I really like the Eagles, but I have lost a Lot of respect for Don Henley. He has 60 people (employees..) in a room who search the Internet daily looking to take down Artists who play Eagles music. Imagine! I enjoyed this Video, and agree with you... Thanks

Our tiny unmonetised channel was subject to this type of action because of two songs we performed on free livestreams we did for friends and family during the 2020 lockdowns. We’re baffled. Since money is clearly so important to him, he could have just claimed copyright and earned money out of the songs if our channel ever became monetised. He was once a much admired artist, but it’s evident what he’s become.

it was me that had 2 copyright strikes on TikTok, and 1 on TH-cam! luckily I saw them as they came in, and I immediately deleted ALL my eagles covers! I had 23.5 million views on the first solo from hotel, 2 million likes and over 1/2 million comments. so many of those comments were from young people who had never heard of the Eagles, but then sought them out, streamed their songs and bought their Merch. so what on earth did he have to gain by that? in 50 years, they will be forgotten about!

Now that it has been revealed that Henley lip synchs during his concerts someone should file a class action lawsuit to refund the ridiculous ticket prices and then add in damages for fraud and see how he likes it.

I remember going to see Ringo Starr in 1989. The guitar player was Joe Walsh and the bass player was Timothy B Schmit. During a break Joe came out on stage alone started playing Desperado on the piano. A couple days later Don was in the news saying he didn't write those songs he shouldn't be allowed to sing them. Of course, Joe kept on singing them. As we have all known down here in Texas, Don is a douchebag.

The story here appears to be that Henley tried to buy the documents from these guys, and even seems to have negotiated a price and paid for some of the documents. When it came to the HC lyrics and some of the other more desirable pieces, the guys wanted more and Henley appears to have said no. Then Henley and his attorneys tried to ge the guy thrown in jail for a decade so he could get the state to take the docs by force and give them to him. This is waaaayyyyyy beyond a lawsuit.

Saw them in 2013 at a huge outdoor event with over 50,000 people at the Newfoundland Salmon festival. First 15 minutes they were on stage (the crowd going crazy), Don Henley very seriously looks up at the wave of people in awe, and says quote " Please stop recording us with your phones and iPads, you are taking unwanted pictures of myself and the band while we are performing, thank you." I immediately looked at Glenn Fry who smiled awkwardly and looked down as if to say he wasn't prepared for Henley's words to the people.. A crowd of over 50,000 basically shut down, and the iPads and phones were now being revaluated throughout the crowd, you could see it!. In that second I went from Huge fan to hating the Henley dictatorship.. it totally ruined how I saw them everyday since..

Don Henley is the most difficult person you can ever deal with. I once knew one of his daughters in Austin and she was a wonderful girl. But I am glad, I didn't marry her and its not because of her. I had always heard about Don's extended litigious personality, and she was so fine. But Don is a very vengeful guy. His daughter is not. I have seen Don Felder in concert 3 times in the last 7 years
He is energetic, talented, engaging and clearly joyful
He looks better now then when he was in Eagles
    He has aged very well
    And is such an optimist
Early on Bernie, Randy and Felder were given songs and writing credits on their earlier albums but Don and Glen shut out their songs later in the Eagles history
(Watch History of the Eagles) to see Felder’s calm take on the “Glen Frey will make you miserable” saga to all bandmates
Felder loves playing the music he was a big part of or the other earlier Eagles tunes that he played on for years on tour
HE always has a top notch band, pulls off the performances very well and tells stories
He doesn’t have Henley’s voice but neither does Henley now
He does have harmonizers who sing some of the songs like Randy’s high “take it to the limit”
He is also an incredibly talented musician - far above even Joe Walsh
Don and Glen hate that their most popular song was driven by Don Felder (and Joe Walsh’s guitar duel)
NOt to mention One of these Nights or Victim of Love - Felder’s music
    Don and Glen
    Bitterness will take you down
    Don Felder is pure class

Sheesh. Ol' Donny's personal reputation has basically been shite since he was busted as a middle aged coot pushing sex and drugs on young teenage girls. Later it became fairly well known that he was likely the biggest arse in all of Rock and Rolldom. Firing Don Felder didn't help his street cred any, and keeping the Godly Joe Walsh to sideman status for 40 years is so far beyond a dick move it's actually even embarrassing for the fans.

From what I've learned, the lawsuit was "abruptly dropped" because Henley himself inadvertently revealed he'd lied about the encounter he'd had back in the early 80s with that 15-year-old girl that he was doing coke with, who OD'd and an ambulance was called. Henley claimed at the time he hadn't had sex with her but this current (now dropped) lawsuit dredged up more information about the real situation back then. Either Henley perjured himself or was threatened to back off or both.
Add in the current scandal involving the lip synching of "Desperado" in live shows, the poor treatment he displayed towards Felder - the real author of the classic Hotel California riff - and Henley will be spending eternity wishing he had learned the Golden Rule during this lifetime.

I listened to a podcast a few years back, where the alleged 16 year old who was found at Henley's house, was spilling the "T" on him and how she came to be there, and it was quite scandalous. She said she planned to tell all, and then, just vanished. I haven't heard anyone mention the incident since, until now. I've often wondered what ever happened with that. Was she lying? Hey Don, I am pretty sure you will see this so hear me out. We all go down the wrong path at some point in our lives. As an older man who has made many mistakes and tried desperately to redeem himself, I humbly make these suggestions:
    1. Don't worry about Eagles' place in music history. It is secure. Don't worry about any financial harm resulting from others' love of the music and trying to emulate it, perform it, or own a piece of it. In the big picture, it does you no appreciable harm.
    2. You are very, very rich. You are in a position to use your wealth, fame, and influence to be a significant force for good. I believe you live near the southwestern border. Why not get active in doing something to help the children who have been held in cages, abandoned, and severely traumatized. How about getting involved in the water crisis in the waterway adjacent areas around Tijuana and San Diego.
    3. There are many other good causes and I have no reason to expect you to let me point you in any specific direction. I just want you to realize that you can still be remembered as a hero and not a petty, narcissistic person. Be as good a man as you have been a musician. Drake

    • @lesliebeacom4567
      @lesliebeacom4567 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

The Eagles place in music history is only secure if Henley allows others to play it or even hear it!!! I have a number of Eagles records (yes, the vinyl ones). I wonder if Don would sue me if I tried to sell them on eBay? Probably. So I'll leave them for one of my relatives to have when I die, even tho the kids don't know who the Eagles are, and probably never will, thanks to Henley.

In 1990, I was working at HK Management. It was right when Irving Azoff started Giant Records, so he had handed Don’s (& Glenn’s & Timothy’s) management off to his good friend & business partner (in a separate venture) Howard Kaufman. A manager named Craig Fruin was handling Don, specifically.
I was warned on my first day to NEVER keep Don waiting. Whatever Don wanted, Don got IMMEDIATELY! He was easy to anger & went for blood if you riled him in any way. EVERYONE in that office feared Don’s wrath.
One day, Craig had a meeting with Don at Don’s house in Malibu. At some point after Craig had left the office on his way to Malibu, Don called, demanding to talk to Craig. 😱
This being 1990, cell phone technology wasn’t what it is today. Craig DID have one of those big, bulky car phones, but coverage was sketchy & Craig was driving through Malibu Canyon, where there was zero reception. I tried to patch the call through three times, but there simply was no signal in the canyon. Craig was unreachable, & Don was on hold. 😱😱😱
So I went back to Don & (in my most apologetic, begging for mercy tone) explained that Craig was ON HIS WAY & IN THE CANYON & I just couldn’t get the call to go through because there was NO SIGNAL. I said I would continue to try & would call Don right back, patch Craig through to him the second I got the call to go through, coz I didn’t want to keep Don on hold.
I will never forget the words Don Henley said to me next, nor the utter contempt in his voice.
He said, “That’s not good enough, sweetie.” And he hung up.
I was fired the next morning.
(Timothy B Schmidt was a sweetheart & the Beastie Boys had the BEST manners!) ✌🏼

Don Henley and Glenn Frey may have started the Eagles, but Randy Meisner, Birnie Leadon and later Don Felder, the creator of the most iconic Eagles riff for Hotel California, all were such a huge part of their initial success. Clearly success went to Glen and Don’s head. In fact, other than hotel California, their next biggest hit was mainly written by Jackson Browne, which is take it easy. Seems like Don is getting advice from too many people, and when I say people I mean lawyers because win or lose lawyers still make money!!! thanks for sharing this insightful look at what appears to be the striking truth.

Thank you for another great story. I am 65 years old, I grew up buying every Eagles album, since the early 70tys. They were one of the most talented and gifted bands of all time IMO. they were at one time my favorite by far. However, as I grew older and listened to more and more instances of Don Henleys' obsessive greed and his obsessive drive to make sure he makes some kind of financial gain every time an Eagles song is played and how far he goes to get the 5 cents. I can't help but wonder how poor he really must be, Poor man, and to see how his personality has changed over the years in his obsession to see that no one else plays their music makes me wonder how miserable he must really be when most of us would kill to have a fraction of his wealth. I wonder if in his will he will ask for every penny he has to be buried or turned into cash so it can be cremated with him to make sure no one gets any of the money he's made by becoming such a greedy A-hole. P.S. I hope he doesn't sue you for defamation. I just came across "Roots" a few days ago and have become an immediate fan! Now, I've never met Don Henley. I've met and talked to Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh. Greatest people, funny, takes music seriously for obvious reasons but I can say here, I'm glad I never had the "pleasure" of meeting Henley because after hearing all of this I'd be puking at what I probably would have said and slobbering over the talent (he used to have) and putting him on a pedestal he no longer deserves. What a Dick. I mean Don...my bad. Not sure if I can write what you had to mute, but I was an Eagles fan like none other. I still have that clipping from the paper when he was arrested. I was barely a teenager. I believe it read 22 g's of snow and several roarer 714's were found a long with naked minors....(dig the cloak and dagger.) I haven't seen it for a long time I could have it mixed up, not fact checked! I love the pictures and autographs from Glenn and a 3E button that would get you into the after party that they dubbed "3rd encore" as you most likely know. Just to give you a tad about my humble ways and try to do the right thing, I posted a picture of that button on Facebook for some friends that wanted to check it out and I was offered some $ for it. I paused and said it wasn't for sale that I'd give it to him if he is still within communication after I've had it a little while longer as a conversation piece. Well, I went to this gentleman's site and found out he had a few kids in pictures with Jackson Browne holding an autographed copy of "Pretender." Lo and behold they were planning to see the Eagles in the near future. (This was years ago.) I immediately asked the man for his address and sent the button to them free, (of course it had always been priceless to me, Glenn handed that button to my brother and my bro gave it to me.) I received a picture of them holding the 3E button with big smiles, a bunch of next generation fans of great music and it was worth every penny :) Isn't that the way it should be? I wouldn't want to profit from something that was near and dear to my heart. Pass it on to fans that will do the same some day.
Hey, cronies, take that back to your boss and let him know he could use a slap and get back to reality. Wise up, get help for that senility There are real people out here with real love for music and SOME artists that make it. Without being pampered everyday of their lives.

What makes Hotel California so great is Felder and Walsh's lead guitar work.

There's always been debates about whether the Eagles borrowed too heavily from the song "We Used to Know" by Jethro Tull. But, Ian Anderson was always very gracious. He said the Eagles used the same chord progression that "We Used to Know" used; but, he said the key was different and the context was different and so it qualifies as a new song.
Overall Anderson seems kind of flattered that the Eagles likely borrowed a concept from him and then introduced some new tangents rebounding off the original source material.
I know when I listen to "We used to Know", I feel like I'm listening to Hotel California.

    Roots Music History,
Your videos are always informative & well spoken; Thanks for your work! As for Henley, like many other "old school" rockers and their managers, they don't realize that all of the banning, blocking, suing, etc. that they expend so much effort on merely impedes the proliferation of their music as the years and generations roll by. Oh I know, The Eagles' music isn't going anywhere anytime soon so it's really a non-issue with him, but that doesn't mean that he isn't a jackass for all of his obsessive foolishness. For God's sake, Don, go see a therapist already!! 🤷‍♂ 😉
Disclaimer: I'm old school, and I see a therapist....lol Sparks in Daytona

I feel a song coming on. Starts like this.
    On a dark L.A. evening,
    Stoned girl in my lair,
    Police come to the rescue,
    Said she shouldn't be there,
    e.t.c.

If any of you read this then I'm suing you for that, and then I'm suing Google for letting you log in, after which I'm suing your parents for conceiving you, ultimately suing God (or whatever) for making the universe in the first place. You've been warned.

Essentially, Don Henley sues people for admiring his music. Makes me sad because the Eagles and his solo career have been a great part of my historical play list. I like reaction channels and would love to see how people feel about the songs they performed, but I am angered by Mr. Henley's sue happy attitude.

I don't know about Henley, but John Fogarty had a damn good reason to sue his record company after the demise of Creedence.

There's no need for Henley to write an autobiography; he's already written Desperado and it says everything you need to know about him.

I grew up with the Eagles. Loved them. Saw them in concert recently (and now I'm hearing even that wasn't what it seemed...) But holy cow, what a hate filled, petty, bitter old man. He must be miserably unhappy to behave like this.

There were problems in the band that's for sure. The thing that soured my admiration for the Eagles was Glenn Frey coming out on the concert film trailer saying Don Felder was an asshole.

Henley has always been a spiteful controlling troll. He was the primary reason Randy Meisner left the band. He quickly forgot it was Randy who originally brought Henley and Frye together to form Eagles.
