I just wanted you to know that despite the age of this video it is continuing to help resellers like me! Excellent material! I hope you are still making them.
Thank you....I found 50 ties, in my house n inventory...have never attempted, but am excited to build my items in my store and 10$ sales are good anytime! I think you covered all important aspects of listing....seems easy enough!
Robert, I watched your videos this weekend and wanted to thank you. I've been wanting to start selling ties but really didn't know anything. Today at Goodwill I found an Ike B and a Best of Class. (Both under $2.) I was so excited @ Thank you for your generosity.
Excellent to hear! I was fortunate that I had pretty immediate success with ties and its proven to carry forward as a staple item for me as Ive grown the inventory!
Nice, informative video, Robert. The importance of bread and butter items to get anyone’s store running well is a good point you touched on I think ties are perfect for that as well!
Hi! This is a great video! I have one Italian made silk tie by Principe listed on Ebay right now. I would really like to offer a lot more ties. Are guys getting into ascots these days? I think men look fantastic wearing an ascot for an elegant, yet more relaxed look. Would it be possible to have an updated version of this video for 2022 please? Thanks so much! Lisa
Wow! That was very helpful, thank you very much! I’m new on this reselling game & this video has given me a ton of information to go on. Can’t wait to go out and look for these brands. Thank you again!😃🤗
Hello Robert. Great video. I just commented on another one of your videos concerning ties. I mentioned that I didn't know of the big named ties to look for and bought a lot of mainstream ties. Turns out I was correct that this video had not been released before I made my tie purchases. So I think I will try selling ties again, these brands specifically if I come across them. Cheers my friend.
Thank you for this! Last night I was thrifting and came across a Trump tie for $10.00 and 4 Hermès ties for $25.00 each. I was so tempted to snatch those up but I know if I wait they will eventually become 75% off. I’m on the fence if I should bite the bullet on those... hmmm. Again, thank you for the informative vid.
Alisa, thanks for the comment! Yes, if those are genuine Hermes ties in great condition even at $25.00 you could expect to make some money. But if you can snag them at 75% off you will make great money. Be sure to verify they are genuine because that is a brand knocked off more than some of the lower end ties.
Really appreciate the video. I’ve been specializing in ties for a year or so. Been doing it casually until recently so I found your video while trying to turn this more into a business. I source all my ties for $0.10 at a local thrift shop so the margins are ridiculous. You’re mispronouncing several of the brand names but your sales info was very helpful. I’ve passed up a bunch of Robert Talbot Best in Class and I’m going to give them a shot now. Thanks
AWESOME Robert! As always! I will definitely start paying more attention to the ties! Being in 2021, with the pandemic and people working from home; ties would be the last category of clothing that I would think of... Just saying! Thanks again! Cheers!
I would suggest you send them to me and I'll take them off your hands!! 😜 I think they are still selling well on eBay if you list them with solid photos and make sure to put the word vintage as well as if you know the specific age include that. I have sold a couple hermes ties for good money on eBay but you could also look into a marketplace like poshmark that is more fashion centric.
Nicholas Granados Generally I would expect somewhere between $2-$5 dollars per tie to ship depending on the exact weight and where it is being shipped to. This is using first class shipping which is the least expensive shipping option for ties in my experience.
If you go to ebay sold listings for the item and filter items that are used you will see all the Valentino used ties that have recently sold. It should give you a good idea of what they are selling for and you can price yours similarly to whatever ties seems closest to yours. I always price mine on the higher end of the range to start.
Sorry if I missed it but did you say how you fold the tie before you put it in the mailer? I was curious if you refold it in a certain way or if you leave it rolled. thanks and great videos!!
If you search ebay for bruno marchesi it doesnt appear to have much demand. I only found one that sold recently and it sold for less than $10 so I probably wouldnt pick it up personally.
I never found ties to be a good seller ...they are one size and easy to post but the prices and demand is pretty dire I found plus here in the UK the market is flooded ...I think I have about 40 or 50 silk ties in a box somewhere ..
You aren't wrong, for every great selling tie I have probably 3-4 that have sat for a longer time. Fortunately, they can be acquired very easily and stored easily so I haven't minded holding some for longer as I have continued to hone in better and better on which ties sell faster and for the most money.
I have a huge collection of mens ties from the 1980s, and 1990s vintage and I just need to get rid of them. Most are designer name from Hermes ( I own 130 Hermes) and other designers popular in the 1980s and 90s. I did sell one of the Hermes for $250. I will need to sort them all out and just put them all up for sale. I just loved collecting ties but I must say, 95% of them are new, never worn. I was just afraid I would get a stain on them. There was a guy who would sell used ties on the corner in NYC for $1 each in the 1990s. I would spend my lunch hour buying all the designer names. I was just addicted to the tie buying. Now it is time to say goodbye as I no longer need to horde them and I do have a few people who are eying the top names. If I get the prices I want, no need to put them up on ebay. The rest, I will open a store on ebay and list them. all never worn in mint condition. Now I just have to figure out if my 40 Hugo Boss ties are still desirable, as vintage.
I would say most ties weigh between 3-6 oz once packaged and cost anywhere between $2.50-$5.00 to ship depending on where they ship to. I do charge for shipping myself.
Hey man thank you for the knowledge I bought two ties, Tomy hilfiger and brooks brothers, the brooks brothers was woven and I listed for $14 free shipping and sold over night should I price woven ties higher than that?
Brooks Brothers have pricing all over the place but I would generally say woven will fetch a higher price all other factors considered. I also dont do free shippimg myself. I would say if an item sells that quickly you could probably have fetched a bit more money. Its trial and error top and you have to make some of those decisions off your own business model. Hope that helps
Hey , I found a tie with the Brand name "Mercedes" on it and it has a beautiful image of the White house on it. I have no idea what to list it for because I can't find anything like it. Can you please help?
So I've never heard of that brand either, nor did I find anything in the search results. Is it silk? When I can't find anything on a brand I try to highlight the specific features. Include words like "unique" or "rare". I would also specify the white house pattern on it. List high and see what happens, you can always lower it or take an offer

@@chicopeeparanormal996 Thanks for posting! It looks pretty, I would play up the theme of the tie itself as someone looking for the White House specifically is your most likely buyer! Brioni ties. What does dis. Followed by numbers mean? Thanks for the Info, I've watched this video like 3 times for the get the brand names stick in my head
Seems to be a style/design number although I haven't seen this on all Brioni ties. Also, I used to write names of brands down on note cards that I would take with me into goodwill until I knew them by heart. That really helped make sure I could double check myself quickly.
Fendi! When I made this video I wasn't familiar with Fendi yet and I still haven't found any Fendi items :( But I've heard it is a very profitable brand in general. Thanks for the post!

I know it's late getting in touch with you. My husband was a tv news anchor who had a clothing account so he has a lot of Italian silk ties. Many worn perhaps half a dozen times. All are of great quality I can send you pictures and brand names
Thats a lot of ties to list and you better be ready to put that time in. If the ties are decent brands and in good condition then it would be very hard to lose money as you could probably be even money within your first 50 sales or so. Just dont underestimate the time involved to list these, especially if you are new to ebay. But I would think youll have great photos on your listings!

I used to sell on eBay way back in the day. I stopped selling in 2005, but starting to sell again. This video was extremely helpful. Thank you!
Fantastic!
Thank you for your great video. The only thing I would like to hear per brand is the price you can list, sells for.
Absolutely right about Goodwill marking stuff up.
Also any idea on Valentino and Christian Dior?
Some local thrift stores will consider lower price if you buy in bulk (ie 100 ties).

How do you know what to price a tie at?
I own a vintage collection of Hermès neckties over 30 years old. Where would you suggest I list them ? TY

Great question. I leave them rolled and have never had any complaints. I think its less likely to leave any creases that are hard to get out later.

No, I purchase the labels through ebay and the tracking is provided once scanned in at USPS.
