Hi. I have both acid reflux and IBS. I got diagnosed with IBS in 1988 and then I went to the hospital on January 22nd I thought I was having a heart attack but they said it was Acid reflux. I'm still having it but how do you get rid of it?

Thanks Molly. I have reflux . The past year went worse. Before I ever had reflux/ gerd Id never even taken time to know what it was. I Didn't have to. Now it consumes too much of my time and distraction. And got to be antacids don't really work. I'll sub.

I'm crying right now. This has been so isolating and lonely. I was diagnosed with GERD last year and put on so many different meds. They help but I don't want to take meds forever. The GI doctor says this can never heal but I can reduce symptoms, and I never believed that to be true. I'm glad I came across your video because now I have a glimmer of hope. Thank you for dedicating yourself to this work so that people like me can find hope again and heal.

You will improve and heal slowly with a non inflammatory diet
It good to take medication, but we can’t take medication for ever
      I healed once
Then some recently I was prescribed antibiotics for parainfluenza and got me back to zero
Today I am on my fifth day taking Famotidine, I am supposed to take it for a month, I am back to my non inflammatory diet, try to eat everything natural, can food and highly processed foods will irritate your stomach lining. Do some breathing exercises to strengthen your sphincter muscle

I've been struggling with Acid Reflux for 8 yrs. Taking a PPI forever. Keeping a good diet and exercise and no alcohol, except for a glass of red wine. 2 cups of coffee in the morning. If I miss the PPI just 1 day, my symptoms return. I give up.

My gerd was definitely related to my anxiety. 3 years ago I dedicated my life to the Lord and I cut alcohol, birth control, fast food, etc. I started caring for my spiritual life and that reflected in my outer physical body tremendously. Exercising as well.I started a prayer lifestyle which helped me with my stress and anxiety.

I have been through GERD for over 2 years myself and I also tried many... many... things just like you. Listening to your video is like unpacking all of the key insights learned (in the hard way). I wish i learned from your video 2-3 years ago. Things that eventually work for me is the smaller but constant meals before getting too hungry e.g. ready digestive friendly snacks at home, use licorice root to coat our oesophagus before meals (usually before dinner works best for me), use ginger root to reduce bloat (if the occasional bloat happens), use betaine hydrochlorine digestive enzyme to handle difficult to digest foods (sometimes we have no choice but to eat those foods), daily probiotics to ensure our digestive function is in tip-top condition. Be mindful of the right posture (prevent hunching) plus finding the right sleeping position (i put small thin pillow below my lower back) including simple breathing techniques (deep breath) when Acid reflux flare up to calm our mind. I also learned that adding anti inflammatory foods into our meals such as cabbage, high glutamine red meat like beef prevent the bloat and acid reflux though it might not be possible to plan everyday. I have felt a a lot better now with occasional flare up only most commonly due to work stress/ too tired and aftermath of flu sickness. I guess we cant remove this condition completely as we are bound to change our routines due to work, family and lifestyle commitments but we are more prepared to deal with it when things go bad and rise above it : )

I don’t want to be this way my entire life but it’s been so long, I don’t see an end. I’ve been undereating and have been feeling like I’m very deregulated. I wake up nauseous and go to sleep nauseous and barely sleep as of lately due to it causing me to vomit. It feels so lonely here, I can’t even complain bc no one understands so it’s not worth saying anything anymore. I was diagnosed with IBS in 2019 but as of now 2024 I have GERD as well. Same here. Got serious reflux issue 6 years ago and endoscopy found nothing but excessive acid. Was out on PPI for 6 years and got IBS and lost tons of weight. Finally, I regulated my stress, found a really accupuncture doctor, and ready to heal. Now I am struggling with quitting the pills. Trying to search for all kinds of advices. I guess everyone is different. DGL and enzymes helps, but apple cider vinegar makes it worse. No eating 3 hours before bed helps, change to decaf helps, and sleep in an elevated position helps. Another thing I found helping is core training and muscle strengthening. Somehow doing core exercises relief the occasional heart burn for me. Now I am only taking 1/4 of the original omeprazole dose, and I will try to cut all soon. My IBS is almost gone already, which confirms that it was actually cause by the PPI. Hope everyone gets well soon!

Wonderful that you have healed your GERD! One thing to explore that led to the cure for my GERD was low stomach acid. The valve at the top of your stomach won't close if acid is too low. It was easy to discover by doing an easy test on an empty stomach: drink 4 oz of water with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. As stomach acid turns the baking soda neutral it produces gas. If you don't burp, you likely have low stomach acid. Low acid can be treated by supplementing during meals with Betaine HCL. Finding the right dose of Betaine HCL (OTC) to take with meals completely relieved my symptoms and is helping to let my body heal and resume adequate acid production. I'm hoping to eventually wean off. Lots of causes of low acid (hypothyroid, vitamin deficient, high stress, etc). Is this something that you explore with patients?

I am 75 years old. I started getting a sore throat and reported that to my nurse practitioner .
She told me to get the common acid blockers over the counter and , of course, I was continuing with Tums . Not very long after that , I became aware that acid reflux , especially in older people , is from LOW stomach acid and not from too much acid, You need adequate levels of stomach acid to keep the esophageal sphincter closed and to adequately digest your food. Acid blockers like PPIs are the enemy and can lead to many other problems with proper digestion .
There are many UTube videos by medical people on this topic . I have been addressing this issue for myself and have found relief by increasing my stomach acid during meals using Betaine HCL and digestive enzymes . The Betaine HCL brings in the HCL (hydrochloride acid) to your stomach during meals and is necessary for protein digestion .
This is something that everyone should be aware of you are having stomach issues . Check it out and best wishes to all !

I have a hiatus hernia for 15 years, on no meds, never a problem; now, pain, gerd, post nasal drip...everything! It's STRESS causing everything! Yes, of course have a good diet but please bear in mind to address the stress in your life.
Not easy, but it has to be done! I try hard to laugh at myself, don't take life too seriously, no one is getting out alive!. Watch comedies, turn off all news, be kind to yourself and others, be around children and pets, turn off all news, oops did I already mention that? VISUALISATION a must!

I have been dealing with this for 5 years, start with an elimination diet of known triggers - diary, caffeine, alcohol, sugar and gluten. Let your digestive system heal for at least a month. If your symptoms improve then bring them back back one at a time for 2 weeks to see if symptoms return, then eliminate the culprit.. I agree stress is a huge component, yoga, walks in nature, cut out toxic people, meditation. The good result is weight loss from all those grain foods (carbs), eating whole foods nothing ultra processed and exercise.

The frequent belching and pain and burning sensation when acid is rising up our throat. We used to avoid certain foods and drinks which could trigger the reflux. We completely got rid of it after someone at the church suggested to us to try eating red apple fruits. We used the red apple delicious and Fuji apples and we were so amazed after a few days eating those fruits acid reflux was gone. Since then we never had acid reflux again regardless of what we eat or drink.

You're basically diluting your stomach's pH, then your stomach has to increase acid production just to catch up. If there's not enough acid or pH is too high this can cause the lower esophageal sphincter to not close properly.... Or so they say, seems to make sense

      @CoryHobbs2178 ปีที่แล้ว

@@facts4147 well you first need to identify why. Do you have simply low acid, or do you have a stomach bacteria causing the low acid? Hard to tell up front.
I'm going through the same thing right now, I can tell you what I'm doing. I refuse to take PPIs, they will never fix the issue and only make it worse.
I changed my diet, I stopped drinking Sprite and I stopped eating so much chocolate.
When my reflux will act up, I will break a Tums into four pieces. Chew up one piece at a time and make it liquid before you swallow it, this will at least provide some relief to your esophagus without diluting the acid in your stomach too much.
I'm going to start a regimen of betaine hydrochloride, That has a little bit of pepsin in it. If you tried this make sure you look up signs and symptoms to be aware of after starting it.
In some cases the betaine hydrochloride will react with the bacteria and cause some bloating and discomfort.
If this is the case then you first need to try a course of d-limonene. This will penetrate the mucus layer enough to get rid of some of the bacteria. The bacteria produce alkaline waste which further reduces the acidity of your stomach. Getting rid of the possible bacteria alone could fix the issue, but if not start a course of betaine hydrochloride to reacidify the stomach.
Betaine hcl must be done very carefully. Before trying that you could start taking a regimen of vitamin c in the form of ascorbic acid, and you also could try a regiment of apple cider vinegar.
The bottom line is if your stomach has low acidity there are only a few causes either bacteria or diet for the most part.
Lowering the pH of your stomach will likely cause your lower esophageal sphincter to close on its own.
But sometimes you cannot lower the acidity of your stomach without changing your diet or if you have a bacterial overgrowth in your stomach. You have to nail down exactly what's causing your issue so that you can properly lower the pH of your stomach.

I went to the GI doctor for months, they said I had GERD and just not to eat these foods, I did this strictly and it still didn’t help, they put me on strong meds which took way my GERD but within a week I started to get painful stabbing symptoms in my liver area, went back to the doctor and they did more tests, my GI doctor said “oh no that wouldn’t be the new meds causing that” then after many tests she said “well I don’t think I can do anything for you sooo”
I stopped using the meds, and boom that pain in my liver area that would cause me to gasp and hunch over, was gone. Then I went and read this book “acid watchers diet” and it helped a lot! Took time and dedication to follow it and stopped eating certain things. My acid reflux is back so I’m trying new things to figure it out, that’s why I am here! Good video for getting in the right mindset and lifestyle tips. In addition, I would say that reflux is caused by poor digestion, causing fermintation of gut bacteria. I.e. food that has been poorly assimilated and is rotting in your gut, creating gas backpressure that forces acid up through the hital sphincter. Look at sibo and its relation to mmc (migrating motor complex). A great solution I've found is to take ginger and artichoke supplements before bedtime and also combine with intermitant fasting. Also, look in Elliot Overton regarding supplementing thiamine b1

I normally don't comment on channels where the creator only acknowledges certain comments or hearts certain comments bc it's such a blatant disregard towards the other commenters who have taken the time to either give the creator nice compliments/ comments or have made a comment that's very helpful to their audience. Imo, acknowledge all of your commenters or none at all and if you're going to answer questions, don't answer some and not all. With that said, your comment touched me so bc you sound hopeless. Please don't feel hopeless. GERD and Acid Reflux can consume and drain our mental head space. Our quality of life truly can begin to deplete, I know the feeling oh so well, believe me. 🥺 I strongly believe that We can overcome this though. I have began to drastically change my diet and eating portions. I'm starting to do better with exercise, I'm not doing it as much as I should but I'm getting better and I will continue to get better at exercising. I'm not overweight but now that I'm much older, my body and a lil common sense is telling me that I *need* to exercise. 🤷 I'm drinking lots and lots and lots of water. It was a MUST that I cut out SUGAR also. I am addicted to it. Seriously, no joke. Also processed food have to go. My stomach was bloated EVERY single day. I was loosing so much weight bc ANYTHING that I ate caused my stomach to feel like there was an inferno inside of it, it felt like I had no lining protecting my stomach. Acid was tearing my stomach up!! 🔥 I was literally afraid to eat. I'm not a pill popper, I've never been. So, I knew I had to do something to get better.....naturally. I cried sometimes bc the daily struggle with GERD is so overwhelming. I used to carry around a bag with me inside of my home😮 bc the acid was so bad, I had to continuously release it into the bag. 🤢 I know... TMI but just want you to know that I truly can relate to how you're feeling but want you to know that you can get better. Please, please focus on and be determined to get better. Continue watching the TH-cam vids. Everything that all say are not going to be helpful to you bc we all have different bodies and what works for someone else might not work for you. Don't give up though, you will recognize what works for your body. Just know that you will get better. Do all that you can to eliminate stress in your life. I believe that conquering AR and GERD is *definitely* a lifestyle change that requires a lot of discipline. You can conquer it. Start some lifestyle changes. Start with changing your eating habits AND liquids also.. the soft drinks and sodas must go, the sugar is not your friend so if you are a junk foodie like I was, it must stop! 😳 Processed foods must go! Get a plan in place to get started!! You'll start to feel better and then you'll start to feel more and more encouraged as you start to feel better!!! Get on your mark and just START! YOU GOT THIS!!!! YOU TOO, StamfordBlue!!!

Omg this is sooo helpful! I only ever experienced heartburn when I was pregnant which was 22 years ago but now it seems to be daily for the last 6months. Definitely have the feeling of something stuck in my throat. The specialist can’t get me in for 2 months! I am already trying some of the things you mentioned and it does help but I need to try more bc it’s pretty constant. I am wondering about apple cider vinegar, tried it in the past and it seemed to help. Also, I do intermittent fasting to try to shed about 15lbs, it hasn’t been super effective for me yet and I definitely don’t want to exacerbate the acid reflux. I was a caregiver for my mom for many years and it was extremely stressful and now I am dealing with grief from her passing, which I think contributes to the stress. I will definitely watch more videos and implement some of your strategies, thank you for this information. ❤

I had quite painful swallowing pain for EVERY swallow, yawn, blow (spitting toothpaste, blowing up balloon) for about 3-4 months, then on/off for about 9 months. Only just getting better with help from PPIs, smaller meals, less meat and more vege, no more coffee, no alcohol, minimal chocolate, minimal tomato or acidic foods, more mindful eating, raised my bed, losing weight and exercising, stength and yoga training. This reflux has made me change my whole life. It's made me look at my health so much more. But i wish I never had it. Still have painful chest pains for days straight. Endoscopy, laryngoscopy, MRI, CT scan, thyroid ultrasound, blood tests, etc - nothing found.

Great video , i had Reflux every night for 2 years in my 60s , could not see a reason for it no different change in my diet , probably least stressful life style of my life at that timr so could not see any reason other than perhaps getting older ? Dont really do doctors. Tried antacids , laying on my left side etc but no use . So i researched it and found that antacids just mask thr problem and did not address the excess acid. Found it was caused by hi- pylori in your gut and then looked to see what destroyed hi- pylori. Well Sulforaphane kills it but where do we get that from. Cruciferous veg has it with broccoli the most however when we cook broccoli it destroys the enzyme Myrosinase that releases it when torn or bitten. It is in effect its own built in pesticide hence farmers dont have to spray the broccoli crop as much. Young broccoli has 100x the amount of mature broccoli. So i first just tried a couple of raw florets of broccoliv with just ac luke warm water rinse and found it helped that night . So looked into growing broccoli sprouts in a jar over just 5 days , plenty of videos out there and bingo no more acid reflux in last 4 years i eat it as a salad ( looks like cress) never ever cook it. Found also that sulforaphane has a incredible effect on our immune system and fights just about any ailment you google including Cancer and the cytokine storm in covid. Amazing stuff. I now make a jar full about every two to 3 weeks sometimes a month just to keep it up . Only had reflux on Christmas night after cheese cake but thats to be expected. Should point out i have bev. so im not realy a normal person as such . Main thing in broccoli sprouting is to remember to keep jar out of direct sunlight as you dont want it warming the jar or you will create conditions for ecoli . But basically a table spoon of seeds soaked over night on day zero Then rinse out through meshed lid in morning of day one and leave lid down to drain in a bowl at an angle rinse again in evening , repeat over next 4 days harvesting on evening of day 5 . Sometimes i have it with tuna in a sandwich . Other people have it as a water based smoothie .

I’m gonna share my experience. My experience is that ozempic 2 mg no matter where I inject myself, upsets my gerd and esophagus really badly.
Also, recently I had a heart attack like three weeks ago and I was not on ozempic as I had taken a break. But my heart attack symptoms had similar symptoms of gerd.
The difference was my left arm pain was fierce. If my left arm had not hurt I wouldn’t have gone to the emergency room. I actually drove myself and I had a feeling they were going to send me home with having gerd.
And my stress was super high too of course. lol.
But I actually had the chest pain that I thought was esophagus acid reflex issues. And even I threw up right after having chest pains.
    So yeah stay safe everyone.
But yeah I’m on a research drug right now that I’m not allowed to take Prilosec which is what helped me in the past. So I’m trying to find ways to help myself better naturally without messing up my research drug testing. The drug is for working with blood thinners to help with coagulation.

I have a hiatal hernia so it makes GERD difficult to “heal”. However I’ve been able to reduce meds (I switched from a PPI (omeprazole) to a H2 blocker (famotidine), which is a little better. I went to low inflammation diet, clean Whole Foods, avoid tomato sauce, onions, peppers, spicy foods, citrus (I can drink lemon water) and eat lots of yogurt. I also take a B vitamin and magnesium supplements since any kind of acid control will prevent your digestive system from properly absorbing nutrients. I have tried many times to wean off all meds but GERD flares up. I have Barrett’s esophagus so the risk of famotidine is worth trying to prevent throat cancer.
