I’ve mostly heard locally performed special versions of Hallelujah. One was performed by members of our police department. In any case, I’ve never heard a version that didn’t give me goosebumps.

Frey and Henley were alike in so many ways. They loved and hated each other at the same time. Both very talented, driven and greedy. It was inevitable that they tore the band apart. Thank goodness that they produced some great music in the time they were together.

I saw The Eagles on Tuesday 4th 2024 in Manchester England. Also been a big Eagles fan but I fully know about Don Henley’s reputation. But a really curious thing happened at the concert. Don Felder was on stage throughout their performance and featured in many of the solos and vocals. It was definitely him. But if you look up the cast members for the tour you will find no mention of him. Equally at the bands’ current calls at the end Don Felder did not reappear with the other members. Only Henley, Gill, Schmitt, Deacon Frey and Welsh. Also Felder did not appear on any of the publicity photos at the area. I have tried to research all this but cannot find and explanations. It was definitely Don Felder, he played brilliantly with his two knecked guitar on Hotel California and even stood right next to Joe when they did the famous long dual guitar solos. All this a real mystery. Can you help. 🙋‍♂️👏👏🇬🇧

Thank you for sharing this background on the song and the composer. "Hallelujah," is precious to me. I think the Wikipedia article says Leonard Cohen wrote 80 verses: I'm accepting your report that it's more like 120 verses. I imagined Cohen engrossed in the, "conversation," moved by the Spirit to express his walk with God. So, I developed my own, "cover," of eight verses that I sing to myself from time to time. The fifth verse goes like this: I know there is a God above And I've learned so much more from Love Than how to shoot at someone who outdrew you It's in the cry we hear at night It's from someone who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken, "Hallelujah...." The song is a gift - and it belongs to all of us now. I recognized that there are secular and spiritual aspects early on. I hadn't thought of it as Cohen conversing with God: I saw Cohen as being David. I could go on - but let me just thank you again for sharing this meditation on one of the most powerful songs ever written. And yes, the melody is a perfect match.

I grew up with the Eagles. Loved them. Saw them in concert recently (and now I'm hearing even that wasn't what it seemed...) But holy cow, what a hate filled, petty, bitter old man. He must be miserably unhappy to behave like this.

I have both of The Genus Aquila (I'm afraid to say the name anymore) Greatest Hits albums in vinyl and I'm now scared to play them in any volume for fear of having some SWAT team knock on my door with a lawyer in tow to take me away for playing their music.

My friends in the music community and I will not speak his name, in fear of summoning him. Too bad he wants their music to die a slow death. The younger gen won't listen to it if people aren't allowed to do covers and update their old songs.

Also her Dad mentioned about her saying something the degree of, gonna kill me a rockstar. I get its easy to say that about somebody. However her dad always said she always had that type demeanor, her character if you will. Plus it is still her father, estranged or not. She had the most to lose, already pissed they were out 9 million, plus the in coming divorce after, would have gotten nothing. What about the gun it was pretty long to the point where a guy his size would have had a tough time reaching the trigger, with regards to way they said he allegedly been holding it. Not to mention, the gun itself, only unidentifiable smudged fingerprints, as if it had been wiped down. Kurt did not seem like the type to keep things super neat and clean. He had owned the gun for enough time to where his finger prints or print should have been on there. Lastly regarding the gun, trajectory of where the shell ended up versus the chamber and how the gun came to a rest. The shell was on the wrong side of his body. The police chief at the time said he would defiantly reopen the case if he were chief today.

I really don't understand why Henley doesn't want his/Eagles music covered or played on channels like TH-cam. Is it because he's not making any money off it? Perhaps. But in reality, I personally believe that if more of his music was out there for the world to hear, he would make a shit-load of money off it! Think about it - more concert tickets sold, more songs downloaded, etc. All of it money in the bank. Look what happened when a fan filmed himself on a skateboard singing to "Dreams" by Stevie Nicks. It went back on the Billboard charts! Sold a lot of downloads and made a whole bunch of money for Stevie & Fleetwood Mac. That would never have happened if it didn't go viral. And when Phil Collins had "In the Air Tonight" reviewed by a number of channels, it shot to #1 all over again! Turned a whole generation on to Phil for the first time. Henley just doesn't get it. Perhaps he can explain it to me.

You introduce John Cale without the context that he was one of the original founders of The Velvet Underground, and that Cale's version used in Shrek really made it go mainstream 2. The church is St Ann's, not St. Mary's. It's in Brooklyn Heights. Tim Buckley "wasn't available" because HE DIED in 1975 when Jeff was only 9 years old so they certainly weren't trying to get him to play and then settled for Jeff who, while playing music in California was not yet known as a "singer". Jeff made his public singing debut at a tribute concert sponsored by St Ann's on April 26, 1991. I was there and it was transcendent! He was accompanied by Gary Lucas. 3. Jeff then joined Lucas' band, Gods and Monsters, for a short spell and then began performing solo at various clubs and cafes in lower Manhattan, primarily with a residency at Sin-é on St Marks in the East Village where I saw him many times. (Sinead O'Connor also played there a few times) 4. And no, he did not leave America to join a monastery. He was in California at the Mt Baldy Zen Center. I think it's important to realize that while he never gave up his Judaism, he was a practicing Zen monk from 1994 to 1999 or so.
