what they car truely is. According to the media, that's where the r also beats the s3.

    • @aquanick2001

      My VW dealer was sound.........she said I don’t have a route planned, you live in the area so drive it wherever and however you like....
      In fact part way through she said and I quote "just putting it out their that I’m not a police officer and you are allowed to test the car properly”
      I translated this into my own language and all I heard was “You’re driving like Miss Daisy, give it some welly mate”
      Then the fun began 😂

    Hi Jay i test drove the S3 (3 hours) and the M135i (3 hours) then the golf R about 2 hours, no brainer for me, the S3 was very nice inside but woolly steering and did not handle a patch on the golf also the pedal lag was worst than the golf (since fitted pedal box on my Golf R) the BMW was horrid inside but i liked the engine and gearbox ,brakes and handling not a patch on the Golf plus no 4 wheel drive.

      Hi mate. So in your opinion the golf r felt more performance based than the s3? I get the impression the s3 is a calmer car where what you see is what you get, where as the R is a genuine jackal and Hyde car

    Good vid, I agree, the golf r is for the drive and the driver not to show off to everyone else, I love mine and I don't feel to be shouting about it I can just slip by in traffic. It's also good when you do get a bellend in a BMW or Audi doing just what you said and you leave them for dust probably with a surprised expression on their face 😏

      I love it personally. I recently had a sprint on snake pass with a friend and thought I'd try the sports auto mode and it worked really well. Where I would have dropped down a gear when entering a corner hard the box did it perfectly while maintaining the revs in the correct range for a fast exit of the corner. Dsg is awesome. I think the problem with the manual is that the clutch wears out quickly

    The Audi S3 used to be the same price as the Golf R before the facelift last year. I'd say the Golf R is the best value for money but I'd say the Seat Leon cupra is close if you don't mind that it's FWD. Daily driver wise, I'd say the Audi S3 Saloon is best for families and looks the best too. The Audi S3 and RS3 also have a lot better residual value when selling because of how many Golf R's were leased. If you check autotrader, you'll find loads of 2014 basic spec Golf R's for £18-19k, which is similar price to Golf GTI's. 2014 Audi S3's are all over £21k. RS3's are £38k at least, so you could have got one, drove it a year and lost hardly any value.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just looked at used Audi rs3's and it's hard to know just how much they have depreciated by because they are so differently specced. In my experience, all cars depreciate worse in the first 3 years. Year 1 being the worst. When I looked at a used golf r (64 plate) vs a used s3 (64 plate) the other day there was £4K difference for the same spec. This R had leather seats too. That was just one like for like I found straight away. So in the example both cars depreciated the same. All i know is, I've lost a lot of money on my R 😂😂 but don't really care as my isa interest covers it

    • @Harpreet06
      @Harpreet06 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I can't find any basic spec RS3's but I do think they depreciate less. Just look at the old RS3, the cheapest RS3 is £21k and that's a 61 plate with 80k miles (Not counting Cat D cars). I do think the value will go down soon though with the new RS3 Saloon and Sportback coming this year with 400BHP.
      You're right about a used Golf R vs a used Audi S3 of the same spec. Both cars had different base specs so its hard to find them with the same but with both at base spec, they weren't far off each other in terms of RRP. I'm looking for a used Golf R or Audi S3 and there's a ton of red or white base spec Golf R's for under £20k, doesn't make sense to go for a Golf GTI or Audi S3. I can get a 16 plate Golf R for under £25k, 16 plate Audi S3's are £28k at least and 16 plate Golf GTI's are £21-22k.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah used golf R's are a bargain! The only worry is if they have been remapped then launched a lot - that would mean expensive components would need replacing. That's the risk of buying used I guess! But I'm tempted to cash my r in and reinvest in a 14reg dsg

    • @Harpreet06
      @Harpreet06 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm hoping getting a used one with fairly low mileage (under 10k miles) will work out well. I think the 2014 version had the old infotainment system and less tech included but you would make some money doing so and the driving must be the same.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah that would be my worry, what would the older infotainment system be like? As i do enjoy CarPlay and App Connect! But the performance from the car will make you forget about that id say.

      Basically yes couldn't do enough for you. It was complicated though it was through a mate of mine who works in a big multi franchise car dealers second hand (prestige) end who contacted two of their VW dealerships nowhere near me to source me a new vehicle

    No chance of getting a new loaded rs3 for £40k. Closer to £50k.

      I never said that. From what I remember - at the time I was looking to buy a big standard rs3 was 44k which came with nothing... also note prices have gone up with the face life which now runs at 400bhp

      Jay Kay they are nice but pricey. I’m considering stretching myself for a prefacelift, but I’ll probably get a golf r. It’s not going to be my daily so I don’t want too spend too much.

      Yeah for me personally performance is more important than image. If you did buy an rs3 and pulled up outside a club in it on a Saturday night you’d probably get a lot of female attention where as in the r you’d get less. I can’t confirm this as I’ve yet to drive my r outside a club! I did go out last sat night and parked it in a car park and it gained no attention so it depends what you want really

    I found the seats in the S3 to be for better. The bolsters by your ass is uncomfortable. I found the interior to be rather bland and you can't get magnetic ride on the Golf R, which is a very nice feature in the S3. Audi virtual cockpit, other steering features, and I think the S3 looks a lot more upscale. Golf R is a great car for the money, but I think the S3 is the clear choice if you don't mind paying for it

      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i can't speak for the S3 but i didn't find the seats in the RS3 to be any better than the Golf R. I can't imagine the S3 having better seats than the RS3 as the RS3 out ranks the S3 which was kinda my point in this video - that i chose an R over a car which out ranks it and the S3.

      This is where opinions differ lol you think it looks bland and others think the s3 is just a posh bland car. Still... it keeps life from being boring 😊

      The new 2017 refresh is stunning. There is a reason why car manufactures are copying Audi. I don't see anyone copying the design of the Golf:) The S3 is stunning. I have an S4 and I love the look of the S3. Drove one recently and thought it was amazing.

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      See I don't honk the refresh is stunning and neither do a lot of people. It's subjective to each individual 😊 But the fact is the R out performs the S3 (as said by the media innreviews) hence why people would rather buy the R. I'm not sure how you drive your s3 but I certainly enjoy sprinting in my R. If the golf R didn't exist I'd go for the RS3 because to me, Audi + performance can only equal RS. Otherwise I'd imagine people saying things like 'he bought the s3 as he can't afford the RS3'. And I have heard that comment with Porsche and buying a Cayman instead of an911

      Ive not pulled into the middle of town and showed off my Golf R yet because whenever i take her out its on B roads lol. I think you asked me a question about what mileage do i get from £10 of fuel? I recently drove 100 miles from Yorkshire back to Notts and achieved 38.2 MPG. That was with varying cruising speeds, getting lost a bit and part way through the journey switching off the A/C. Typically for me £65 gets me about 310 miles though. My computer says that in the 3000 miles I've driven, the car has average 27MPG

    The Golf R handles better than the Audi S3 :) The Golf R is in fact faster than an A45 Merc :D

    Ford sync 3 so much better then the vw system

    • @jaykay7932
      @jaykay7932  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I played with Sync 3 in the Mk3 Focus RS and wasn't struck by it. The only thing it offered over my R infotainment was voice activated sat nav where i can ask it to take me to the nearest mcdonald's. But as i showed in my last video, App connect lets me do that anyway. So sync 3 isnt better in my limited experience. VW interior pisses on Fords either way
