I have LPR. Took PPIs off and on for several years. Didn't help long term. Symptoms started getting pretty bad, so I did a lot of research on LPR and started incorporating some of the remedies to see if anything would help. Avoided offending foods (those associated with GERD - acidic foods, coffee, alcohol, chocolate etc.) Slept with head elevated and didn't eat 3 to 4 hours before bedtime. Also have hiatal hernia and I stared doing exercises to help move the sliding hernia back down into the stomach. Those things seemed to help, but was still having issues. Started the Acid Watchers Diet and only ate approved alkaline foods for 2 weeks. Pretty restrictive diet, but my symptoms improved. Gradually moved on to the maintenance phase of the diet and then slowing started adding foods back into my diet that I had stopped eating. I gargle with alkaline water mixed with a little baking soda twice a day. Still do my hernia exercises daily and sleep with my head elevated. I have been drinking coffee every day for about a month now ( only about 5 oz mixed with 5-7 oz oat milk) and occasionally have a mini cocktail (only vodka based - with potato or corn vodka). Mostly eat whole foods. Don't eat much processed food. No dairy except yogurt and cottage cheese. No flour. Mostly whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, chicken and fish. No citrus. No spicy food. No fried fatty food. No chocolate. No desserts (except for small ginger cookies). No raw onions or garlic. No tomato based food. Have a cup of chamomile tea every night about 1 hour before bed mixed with a small amount of raw honey. My symptoms are not completely gone, but they are greatly improved. I work out regularly. Do yoga and engage in breathing exercises like Georgia mentioned. I believe the things I am doing have made such a difference in my overall well-being. I feel optimistic now that I will be able to manage my LPR moving forward. I don't plan on ever going back on PPIs. I may have to have surgery one day, but perhaps not. Who knows. Hope this info helps.

You sound exactly like me. I'm still doing the acid watcher diet over 2 years later, I haven't even moved to maintenance foods and still having trouble big time. No refined sugar in 2 years, no red meats, no flour, no dairy, no carbonated beverages, no tomatoes,no onions, no chocolate, no coffee, I make my own almond milk, my own oat milk, absolutely nothing acidic, I eat bland bland bland mainly fruits (non acidic), vegetables, brown rice, quinoa, kale, oats, sweet potatoes. When I cook I use rosemary, parsley, basil, thyme and Celtic salt. The only oils I use are olive and avocado oil, which IF I do is about a half a teaspoon on top of my potato to cook. When I make soup with lentils, carrots, potatoes, veggies I use water for broth. Or butchers bone broth and the ingredients are Filtered Water, Organic Chicken, and Organic Carrots, that's it. I take probiotics, digestive enzymes etc etc. I'm sure I'm doing more harm by limiting myself for over 2 years of all these foods, depleting myself from vitamins and nutrients. I take vitamins but it's not the same as foods. I did anything for relief.
At first mastic gum helped, then recently I stopped it in a month later my symptoms came back full force I couldn't even sleep for days even my watch told me I wasn't sleeping anyways took slippery elm and it helped me sleep. I won't date touch anything acidic. One time a year ago I had a quarter of a cherry tomato and was reflexing again for 3 days straight so I don't cheat. I accidentally swallowed food in Vegas that had a marinade on it it must have been mixed in with my bland food and I almost threw up 10 minutes later. Taken all the test besides the esophageal mamometry which is the next and last test. Bravo came out severe reflux, barium swallow test large amount of reflex and small hiatal hernia. Will be seeing a surgeon July 3rd super nervous, but something has to be done I do everything right, I am not overweight I work out every single day 5 miles a day, I lift weights. I do a lot of breathing exercises I follow some great people on TH-cam and Instagram.
I could go on and on. How are you doing now?

@@ItalianaBella333 Much better! Thanks for asking! My diet is still pretty bland and I eat the same things most days, but I have been able to cheat now and then without bad side effects (for the most part!) If my symptoms come back, I will go back to the restrictive healing phase of the Acid Watchers diet for a few weeks to help get me back on track. I feel confident of my ability to manage my LPR at this point, but who knows? I have not ruled out surgery, but at this point don't think it will be necessary. Hang in there. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Take care.

It's incredible how many people suffer from some form of acid reflux. I'm one of them, of course. Here's the approach I'm currently taking, and it's working really well. First, ensure you have good motility; improper digestion (including constipation) can cause many issues, including affecting your esophagus. So, what I did first was address my constipation. There are many resources available, but generally, taking magnesium citrate at night helps. If you're severely constipated and nothing else works, consider a suppository. Yes, it's not ideal, but sometimes necessary. Continue taking magnesium and gradually increase your fiber intake.
Next, focus on motility. What worked for me is artichoke and ginger root extract, taken 10 minutes before breakfast and dinner. There's ample research in this area, so do look into it.
Another important aspect often overlooked is the risk of nutrient and vitamin deficiencies, especially if you're avoiding many foods. This can worsen your digestion and overall health, so finding a good supplement is key.
Drinking enough water is essential, but there's no need to overdo it; six glasses a day work for me. And it might seem obvious, but a bit of exercise each week is beneficial too. You use your body every day, so it's only fair to take care of it in return.
    I hope this helps.

I just came across your video and can relate to it…
I suffered exact symptoms as yours for years and years…here’s what I did..
Stopped all cakes biscuits and any processed foods.
    Used natural foods only
    Moved over to mainly a carnivore/keto diet…
Breakfast always eggs and butter only nothing else..honey is a life saver
If I get any symptoms in my throat I had lots of success from bee propilis throat spray
Hope this helps anyone and I pray you get and keep well..Ameen

You are very correct about the lack of stomach acid, & also that taking a daily dose of ACV in water helps to improve the acid in the stomach. PPI’s reduce stomach acid & then this is the beginning of another problem. I have been in this merry go round for 14 years & just came out of hospital today after having my hiatus hernia repair & a 270 Fundoplication. Need 2 weeks of liquids, broths etc including protein powders, then 2 weeks of puréed food. Then all being well, start back on normal diet. I am hoping that I will be off the PPI’s in one month, & will take ACV then.

I suffer from the same thing sadly for 3 months now. Chronic pharyngitis-laryngitis, occasional choking feeling, which were so severe I've been to E&A 4 times so far (it's strange I never had cough or heartburn). I've got almost the same medication, but I don't think they improved anything btw. First time they also tried to tell me it's stress, but I have never been a stressy, anxious person, even not now despite my career and holiday plans are in the rubbish bin, so I also don't think it's neurologic.

Sister, try to improve digestion: so food leaves stomach early. Notice: one of the most common causes of indigestion and subsequent silent reflux is H pylori. I will consider a test for H pylori if you are especially eating from restaurants a lot. Another thing, hiatal hernias are very common and I doubt their relation to silent reflux.
Finally, always take the means to cure and remember that:
" Never a believer is stricken with a discomfort, an illness, an anxiety, a grief or mental worry or even the pricking of a thorn but Allah will expiate his/her sins on account of his/her patience". Albukhari and Muslim.

Hi, my doctor prescribed me some Albuterol and that it really helps when I get those breathing troubles. It just opens up my lungs. It feels like my throat is closed, but he said he thinks its the lungs... the stomach acid is irritating my bronchial tubes and makes them close. So the Albuterol opens them right up. Hope this helps.

The pain in your chest & shortness 9f breath can be caused by gas.
I have had this surgery, & this happened to me. I now take a quality pro-biotic which includes a pre-biotic once per day. Plus 125 mg Simethicone. I take one about 20 minutes before I eat and another after I eat. It has helped tremendously.
I also do deep breathing exercises, which help.

Acidic foods are not increasing stomach acid. Acidic foods act alkalyne in the stomach(citrus fruits etc). To increase acid one would have to eat proteins and fats or sugar. Coffee is not an acidic food per se(i mean could be considered because it has a ph of 5) but it acts acidic by increasing the production of gastrin.

    Hey
You exactly described how I suffer right now. I did an endoscopy and my esophagus was having mild inflammation. Before I had my endoscopy I took omeprazole, pantoprazole and also tum to help my acid reflux. I went to lung doctor, heart doctor, and GI and they said everything is fine and told me not to worry too much. Anyway after I had my endoscopy I was prescribed pantoprazole and famotidine. I was on those medication for a months and I feel like my symptoms is improving but at the same time I don’t really feel like I’m feeling well. After I stopped taking medicine my symptoms are coming back and I don’t really know if it’s gerd or lpr. I went to ENT and the doctor prescribed me pantoprazole again and I’m really sick of this medication. I’ve been very careful on my diet and I cut out all the acidic foods. Which my symptoms doesn’t seem to be very helpful. I’m coming back to my GI this week and I’m gonna see how he is going to handle me. I’m really sorry for you because I can feel very relatable.

I am so sorry you are going through the same mess I have had for years.
Almost the same story as yours.
I have a paraesopageal hiatal hernia that is large and holds the valve that keeps the acid in the stomach.
Causing constant reflux. I take 40 mg of PPI Omeprazole every day. And they can't operate on it too dangerous. The worst is when you have micro-aspirations and it goes down your airway and makes it very hard to breathe. I haven't worked for ten years. And have asthma and COPD and never Ever smoked anything.
It has gotten a little better. If you get the right doctor, always go to a specialist.
Keep a positive attitude and may God bless you and keep you safe.

If i drank o.j. ate fried food, Ate OATMEAL @ night;one of my favorite treats;especially when its cold out, drank lemonade after 2 coffees, had exams, too much stress....acid reflux. Anyway, I've finally found 2 things that work. Besides avoiding the above things; one is drinking juice from half a lemon...alone, no water, it burns going down, but 100%, gets rid of it. The second thing is avoiding all those things that caused it+ drinking APPLE CIDER VINEGAR 2-4 TBSP diluted in a full glass of water before i eat breakfast. I actually miss it, when i forget to take it. It's a weird taste. Some people add lemon+a sweetener too. I used to have it alot, now rarely...but i know exactly what to do. I've tried almonds, apples, milk...nothing else has ever worked for me. I also avoid alcohol, tobacco, n sweets.

Salaam alaikum sister, I have found the following method very effective in dealing with acid reflux so please try this if you can. When the acid reflux is is happening to you you get a large glass of ice cold full fat milk and when I say ice cold I mean just before it is frozen. Take a small sip of this ice cold milk every 30 seconds until the glass is empty and then don't eat or drink anything for a few hours. Please try this and then let me know so what happened and I then might be able to offer some more advice. Don't bother with tablets or pharmacy liquids because they just cover the symptoms and do not offer any long-term solution. Also, you must leave at least 3 hours after eating before you sleep, otherwise nothing will help you.

My symptoms started as erosive oesophagitis, went on ppis and then weaned off, tried prucalopride as they thought I had mild gastroparesis, ended up doing another test and said I didn't have, lost about 7kg
Sliding hiatal hernia 2cm found during endoscopy, my main symptoms now after 5 yrs are, stuffy nose at bed time interrupted sleep, and feeling fatigued and abdominal pain at night, not sure if I should go through with toupet fundolipication at this stage

I think you were on the wrong medication. It’s likely low stomach acid. When the stomach doesn’t make enough acid, it can’t tell the flaps to close. It doesn’t get the message. I have what you have. And I’m going to go the opposite route and try to increase my stomach acid first and see what happens.
Did no doctors ever tell you it’s often low acid production?

I saw you video explaining the symptoms it is what I have gone though , lung scan found nothing, nothing works, attacks are so bad I wake unable to breathe , it's like breathing through a tiny straw, the doctor cannot seem to help, the pain when breathing is in describable there are times I fear if I don't wake up and it blocks my lungs I fear I may pass out or worse, it is draining constant tired and pain , I can't eat anything , I'm going to try different doctor, but thank you for making the video, I have never seen anyone else that has had the experience like me at least I know I'm not crazy
