    In this video I address some questions I have received on my previous videos about selling ties. In the comments I have had questions as to whether it is still profitable to sell ties on ebay or if there are too many sellers to enter the marketplace as a new seller. While it is definitely more competitive than when I started originally selling ties on ebay, I find that there is still opportunity to have ties as a part of your reselling model and to make great margins on the right products.
    The most important thing is to find the right brands. I can't say this enough, but you need to make sure you are sourcing ties that people are actually buying and are willing to pay at least $20 for used. If you are looking to sell ties in the sub $10 range then you are going to likely be frustrated by the amount of work for the minimal amount of profit to be made.
    Like you would for any other business, do your research before jumping in. I always like to go on Ebay and search in the sold listings for products that have sold for an amount greater than what my ideal minimum sell price would be. I typically filter so that I only see the sold listings as most of what I sell is not new. I also don't typically care about auction sales, I only want to see what someone went on and found and paid immediately for an item. This seems to give me what I believe is a more accurate look at the going rate for used items. When you have started to identify brands/styles that seem to keep coming up and are getting the sale amount you want in high volume, you know that is a brand worth writing down.
    I have done a lot of this work already and go into detail in my complete guide on how to sell ties so if you want some help go watch that video on my channel.

    I am finding a lot of Brooks Brothers, Robert Talbot and Trump ties in my area thrift stores. Two were new with tags of 45.00. Also, I bought two ties that were pretty generic, because they both still had tie tacks in them. Got home and one was 14k gold, the other was a rare tie tack from pre-NASA days , worth 60.00. So, look for jewelry still attached.

    Awesome video. Thank you. My town doesn't have the best stores for "typical" resale item, but the thrift stores are always flooded with ties. I'm going to try it out. Not much risk involved so why not!

    I've learned quite a bit from your videos and have started scouting the thrift stores I frequent to see what kind of ties are available, quantities, prices, etc. I found the Goodwill's and the 3 stores with the best stock either staple, pin or use fasteners that essentially put a "hole" in the tie.
    I am wondering if you have run into this and what remedies you may suggest. My initial thoughts are, Are the holes that bad if they are at the thin end of the tie? Do I try to talk to the managers at these places to point out the issue? Maybe it's not as big of an issue as I'm making it? I have found so many ties that meet the resell criteria only to see they folded the tie in half and stapled the price tag with 2 staples. Breaks my heart.
    Thanks for the videos!

    Do you/ can you iron or steam ties that are wrinkled?

    • @robertmonroe4944
      @robertmonroe4944  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I will press ties with slight wrinkles in them but make sure that your iron setting is set to silk and that you do quick passes over. Some wrinkling is beyond ironing/steaming and these are often best left on the rack if it is anywhere near the bottom where you could see it when tied and if it is not high end enough for someone to overlook the condition.

    Thanks! What is a good number as far as inventory? 100? 500? Obviously quality is the first concern...

    • @robertmonroe4944
      @robertmonroe4944  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was actually doing some of my best numbers when I was first building from the 100 to 200 listings range. I was very active and finding some great items so my sell through rate actually made it harder to build quickly, which is a great thing! If you are building up inventory while keeping a good sell through rate then getting up to and maintaining 500 listings should be enough to do at least a $1000 per month in sales. That does depend on what you are selling and it could be much higher or lower based on what your average sale price is.

      @@robertmonroe4944 Thanks Robert...at what point do you start putting ties in lots if they don't sell? A year?

    • @robertmonroe4944
      @robertmonroe4944  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FocalPointPhotographyLLC I haven't put any ties in lots yet but I would say it really depends how comfortable you are with them sitting. I have best offer ties that have sold for full price out of nowhere after more than a year of sitting without a single offer so it really depends. I think its worth trying out different strategies to see what works for you and maybe lots will be a successful method of increasing sell through rate for you.

    I actually find plain black ties made of silk sell well. Presumably for funerals. Sounds morbid but people who don’t wear ties sometimes need one for such occasions.
